What are unit exemptions? If you have completed one or more of the units in subjects directly related to the ABE syllabus with a recognised university or examination board, you may be entitled to claim unit exemptions for an additional fee. If your application is successful, you would not be required to sit the same unit again. Exemptions are available for learners studying the Level 4, 5 and 6 Diplomas. No exemptions are offered in Level 7. Exemptions cannot be given in any unit where a learner has previously sat an ABE exam. How to be assessed for unit exemptions To apply you will need to complete an exemption application form, which must be sent to us together with copies of your qualifications' certificates and transcripts. All transcripts and awards must be translated into English by a certified translator before being submitted to ABE for assessment. The qualifications must be of equal or higher standing than the relevant units in the ABE syllabus for exemptions to be considered. Once the exemption application has been assessed, an offer will be sent to you confirming the exemptions that are available, if any. You can send copies of your supporting qualifications by post or to exemptions@abeuk.com to confirm your possible exemptions before applying formally. study apply How to claim exemptions offered to you Once you have been made an offer, you must claim the exemptions within three months. If this is not done, the exemptions will have to be re-applied for. To accept the offer, the exemptions form must be completed and returned along with another copy of your qualification and the fees. Once received, the exemptions will be added to your records and a confirmation letter will be posted or ed to you. Study manuals ABE study manuals are textbooks specifically designed for the core ABE Business Management units; PDFs can be downloaded free from the Members Area. If there are no study manuals available for the specialist units in your programme, please refer to the reading list to find other recommended resources. Examinations The ABE exams are conducted twice a year, in June and December. The dates are published on the ABE website six months prior to the exam dates. Each exam is a three-hour written paper and is set and marked externally in accordance with Ofqual guidelines. Entering for exams A valid exam entry consists of a fully completed examination entry form accompanied by payment. The exam entry must be received by ABE no later than the exam entry deadline, which generally falls on the first Friday in April for the June exams and the first Friday in October for the December exams. You can also send your completed exam form by to examforms@abeuk.com providing payment is made by debit/credit card. ABE is committed to equality of opportunity, and will make reasonable adjustments to examination conditions (e.g. additional time, or an adapted paper) for learners with specific medical needs. 7

These centres are of the highest standard and comply with ABE requirements in terms of accommodation facilities and access. All centres are approved by the national Ministry of Education, British Council or a similar body. xam What happens if I can t meet the exam entry deadline? On the exam form, you should enter the name of the town/city where you wish to sit the examination. London learners should simply write London and an examination centre will be allocated it is not possible to choose a specific centre within London. ABE does allow a further week after the original closing date for late entries, but a penalty of 10 per unit will be charged for entries received within this week. No further entries will be accepted after the late entry period. However, the examination centre may not be finalised at this point. If you have access to a printer please take the printed slip with you to your exams. If you cannot access a printer please contact admissions@abeuk.com to get confirmation. Case study The case study is posted online in the Members Area approximately one month prior to the exams to all learners who have entered for the Business Plan for Enterprise Start Up in the Level 4 Diploma and International Business Case Study in the Level 6 Diploma. If your personal address is logged with your details in the Members Area we will also it to you. At the examination venue All learners attending the exams must bring their official photographic identification (passport, driving license, or national identity card) and the notification slip printed from the Members Area. Without these items you may not be permitted to sit the examinations. Please remember all the items required to write the exams, such as pens, pencils, calculators, rulers etc. Dictionaries and mobile phones are not allowed in any examinations. Please see the Examination Regulations on the website for further information. 8
Transfers You may transfer your exams from one session to the next by completing a transfer form available from the Members Area. Standard transfers The transfer form must be submitted to ABE together with the transfer fee by the closing date as stated on the form. Exam entries may only be transferred once. If the units are not sat in the next available exam session, all fees will be forfeit. Medical transfers If you were unable to attend the examinations due to medical reasons, you may transfer your exams by an extended transfer date which is usually three weeks after the exams. The specific date will be listed on the transfer form. The transfer format is as above but in addition to a fully completed form and fee, a medical certificate or doctor s note must be attached. Non attendance Examination fees are non-refundable. If you fail to turn up for an exam and are not eligible to transfer, you will forfeit the examination fee for that unit. You will not be marked or graded for the units that you do not attend and they will not appear on your result slip. Results and certificates Examination results are released approximately 10 weeks after the exam has taken place. Assignment results are released approximately two months after they have been submitted to ABE. Results are posted in the Members Area of the website. Any award certificate that is due to the learner will be sent after the appeals close following the release of results. If you owe ABE any fees, the results and certificates will not be released until the outstanding amount has been cleared. The outstanding amount must be cleared within six months, or you may be required to pay an additional fee to release your results. Transcripts The transcript is a full list of every unit you have sat with ABE and your most recent result in each unit. It also gives the date when each stage of the course has been completed. To request a transcript you will need to complete the Transcript Request Form, which you can download from the Members Area, and send it to us with the payment. Transcript requests take five to ten working days to be processed. Qualification certificates Qualification certificates are awarded at the completion of each level of the ABE programmes. You will receive two documents. In addition to a qualification certification, you will receive a Credit Certificate which lists the units you have passed and their credit value. You will be issued with an award after you complete the following: Level 4 Diploma 4 units Level 5 Diploma 8 units Level 6 Diploma 5 units Level 7 Diploma 5 units 9
Certificate of Unit Achievement The Certificate of Unit Achievement can be ordered by learners who have successfully completed one or more ABE unit/s but have yet to achieve their full ABE qualification. It lists the title of the unit which has been completed successfully and indicates its credit value and level of achievement. It does not however state the title of the overall qualification which you are working towards. The Certificate serves as evidence of achievement so far and can demonstrate knowledge in specific subject areas. It can be particularly useful if you have to take a break from your studies or you have commitments which mean you cannot achieve your full ABE qualification for an extended period. The service is available to anyone who has successfully passed a unit from our current portfolio. You can find the order form from the Certificates tab in the Members Area. Appeals and Enquiries About Results ABE is committed to ensuring that learners receive a fair mark for the assessments they sit/submit. All ABE markers have to attend a training (standardisation) meeting for every assessment session they are involved in. After that, a range of quality checks are carried out to ensure that results accurately reflects learners performance. That said, ABE supports the right of individuals to enquire about their results and to support this we offer a range of options. Enquiries About Results Those who have failed a unit may make an Enquiry About Results (EARs). There are two different enquiries that can be made, but because of the time it takes to produce certificates, only one service can be requested for any result, so it is important to consider which service is most appropriate: 1. Clerical check 2. Re-mark and report on performance (which also includes the clerical check) NOTE: If there is a chance that you may wish to appeal, then you need to pursue the second option. ABE must receive your request and the appropriate payment within 10 working days of the results being published. 1. Clerical Check this service provides a check of all clerical procedures that lead to the issue of a result, namely that: All parts of the assessment have been marked Marks have been totalled correctly Marks have been recorded accurately on the ABE database Any adjustments have been applied The application of any agreed special consideration has been made Cost: 50 per subject Timescale: learners should receive the outcome of the clerical check within 10 working days of ABE processing payment for the service 10
1. Re-mark and Report on Performance in addition to the clerical check, this service provides a written response from the Subject Examiner on the learner s performance in the paper. Once the clerical check has been carried out, the Subject Examiner (or a suitable deputy) will remark the paper and provide a report on the learner s performance in relation to the assessment criteria that were used to mark the paper. If a learner wishes to identify areas of strength and weakness in order to prepare effectively for re-taking the assessment, then this service may be of particular value to them. However, learners should note that the re-mark may result in the original grade being confirmed, raised or lowered. Where a grade is changed, the new grade will replace the original grade, whether it is higher or lower. Cost: 100 per subject Timescale: learners should receive the outcome of the Re-mark and Report on Performance within 20 working days of ABE processing payment for the service Procedure An Enquiry about Results can be made by completing the correct form, which can be downloaded from the Members Area and sending it to ABE with appropriate payment to admissions@abeuk.com or by post to: ABE, Admission Department, 5th Floor, CI Tower, St Georges Square, High St, New Malden, Surrey, KT3 4TE NOTE: Forms will not be accepted unless accompanied by the correct payment and will not be actioned until payment has cleared. ABE must receive your request and the appropriate payment within 10 working days of the results being published. Please note that your payment must be made by debit/credit card. Fees are non-refundable but, should your enquiry identify a procedural error, the fee paid will be refunded, usually to your ABE account. Progressing to an Appeal If a learner is dissatisfied with the outcome of the Re-mark and Report on Performance (which includes the clerical check), they may invoke an Appeal, but only on the grounds of a procedural error, not academic judgement. An appeal application must be received within 10 working days of the receipt of your Re-mark and Report on performance. The Appeals form can be downloaded from the Members Area. The appeals policy can only be brought into effect when there are eligible grounds for doing so. It may not be used simply because a learner or their accredited centre is dissatisfied with the outcome of an assessment or any other decision concerning the academic position or progress. Ordinarily, appeals will only be accepted from the learner themselves. However, in exceptional circumstances, an appeal may be submitted by a third party on a learner s behalf, but only if accompanied by written authorisation from the learner. An appeal can only be invoked once a Re-mark and Report on performance (including the Clerical check) have been carried out. This being the case, learners are unlikely to receive their certification within the usual time period, as their result will not be confirmed until the outcome of the Appeal is known. 11
When a learner submits an appeal, the following steps take place: ABE will check that the Clerical check, Re-mark and Report on performance have been done and sent to the learner ABE will send all the relevant documents to the Appeals Committee, which will carry out an independent review of all the quality assurance processes that were associated with the assessment and how it was marked and moderated leading to the result the learner received The Appeals Committee will make a decision to uphold or reject the appeal and what action, if any, is required If the appeal is upheld because of a procedural error, the learner will have their fee refunded, and their grade may or may not be amended depending on the outcome of the review. The decision of the Appeals Committee will be communicated to the learner along with refunded fees if appropriate. Cost: 150 per subject Timescale: learners should receive the outcome of the Appeal within 20 working days of ABE processing payment for the appeal, provided all the preceding processes have been completed. There will be no opportunity for the learner to appeal against the final decision of the Appeals Committee. Procedure The appeal will be initiated by completing the correct form, which can be downloaded from the Members Area and sending it to ABE with appropriate payment plus any related documentation by to admissions@abeuk.com or by post to: ABE, Admission Department, 5Th Floor, CI Tower, St Georges Square, High St, New Malden, Surrey, KT3 4TE NOTE: Appeals will not be accepted unless accompanied by the correct payment and supporting documentation, and will not be actioned until payment has cleared. ABE must receive your Appeal and the appropriate payment within 10 working days of you receiving your Re-mark and Report on Performance. Please note that your payment must be made by debit/credit card. Fees are non-refundable, but should your appeal be upheld, the fee paid will be refunded, usually to your ABE account. Commitment to upholding quality Should the outcome of an enquiry or appeal bring into question the accuracy of results for other learners taking the same assessment, ABE will take steps to ensure that all learners have their interests protected. This review may include the re-marking of scripts and/or amending the original grades awarded as necessary /2016
