2 Background The United Nations Secretary-General s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI) recognizes fostering global citizenship as one of its three priorities and has generated momentum to promote Global Citizenship Education (GCED) around the globe. In 2015, Incheon Declaration was adopted by world leaders and this encouraged active participationin making visible changes around GCED. Following this, in September 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) specifically draws attention to the importance of fostering global citizenshipin Target 4.7, as a new vision of education for the next 15 years.for the past several years,promoting GCED has become a global education agenda and requires concerted efforts at all levels. As a group who has the greatest stake insdg 4.7, youth must assume a significant role to promote GCED across the globe. To carry this global agenda forward, capacity building of youth leaders is of foremost importance. In this context, the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU)and GEFI are organizing the 2nd youth-targetedtraining on GCED.Youth Leadership Workshop on GCED is a programme which invites active youth leaders around the world to participate in workshops on global issues and youth activities related to GCED. In 2015, as the 1 st youth workshop, Global Youth Advocacy Workshop on GCED hadsuccessfullypromoted to raise youth leaders awareness of GCED. The second Youth Leadership Workshop on GCEDtherefore aims to build the capacity of dynamic youth leaders from countries around the world to lead and advocate GCED. Participants will be selected on the basis of their previous experiences, present engagement and future commitment in educating and engaging with youth at the local and national levels. Working both individually and in groups, the young leaders will be asked to identify specific priority issues around GCED and youth leadership in achieving SDG 4.7. Objectives 1. To enable youth leadersin educationto gain a common understanding of GCED and its key priority areas to achieve SDG To provide a forum for participating youth leaders to elaborate leadership strategies suitable fortheimplementation of GCED innational and regional levels 3. To strengthen a network of youth leaders toadvance GCED Expected Outcomes 1. StrengthenGCED supporting networks of youth 2. Enhance participants leadership in the implementation of GCED 3. Reinforce participants appreciation and commitment to GCED 4. Solidify groundwork for the multiplying effects by youth on GCED Dates and Venue: 1. Dates: July

Cooperation Partners: Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP),, Geumjeong District of Busan Metropolitan City Participants: 50 youth leaders/activists actively engaged in GCEDfrom about 35 countries 1. 5 members from GEFI Youth Advocacy Group(YAG) participants from Africa, Asia, Arab States, Central and South America, and Europe 3. 5 participants from the Republic of Korea Applicants from developing countries will be given a priority. Workshop Costs:Round-trip international airfare to and from the Republic of Korea, accommodation and meals during the workshop will be covered by APCEIU. (Domestic travel expenses and visa fee is not covered by APCEIU.) Applicants with the sponsorship from affiliated institutions will be given a priority. Participant Selection Criteria Applicants should meet the following requirements: 1. Between 18 and 24 years of age 2. Minimum 2 years of active experience in youth activities 3. Knowledgeable in Global Citizenship Education related issues and priorities 4. Proven experiences of having influenced change at the local or national level 5. Proficiency in spoken and written English Selection Process 1. Submission: Application must be submitted viaonline. Application deadline is 25 May 2016(EST). 2. Notification: Notification of selection in the form of invitation letters will be sent by 3June Registration: Allselected participants must register by 8June 2016at the latest. Late registration cannot be accepted and will be considered as cancellation of participation.in case ofcancellation, the participation invitation will be forwarded to the next applicant on the waiting list. Detailed Workshop Content 1. Narrative Building: As an opening session, there will be keynote presentations on SDG 4 and GCED within the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 3

4 2. Plenary Presentations: These sessions will highlight GCED and leadership in context of Education Also, the role of youth as both learners and agents of change will be discussed by inspirational speakers who embody global citizenship.starting with an overview of the key issues surrounding GCED and leadership, participants will identify the entry points to the challenges that are most relevant in their local contexts. There will be a special session to introduce the Youth Advocacy Toolkit with interactive exercises. 3. Breakout Sessions: Critically reflecting upon the leadership in GCED and the tools previously discussed, participants will link the tools and challenges they have identified through these sessions. Participants will gather in groups based on their themes of interest and later by regions to develop leadership strategies for GCED relevant in their local contexts. Each group s final outcome will be shared at the Final Presentation. 4. Study Visits: Participants will make a study visit to one of the following places in Busan to enhance their understanding of GCED related themes as well as to have an opportunity to network with local youth. (Refer to Annex) 5. Reflection and Synthesis: These sessions are designed to recap learning points of the past sessions, allow participants to share reflections with fellow participants and facilitators, and link across different sessions/segments. It is recommended that participants keep reflective journals during the workshop. 6. Cultural Exchanges: The cultural night is an opportunity to build a sense of community among participants while sharing cultural elements and insights with each other. At the end of the workshop, participants will explore the city of Busan, visiting some of its famous landmarks.
