Grade Distribution: A B C D 60 F Final (comprehensive): During scheduled final exam period.. Introduction: The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to various methods of aerodynamic testing and methodology related to wind tunnels and the measurement of pressures, forces, moments, velocities, etc. In addition, the student will gain experience in analyzing and presenting data. The course will build upon the previous aerodynamic courses including the introduction to aerospace engineering, thermodynamics, compressible and incompressible aerodynamics. Course Structure: This course is comprised of two one-hour lecture lecture sessions and a 2 ½ hour lab session. Six experiments will be performed

2 during the semester, each requiring a formal report. The only other homework will be optional assignments for those who may want to boost their score. There will be a midterm and a final exam. Attendance: Classroom conduct: ABET Objectives: Attendance will be taken during each lab session. All lab sessions must be attended by the students. Professional conduct will be expected. This includes being there on time, turning off cell phone, removing hats, putting away newspapers, and most importantly not talking while the instructor is lecturing. No eating or drinking in class. When in the lab, you must abide by all laboratory rules. Outcome B Graduate will have the ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze data Outcome G Graduates will have the ability to communicate effectively Outcome K Graduates will have the ability to use techniques, skills and the modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice Learning Outcomes: Upon Successful completion of this course, the student will have acquired the following skills: o Demonstrate the ability to design and conduct experiments. o Demonstrate the ability to analyze and interpret data. o Be familiar with the design and operation of aerodynamic experiments. o Understand how wind tunnels can accurately simulate atmospheric conditions. o Understand how to reduce raw data into useful engineering parameters. o Understand how to draw scientific conclusions from experimental data. o Gain experience in technical report writing. o Gain experience in working in teams. o Gain experience in using laboratory equipment to take and record measurements. o Become familiar with calibrating and using pressure transducers and other devices used in flow measurement.

3 Teaching Philosophy: As your instructor, I will do everything possible to help you learn and understand the material, but you must do your part. You are ultimately responsible. Obtaining a A is no trivial matter, likewise, if you try hard and do the homework on time, an F is quite unlikely. Class Etiquette: My pet peeve is texting in class, I despise that.
