2 Mainstreaming HPE Require the coming together of the Class Teacher, PE teacher and teachers of other disciplines. Mandatory nature of this discipline needs all students to participate in an innovative way through the strands detailed hereafter It will be mandatory for the school to upload a report of work accomplished across the strands of grade X and XII in the prescribed manner, for enabling students to sit for the Board exam.

4 COMPULSORY NATURE OF HPE To be bcompulsorily implemented for classes IX, X, XI and first half of the year for class XII This is an essential requirement for writing the Board examination. Unless schools undertake HPE seriously and are ready with records of all strands as well as Health and Activity Cards for all students, they will not be allowed to

5 REPORT CARD Need to fill in the HPE School Report for the ongoing session before registering their candidates in classes IX and XI. The report should reflect the activities undertaken under each strand separately for each class right from class IX to XII. The format of the HPE School Report is given in the Annexure No theory classes will be taken as a part of this format The class teacher shall be responsible for ensuring that each child participates in all strands guide and facilitate strand 3 and strand 4

6 STRAND 1 GAMES/SPORTS At least one of following: 1. Athletics or Swimming 2.Team Games 3.Individual Games 4.Adventure Sports Athletics Track and field events relay races; marathons, race walking, jumping for height Team Games Basketball, Kabaddi, Netball, Football, Karate/ Self Defence Net Games: Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball Cricket, Kho-Kho, Golf Individual Games Gymnastics, Skating, Judo, Wrestling, Boxing, Fencing, etc. Trekking; Nature Bathing (walking in natural surroundings wall/rock climbing; rappelling; camping; rafting; mountain biking; skiing;

13 Strand 2: HEALTH AND FITNESS YOGA Cures too much cortisol which in turn lowers the immune functions,metabolism, leading to rapid weight gain, osteoporosis, blood pressure muscle weakness, etc. insomnia, chronic fatigue depression, thyroid disorders, etc. Modern research accepts three aspects of yoga (Asanas, Pranayama and meditation) as one of the best methods for For managing the stress & raises the immunity levels of the body.

16 . Strand 3 SEWA Social Empowerment through Work Education and Action All students of classes IX to XII (for XII, only till end of the first semester/ term) will participate in SEWA program around the year.

There is an urgent need for today s children that they can connect with their peers, their elders, the community, the environment, etc.

The teachers need to create opportunities for students to engage with learning activities to develop core competencies such as: Social Awareness, Self Awareness and Empathy Self Management and Leadership Skills Creative and Critical Thinking Interpersonal Skills and Effective Communication Skills Responsible Decision-making through Problem Solving

28 Assessment for the Strands There will be no separate theory part as was the trend earlier Students will be assessed in each of the strands on the basis of evidence such as - direct observation, checklists, and/or use of video. In case of SEWA Projects Students Evidence can include journals, diaries, essays, laboratory reports, oral presentations and/or the use of video, etc.
