3 Consortium Purpose To develop relationships among programs To increase coordination and collaboration of TA to Title V agencies To collaborate on the design and delivery of leadership training that addresses core areas identified in MCHB s National Plan for Maternal and Child Health Training : Interdisciplinary practice Culturally competent practice Family-centered practice

4 Objectives for Leadership Trainees Develop leadership capacity in Maternal and Child Health Participate in interdisciplinary learning experiences with other trainees and faculty Gain a shared understanding of Maternal and Child Health, anchored in a public health, population-based perspective

7 Guiding Principles of Cultural Competence Training Involves collaboration with community, state and federal agencies; Requires interdisciplinary collaboration among students and faculty; Addresses cultural competence from organization and institutional perspectives; and Frames cultural competence as an essential leadership skill in the field of maternal and child health.

8 Definition of Cultural Competence UNC MCH Consortium adapted the following definition of Cultural Competence: Cultural Competence is a set of congruent behaviors, attitudes, and policies that come together in a system, agency or those professions to work effectively in crosscultural situations through a dynamic, outgoing, developmental process.

9 Objective of Cultural Competence Training To prepare MCH leaders who will foster change along the continuum of cultural competence in their future agencies and organizations.
