2 BROAD STRATEGIC GOALS Teaching and Faith and Mission St Patrick's Primary School will promote and develop an authentic Catholic community working towards Christ's mission in our world. Relationships and Community St Patrick's Primary School will promote and enhance positive relationships within and beyond the school community Teaching and Learning St Patrick's Primary School will promote and enhance quality teaching and learning. Organisation and Community St Patrick's Primary Schoolwill provide a quality, attractive and functional teaching and learning enviroment and be committed to processes of reflection, review and ongoing renewal.

3 GOALS Values of Jesus as expressed through his life and messages in the gospels will be evident in our students' relationships with themselves, each other, the world community and the environment. We will have teachers who will be well informed and effective in teh classroom teaching of religion especially in theology and scripture. Our Staff will have access to high quality resources and authentic faith experiences. The staff will be witness to a life of faith and modelling prayer and celebrating ritual with the students Our students will experience a range of Catholic practices that allows them to be in the presence of God and to personally identify with this Catholic Community. Staff and students will have a strong knowledge, understanding and experience of the school's Catholic identity and role within the mission of the Church Our learning environments will be inclusive of all students in teh school. We will use inclusive, comprehensive and quality curriculum, assessment and reporting processes at the school Information, communication and learning technologies will be integrated in learning and teaching processes. Staff will be well informed of contemporary teaching and learning practices and will utilise these, where appropriate, in the school learning environment. We will have students who value literacy and numeracy learning and who will be exhibiting these skills to their potential. We will value and actively promote and pursue the expression of "The Arts" including music and visual arts. Faith and Mission Teaching and Learning Relationships and Community Organisation and Administration Strong relationships that are underpinned by the religious and evangelising mission of the school will be forged with staff, parents, BCE Staff, St Patrick's College, Parish and cultural groups We will have whole of school systems to respond to student protection, personal and social development and behaviour support requirements that are congruent with BCE Policy and practices. We will partner with, and engage our parent community and the wider community in the wholistic development of students, school renewal and policy development. Classroom environments will foster a sense of belonging, self worth, competence, security and a sense of purpose. Supportive positive relationships will be fostered amongst students across all year levels and ages. Pastoral care programs that will support all students and their families will be implemented. Staff and parents will be involved in the coninuous renewal of the school plan and procedures. Resource arrangements and operational procedures will effectively support learning and teaching in the context of varying socio-economic, cultural and educational support needs. School Board and P & F Association will be active and involved in school processes and planning. Resource planning will be aligned with St Patrick's Primary School's strategic renewal plans inclusive of changing school demographios. Information and learning management systems will provide greater efficiency of student and staff engagement with learning and teaching and school operations.

We will have teachers who will be well informed and effective in the classroom teaching of religion especially in theology and scripture. -Support and strengthen school practices by integrating the Religious Life of the School Guidelines into current practices and identifying areas for growth and change. Continue to emphasize the importance of Scripture in guiding and nurturing the faith development of children and explore different ways of opening up The Word for the children. Our Staff will have access to high quality resources and authentic faith experiences. To engage the Early Years Teachers in the Early Years Curriculum ensuring the authentic integration of Religious Education. -Continue to provide opportunities to nurture the personal spiritual and faith development of staff so that they can continue to be confident witnesses and models of faith to the students. Explore opportunities for professional development opportunities relating to the teaching of particular RE topics / year levels. Provide opportunities for teachers to develop their own units of work rather than depending on the RE Modules. The staff will be witness to a life of faith and modelling prayer and celebrating ritual with the students Our students will experience a range of Catholic practices that allows them to be in the presence of God and to personally identify with this Catholic Community. -Continue to nurture the faith development of the children through Pastoral time, MJR and Values assemblies.

5 -Continue to value the Church as a special place for our school community and promote the type of behaviour and practices suitable for different types of prayer and worship. Staff and students will have a strong knowledge, understanding and experience of the school's Catholic identity and role within the mission of the Church Identify further opportunities for strengthening the schools relationship with other parts of the parish community, especially the Parish Faith Community and St Pat s College community

6 Teaching and Learning Our learning environments will be inclusive of all students in the school. Japanese cultural day is planned for the year 6 and 7 classes who are studying LOTE this year. To formalize gifted and talented policy and procedures to help inform future planning. Using current school data to identify students who may benefit from modified and extra support to assist learning. Collection of anecdotal notes by a range of school staff/personnel and recorded on file by STIE and GC. Identifying need for resources to support a range of learning styles and abilities particularly high interest for easy access to all readers To further source and resource the area of Gifted and Talented so as to better cater for students who are in need of further enrichment programs We will use inclusive, comprehensive and quality curriculum, assessment and reporting processes at the school To become aware of and engage in professional development opportunities related to the implementation of the first four Australian curriculum KLAs ie. History, English, Maths and Science. To review our personal development program based on the Living Life to the Full document. To train teachers and school officers and implement the program Aussie Optimism for Years 4-7. Aussie Optimism provides teachers, practitioners and parents with practical strategies and resources for developing children's social competence, self-management, and positive thinking in every-day life, during times of stress, and across transitions, like the move to high school. Information, communication and learning technologies will be integrated in learning and teaching processes. Continue to source additional online educational programs and educational software to support the curriculum Continue development of a bank of learning objects and lesson plans to support the curriculum

7 Continue to provide professional development opportunities for staff in the area of ICLT to assist them to integrate ICLT across a range of Key Learning Areas, including allocating time at a Professional development Day. Staff will be well informed of contemporary teaching and learning practices and will utilise these, where appropriate, in the school learning environment. To continue to investigate Contemporary Flexible learning environments to cater for the varying needs of learners and their learning especially through the implementation of new structures in years 3 and 4. To review our current Year 6 and 7 Learning environments as we move towards 5 classes in 2011 and 2012 Encourage Staff to be involved in professional development that is relevant to classroom practices To collaboratively plan, resource and implement learning in the Early Years. To nurture and foster good teaching and learning practices and outcomes for students in the classroom. To further enhance the students understanding of environmental issues with comparing and contrasting electricity and water usage data We will have students who value literacy and numeracy learning and who will be exhibiting these skills to their potential. Continue to source and then implement a reading scheme across all year levels to provide consistency. Children s learning will be enhanced by having more opportunities to enhance their reading skills. Complete the First Steps Writing program and to review practices developed through First Steps Reading To continue exploring effective strategies for monitoring and reporting of students literacy and numeracy development. Continue to develop the implementation of our school literacy scope and sequence and to use it to guide planning and teaching. Ensure that all areas are covered in each year level and when each aspect of literacy is taught to provide a flow on from one year level to the next. Focusing attention on numeracy teaching by shared practices with staff, parent information in newsletters, emphasizing available resources For Key Staff to be involved in the Leading Numeracy Learning Project Investigating the interest level of parents who may like to participate in a Support-A-Reader program To plan and implement a more consistent sequential scope and sequence for early literacy development.

8 Students learning will be enhanced by familiarity with the NAPLAN scheme. To develop strategies for utilizing data provided by various standardized tests to assist with planning designated teaching and learning practices. Purchase and promotion of good numeracy teaching resources. Continue to analyze and compare NAPLAN results to be used as diagnostic information in literacy and numeracy We will value and actively promote and pursue the expression of "The Arts" including music and visual arts. Review and assess the implementation of The Arts syllabus Stimulate interest and continuity in the drama strand of The Arts. Development and implementation of music program/project run in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Country Music Concert to raise funds to support ongoing development of AICM project. Continue to develop strategies to effectively manage private music specialists. FUTURE PRIORITIES For staff to be trained in First Steps Maths. For staff to experience further numeracy professional development including the Leading Numeracy Learning Project. To audit and analyze our current science curriculum program to ensure that our program is comprehensive. Review the current spelling teaching and learning practices in the school.

9 Relationships and Community Strong relationships that are underpinned by the religious and evangelising mission of the school will be forged with staff, parents, BCE Staff, St Patrick's College, Parish and cultural groups Begin to formally acknowledge the traditional owners at formal occasions. Broadening our cultural awareness activities to focus and celebrate other cultural groups represented in the school. Review staff social club membership contributions Gather ideas for staff social events Supportive positive relationships will be fostered amongst students across all year levels and ages. Classroom environments will foster a sense of belonging, self worth, competence, security and a sense of purpose. Pastoral care programs that will support all students and their families will be implemented. We will have whole of school systems to respond to student protection, personal and social development and behaviour support requirements that are congruent with BCE Policy and practices. To complete the immersion of the BCE Behaviour Support Documentation into our own policies and practices. To engage with and develop a Social & Emotional framework through KidsMatter. KidsMatter is a primary school mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiative developed in collaboration with the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and other agencies. To implement the Better Buddies Program with Year 7 and Prep To continue to develop the pastoral file kept by the Student Support Team We will partner with, and engage our parent community and the wider community in the wholistic development of students, school renewal and policy development. To continue to pursue opportunities for involving parents and the wider community in activities associated with the school Apply for Get Active visit in 2010 through the department of Sport and Recreation. Source and apply for grants promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices. Continue partnerships and programs with outside health and sport development personnel.

10 Organisation and Administration Staff and parents will be involved in the continuous renewal of the school plan and procedures. School Board and P & F Association will be active and involved in school processes and planning. Review internal review components Religious Identity and Culture Curriculum Learning & Teaching Evaluation and Forward Planning Cultural Diversity Budgeting and Finance Pursue the election of additional staff members as WHS representatives Continue to develop a Register of Workplace Substances for each area of the school To continue to investigate and develop the practices and procedures of our school working groups. Continue to monitor and respond to health and safety issues in the school Resource arrangements and operational procedures will effectively support learning and teaching in the context of varying socio-economic, cultural and educational support needs. To engage Year 6 & 7 proactively in our School Leadership Team Discussions to be had to name the Prep building with an appropriate Aboriginal name. Purchase resources with Active After-School Communities Program grant money from Australian Sports Commission. To implement and promote Nude Food Day once a term throughout Further develop and improve existing school sporting programs e.g swimming, interschool sport and after school activities. To continue to monitor with the Yr 7 environmental team to ensure they are still using correct bins. Ensure they are using a sensible amount of plastic bags i.e. putting two loads of rubbish in one bag and then re-using old bag. To continue to reinforce and promote strategies for environmental care e.g. Environmental Encouragement Awards.

11 Resource planning will be aligned with St Patrick's Primary School's strategic renewal plans inclusive of changing school demographics. To continue to make the school master plan come to reality through supporting the Architects with managing the building and planning. To oversee the implementation of their recommendations to the building and planning working group Continue to be responsive to the needs of funding other initiatives of the school plan Information and learning management systems will provide greater efficiency of student and staff engagement with learning and teaching and school operations. Finalize development of school ICLT Plan Consult with staff and manage the next scheduled rollover of hardware in 2010
