1 Summer Migrant Science Camps for Incoming 5th Grade Students Maximize student learning in Earth and Space Science in preparation for 5th Grade student success. Activities will be hands-on and integrate content strategies presented above and beyond initial classroom instruction to make science more comprehensible for the Migrant student. Earth and Space explorations will include activities and games aligned to the state standards during this 2 day student camp. 2 ISD Migrant STEM Camps 2016 Who says learning can t be fun? Come join other students from your school and learn how robotics can help expose you to STEM education and introduce you to the most in-demand, challenging, and rewarding careers available. The STEM Center of South Texas and your school district will be hosting a STEM Camps to provide you with first-hand knowledge and skills practiced in STEM fields. These skills involve focused activities that will introduce you to engineering, teamwork, and problem-solving. Migrant students will engage in STEM experiential learning activities that connect the STEM Career Clusters and state content standards to promote a skill set in 1) critical and creative thinking, 2) problem solving, 3) communication, and 4) and academic habits. From hands on explorations to rich discussions, a rich community of regional experts will engage students in authentic problem-solving scenarios. Groups of students will rotate across different sessions. Each session will offer a unique perspective to STEM education by subjecting students to real-world experiences in content areas and 21 st Century skills. 3 Region one esc gifted &talented Student Seminars to Enhance the Texas Performance Standards Project (TPSP) Julia Browning, Presenter Students participating in TPSP need the ability to conduct research effectively. In this workshop, GT students learn skillls. Comparisons between surface research and researching with depth and complexity will be examined, as well as essential components of an in-depth project. This should be a fun, cooperative seminar that will increase your students research skills. Students must be accompanied by a teacher. Teachers should be prepared to help facilitate the learning. 4 Social Studies STAAR Success Academies Who says History can t be fun? This engaging two-day academy, for Grade 8 students, will focus on critical social studies content from Colonization through Reconstruction Eras. Students will explore historical eras through engaging activities different from initial instruction. They will enhance their knowledge by becoming historians, critical thinkers and problem solvers. Information will be presented in new ways that target a variety of learning styles. Students will leave more motivated, excited and better prepared for STAAR! 5 ELA/R contributes to migrant student success by developing data content specific academies in reading and writing in order for students to be successful on STAAR and EOCs. Through small group and hands-on instruction, students acquire knowledge and skills through targeted instructional routines that students can use to achieve academic success. Some common areas of targeted student development include: 1. Structure and Elements of Fiction: The focus for students attending is on fiction format and literary elements that emerge as areas of need. 2. Structure and Elements of Expository Text: Students focus on organizational patterns and devices specific to expository text. 3. Expository Writing: This writing workshop emphasis is on the expository structure key elements students need in order to achieve mastery of the expository writing task.
