2 Why Learn Robotics? Today, many of our daily appliances and equipment use electronics, sensors and sophisticated computer technologies. Robotics is also fast becoming an integral part of the school curriculum with its ability to integrate across a broad range of topics, most notably the Technology, Science and Maths Key Learning Areas. Robotics encourages students to think creatively, analyse situations and apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to real world problems. Teamwork and co-operation are cornerstones of any robotics project. Students will learn it is acceptable to make mistakes, especially if it leads them to better solutions. Robotics is a fun and engaging way to teach fundamental technology, maths and science concepts. There are several key facets that the teaching of robotics promotes: Problem Analysis: Robotics encourages students to take a broad look at a situation and identify exactly what problem needs to be solved. Real World Design: With an application in mind and an idea of implementation, students can now begin the design process. This stage provides great rewards for students as they produce physical realisations of conceptual ideas. Programming: There are a variety of programming languages available for robotics, from graphical development environments to text based languages. Programming skills teach students to think logically and to consider multiple situations, as they learn a robot will do exactly as it is told, no more and no less.
3 Types of courses & Fees courses are 2 hours per session Level Type Descriptions Fees per person Beginner For children ages K2 (6+) to P1 (7 years) $300 for 8 lessons 1 old. No experience in Robotics necessary OR Focus on developing building skills and understand simple programming concepts. $45 if sign up on a lesson by lesson Using Lego WeDO, FunBots, RCX or NXT models basis 2 & 2A Beginner For children ages 8 above without robotics experience OR for those who have completed Level 1 module. Focus on building intermediate robotics models using Lego Mindstorms NXT and programming using NXT-G software. Build robots with different sensors such as Touch, Sound, Ultrasonic and Light Program robots to MOVE in different directions and respond to sensors inputs. Students will be assessed on their progress after completion of 8 lessons before progressing to Level 3. $300 for 8 lessons OR $45 if sign up for lesson by lesson basis. *Minimum of 2 students to start a class. Students will be offered alternative time slots if the timeslot requested is not available.
4 Level Type Descriptions Fees per 3/ 3A Intermediate to Advance Lego NXT For students who have completed and passed Level 2 module assessment For students who are not from Robotics Connection, they will be given a 45 minute assessment (FOC) to determine their suitability for this level. Focus on building more complicated robots such as Line follower, Robogator, Helicopter. Program robots to respond to multiple sensors using advance NXT Programming blocks such as SWITCH, LOOP with Control, SOUND, LIGHT, COLOUR and ULTRASONIC, Bluetooth & PSP Using parts and sensors from both Lego NXT Education and Home Edition person $350 for 8 lessons OR $50 if sign up and pay on lesson by lesson basis Advance 4 a.k.a Young Inventor category For students who have successfully completed Level 3 and be independent to design, build and program a robot. Student is required to design and create their own robot using Lego Mindstorms in at least 4 sessions. Student is required to submit a short report of their creation and give a short video presentation about their project. Students doing Level 4 are expected to able to program independently and able to attend class on a regular basis, at least once a week. $350 for 8 lessons
5 Level Type Descriptions Fees per person Beginner For children ages 11 above without $350 for 8 5 Lego EV3 Robotics experience OR those who lessons have completed Level 3 preferably Focus on basic building using EV3 robotics set and programming simple robotics movements using EV3 sensors such as Touch, Colour and IR OR $50 if sign up for lesson by lesson Using both Lego EV3 Education and Home Edition sets basis 6/ 6A Intermediate to Advance EV3 For students who have completed Level 5 and are keen to build and program advance EV3 models. Build EV3 models with multiple sensors and more complex mechanical designs. Programming using advance EV3 commands such as datawires, Myblocks, Bluetooth and Daisy Chain of multiple EV3 Advance Line following and Obstacle avoidance using PID Using the EV3 Content Edition functions to document building projects $350 for 8 lessons *Minimum of 2 students to start a class. Students will be offered alternative time slots if the timeslot requested is not available.
6 Level Type Descriptions Fees per person 7 Advance Programming For students who are keen to develop their programming skills. Preferably ages 12 and above. Programming tracks are: Moway World programming for moway Minirobots Scratch Programing for moway or Lego NXT RobotC programming for Lego NXT and EV3 Labview programming for Lego NXT and EV3 Raspberry-Pi programming using Python or Scratch $350 for 8 lessons for each module. *Minimum of 2 students to start a class. Students will be offered alternative time slots if the timeslot requested is not available SP Competition preparation At times, there may be robotics competition organised by other organisations or Robotics Connections. Students may take a break from the current level and focus on preparing for these competitions during their lesson time. Pre-requisite to participate in each competition applies. $350 to $400 package. Package usually includes coaching fees, loan of robotics sets and registration fees. Robotics Competitions

8 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 1. How are the classes conducted? Each student will build, program and test his/her robot in a 2-hour session. Students learn at their own pace guided by a coach. There are a maximum of 5 students per class and may be of different ages and levels. 2. What are the timings available and how do I register and book the lessons? There are 3 time slots per day; am to pm, 1.00pm to 3.00pm and 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Students can register for any time slots subjected to availability. If the student wishes to come regularly on a fixed time slot, we will reserve the slot for him/her. Otherwise, you have to call or to check for slots availability for a particular day. 3. What happens if the student is unable to attend the class that day? If the student is unable to come for class, parents should inform us early so that the slot can be given to others on wait list. There is no penalty for not attending. We will record only the days when he/she attends the class. 4. Can students bring the robots home? No. Students are NOT allowed to bring the robots home. The robotics sets we are using cost $600 to $800 per set. They can be purchased from us or any commercial department stores around the world. Students are allowed to take pictures or videos of the robot after the class. 5. Will there be a certificate given? Certificate of completion will be given only after a student completed at least 8 lessons and achieve the required competencies of each level. 6. How can robotics improve a student grades? Robotics is a subject that applies knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in practical terms. Students will have plenty of opportunities to apply what they have learnt in schools in a real world environment and thus improve their understanding of these subjects. Some worksheets will be given to students to guide them in understanding robot building, structure design and programming. Most importantly, we want students to have fun while learning, make new friends rather than being stress out by doing worksheets!
