1 Job Description for: Curriculum Coordinator Responsible to: Curriculum Manager of ALS and SLDD* Humanities, Visual Arts and ICT* SfL and ESOL* Business and Accounting* Professional Studies* Health and Childcare* Engineering and Construction* Sport, Travel, Public Services, Hair & Beauty* Science, Maths and Animal Care* (*Delete as appropriate) POST SUMMARY: The post holder will report to the Curriculum Manager and make a considerable contribution to operational priorities of the College and to its aim to provide outstanding quality and responsiveness in teaching, learning and curriculum design and delivery. The post holder will have successful experience as a teacher, with wide knowledge and experience of planning, organising and delivering a diverse and creative curriculum. They will be able to confidently lead and coordinate the work of teams and individuals to meet challenging targets and to develop innovative new ways to meet changing needs and expectations of students and employers. They will have a good understanding of the use of ILT in education and training and they will be able to confidently and cost-effectively use resources and management information to drive forward success and achievement. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST: 1. Share and contribute to the College s vision, mission and values and communicate them successfully through effective management and positive behaviours. 2. Co-ordinate a curriculum to ensure effective delivery and the monitoring and achievement of agreed performance and recruitment targets. 3. Undertake a teaching timetable of no more that 648 hours annually, modelling innovative and effective approaches that lead to student success. 4. Line-manage staff in your area of responsibility as agreed with the relevant Curriculum Manager. 5. Work closely with the Curriculum Manager and Curriculum Director to plan and deliver an annual curriculum that meets the needs of students and employers and achieves funding targets. 6. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of qualification frameworks, subject specifications, assessment procedures and national initiatives.

Work closely with the Curriculum Manager to develop the curriculum within the Curriculum Area, including new programme proposals, awarding body approval, and developing the infrastructure for new course delivery. 8. Systematically improve the quality of learning activities, ensuring that they meet College quality standards and result in improving student success rates. 9. Implement learner voice processes and use learner feedback and involvement to make improvements. 10. Maintain strong links with external agencies, employers and others to maximise opportunities for students. 11. Ensure compliance with College requirements, policies, systems and procedures throughout your area of responsibility. 12. Actively promote and model good practice in equality and diversity, safeguarding and health and safety and carry out impact and risk assessments as necessary. 13. In accordance with College policies and procedures, contribute to an annual Selfassessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan for your Curriculum area that leads to significant progress in improving success rates and student experience. 14. Implement the College s Quality Assurance and Improvement policy and procedures and take a lead role in maintaining high expectations and challenging poor performance within the Curriculum Area. 15. Assist the Teaching and Learning Team as appropriate to ensure high standards, and agree and monitor support plans as necessary. 16. Ensure that good practice in learning strategies is maintained throughout your Curriculum Area and is linked to student review, motivation and support strategies 17. Increase the use of ILT in curriculum delivery and support and monitor developments. 18. Liaise with Awarding Organisations and External Verifiers and co-ordinate and monitor systems and procedures to meet their quality requirements for assessment and verification. 19. Undertake performance reviews of staff working within the area of responsibility. 20. Support an ethos of openness, initiative and professionalism, recognising the contribution of staff members individually and collectively 21. Manage a devolved budget as agreed by the Curriculum Director and ensure that resources human, physical, and financial are deployed efficiently and cost effectively. 22. In liaison with the Curriculum Manager, be involved in the recruitment and selection of staff and their deployment to ensure the effective delivery of the Curriculum Area programme.

In partnership with parents and employers where appropriate, ensure that effective processes are in place for the recruitment and for the ongoing management of students support, welfare, progress and behaviour. 24. Work positively and collaboratively with support teams within the college to ensure that students have the best opportunity to flourish and succeed. 25. Use management information and data to drive forward success and achievement and prepare reports and information for the Curriculum Manager as required. 26. Ensure that appropriate records are kept by staff and ensure that there is effective communication of key messages and information throughout the Curriculum Area 27. The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION: Qualifications: A degree or equivalent professional qualification, or be currently working towards this Teaching qualification (DTTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD) Knowledge and experience: Proven experience of leadership in an educational setting A background of successful teaching to a high standard Significant curriculum co-ordination experience Experience of curriculum planning and the deployment of staff and other resources Knowledge of funding streams and methodologies Experience of budget and resource management Experience of implementing quality improvement processes, leading to measureable improvements in student success Experience of liaising with Awarding Organisations and ensuring high standard in assessment and verification Experience in the recruitment and selection of teaching staff Skills and competencies: High level of applied literacy and numeracy Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Good IT skills (MS Office, Internet) Ability to use and interpret management information and

5 performance data Strong people management skills with the ability to motivate a team through periods of change Ability to successfully implement and deliver new curricula and initiatives Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan, monitor and evaluate within tight deadlines Ability to use ILT in curriculum delivery Other qualities: Demonstrated commitment to the College s vision, mission and values and models this through leadership behaviours Resilience and the ability to cope with pressure and difficult situations Well-organised and able to work autonomously Proven ability to motivate and inspire others Strong problem solving capabilities Effective presentation skills Willing to acquire new skills and undertake further training when necessary
