2 Permanent Full Time KS1 Leader of Learning and Class Teacher Salary: MPS/UPS plus TLR 2b (dependent on experience) Location: Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy, Crompton Road, Bilsthorpe, Notts, NG22 8PS (part of the Flying High Trust) Head of School: Ms Lisa Turland Roll: 230 (2-11 years) including 71 pupils (EYFS) We have an exciting opportunity to join our Senior Leadership Team as a Key Stage One Leader of Learning. This is a KS1 Co-ordinator role, which would be an ideal next step for a talented and successful teacher. You will be part of our friendly, one form entry school which is currently graded Good by OFSTED. The successful candidate will have high aspirations for all children, a strong vision for KS1 education with a creative and rigorous approach, understanding the requirements of the KS1 curriculum and the associated assessment expectations. Closing date: Friday 3 rd March at 5pm. Interviews to be held 15 th March Visits to the school are highly recommended, telephone for an appointment. 3 Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy Dear Colleague, Vacancy Key Stage One Teacher with TLR2b (Leader of Learning) Thank you for your interest in joining us at our wonderful school, Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy which is a part of the Flying High Trust Partnership. Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy is a school set in a rural location with a brilliant staff team and delightful children that want to succeed. The school joined the Flying High Trust in October 2015 when it became Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy. I also began my first headship when I joined the school in September The school is therefore at a very exciting stage in its development and we are keen to strengthen leadership capacity at the school. This opportunity provides the right candidate with a fantastic opportunity to develop a team and ensure that high standards are achieved for the pupils at the school. The successful candidate will work closely with the wider leadership team and also access support through the Academy Trust. 5 Job Description Post: Leader of Learning KS1 Lead TLR 2b To be performed in accordance with the Teachers Pay and Conditions Document Status of the Post This is a permanent, senior post and the post holder will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The post holder is accountable to the Head of School and Deputy Headteacher. Main Purpose of the post This Job Description is to be performed in accordance with the provision of the School Teacher s Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of teachers duties set out in that document. In addition to those professional responsibilities, which are common to all classroom teachers in the school, the post holder s key accountability will be for raising the standards of attainment, achievement, teaching and learning across KS1. The principal mechanism for discharging these duties will be through: Leading and managing KS1. Mentoring and coaching staff, supporting ITT students. Attending and contributing to weekly Senior Leadership Team meetings. Attending/presenting curriculum information and data at Governors meetings when relevant. Developing the KS1 curriculum, policies and practice. Ensuring effective transition, continuity and progression from KS1 into KS2. Modelling and demonstrating excellent teaching and learning. Monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning in KS1. Formative and summative assessment, including interpreting and using data to set effective targets in order to raise achievement in KS1. Providing training for all members of the school staff. Assisting other staff in understanding and developing the KS1 curriculum. Lead the KS1 team to ensure planning and teaching is of a consistently good or better standard. Ensure KS1 is dynamic, inspirational and effective at supporting the learning of all children. Liaise with the whole school SENCO. Leadership of phonics across the school. Identification of any members of staff not meeting the teacher standards and necessary support provided through the management and leadership of teaching support plans where required.

6 Professional Responsibilities The postholder will be required to exercise his/her professional skills, organisational expertise and judgement to carry out, in a collaborative manner, the professional duties set out below:- Making an impact on raising attainment and progress of pupils across the whole school Working with other relevant teachers in the school: Regularly review the effectiveness of teaching and assessment procedures and their impact on pupils progress, attainment and well-being, refining approaches where necessary responding to advice and feedback from colleagues. Lead evaluation strategies to contribute to overall school self-evaluation; Contribute to the writing of school self-evaluation and the School Improvement Plan; Plan and implement strategies where improvement needs are identified; Identify appropriate attainment and / or achievement targets for the area/s led; Ensure that relevant attainment / achievement targets are met; Monitor pupil standards and achievement against annual targets; Monitor planning, curriculum coverage and learning outcomes; Monitor standards of pupils behaviour and application to learning; Contribute to Pupil Progress Meetings, providing appropriate follow up support and intervention; Ensure that pupils experience and educational programme is personalised to the particular needs identified through a robust assessment system; Monitor progress of individuals and cohort and take appropriate actions; Liaise with the SENCO and Inclusion team in order to raise learning potential for children with SEN, EAL and those identified through the Pupil Premium Funding; Liaise with external support agencies, learning networks and advisors; Attend parents evenings and give specialist advice to parents in designated subject/ aspect areas; Liaise with the other members of the school improvement team to ensure curriculum continuity and progression; Be responsible and accountable for KS1 data, tracking progress and attainment data; Be responsible for SEN in KS1 Making an impact on raising standards in learning and teaching across the school, exercising professional skills and judgement. Working with other relevant teaching staff in the school: Support, guide and motivate teaching staff in raising the standards of teaching and learning; Be responsible for improving your own teaching through participating fully in training and development opportunities identified in consultation with Senior Leadership or as an outcome of your appraisal; Identify school improvement issues; Define and agree appropriate improvement targets for the school improvement plan; Establish CPD needs and opportunities for staff especially in the core curriculum areas and foundation subjects specifically managed; Evaluate the impact of CPD and improvement activities on the quality of teaching and learning;

7 Establish, introduce and update policies for the subjects or aspect managed and contribute to the writing of school policies in general; Recommend curriculum coverage and/or schemes of work appropriate to subject or aspect; Arrange and promote appropriate subject / aspect activities within the school to enrich the area; Evaluate the effectiveness of learning, of the curriculum and progress towards staff and pupils targets and use this to inform future priorities and targets for school improvement; To write an annual action plan to feed into the School Improvement Plan, and to monitor and evaluate it against the success criteria, using this to identify future priorities for development. Provide the Head of School, School Governors, FHT and OFSTED inspectors with relevant subject, curriculum, and pupil performance information and prepare/update any relevant information as required and for the wider school community in agreement with the Head of School. Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others Working with other relevant teaching staff in the school: Maintain personal expertise and share this with other teachers; Respond to and support the implementation of national and LA initiatives, ensuring staff are fully informed and up to date on changes Lead CPD meetings and INSET for the school Monitor the quality of teaching and learning, sharing judgements with Leadership, teachers, and support staff as appropriate; Plan and implement strategies to improve teaching where needs are identified; monitor teacher s planning and provide feedback to ensure it meets agreed criteria; Monitor teacher s classroom organisation and provide feedback to ensure it meets agreed criteria; Monitor teacher s marking and feedback to pupils and provide feedback to ensure it has purpose and impact on learning and follows school policy. Act as a role model of good classroom practice for other teachers, modelling effective strategies with them; Induct, support and monitor new staff; The post holder will share responsibility for the induction of new staff and will ensure appropriate provision and oversight of the activities of parents and others working in a voluntary capacity. Management responsibility To lead and manage KS1. To lead and manage the KS1 curriculum in line with the SIP priorities. To analyse and interpret relevant national, local and school data, research and inspection evidence to inform policies, practices, expectations, targets and teaching methods. To play a key role in school review and self-evaluation and identify target areas for the SIP.

8 To manage a learning and resources budget in line with guidelines, maintain accurate, yearly updates inventory of all resources, replacing and or updating missing resources in discussion with the Head of School. To maintain high standards of classroom organisation. To meet deadlines and hold others accountable to deadlines. To ensure that colleagues working with you are appropriately involved in supporting learning and understand the roles they are expected to fulfil. Deploy support staff effectively as appropriate. Provide support to the Headteacher in the management of all aspects of the day to day running of the school, ensuring that the aims, policies and values are upheld. Contribute to the management, monitoring and carrying out of supervision duties before, during and after the school day, alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team, and other staff. With the Senior Leadership team and staff, maintain a safe environment in line with the Health and Safety Policy and adhere to Health and Safety regulations. To maintain high standards of behaviour across the school and support staff to do so. To attend Senior Leadership Team meetings. To develop appropriate networks with other outside agencies, including cluster groups, network learning communities, business, industry, community groups and ITT providers. Show a commitment to work outside directed time when required. Other duties and responsibilities The post holder will be directly accountable to the Head of School and Governing Body and will be required to keep a full and accurate supportive evidence file which is a statutory requirement for completion of School self-evaluation. Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. Employees will be expected to comply with other duties not specified, of a similar level, that the Head of School may from time to time ask the post holder to perform. Experience and Skills A Degree and Qualified Teacher Status Evidence of Continuing Professional Development or further professional study A knowledge of teachers professional standards, duties and legal responsibilities Successful experience of teaching classes in KS1. Successful experience of teaching pupils with SEN and an understanding of the issues related to mixed achievement teaching. Experience of organising and delivering staff development which has impacted on whole school improvement Proven record of effective leadership including effective management of resources in relation to the delivery of the curriculum Experience and understanding of a range of assessment procedures eg summative, formative and statutory end of key stage assessments Effective and competent use of IT as a teaching and management tool Evidence of sharing in and contributing to the life of a school 3.
