1 Faculty of Arts and Science Programme Manager GCSE English and Maths Job Description Reporting Relationships Responsible to: Responsible for: Head of Department Staff in the Curriculum Area Job Purpose To provide leadership to a range of course teams, with particular responsibility for GCSE English and GCSE mathematics courses including study programmes, part-time provision, work based learning courses and commercial provision. To deliver outstanding student success through operational leadership and management of a team of staff. To consistently deliver high quality and innovative teaching and learning, achievement and positive destination outcomes for all learners. To line manage a high performing team of staff and support the teams development through robust appraisal reviews including SMART target setting, performance management and staff development. To ensure that the curriculum offer meets the needs of students, employers and local stakeholders now and in the future. To maximise staff utilisation and resources through astute financial management in order to provide a distinctive high quality student experience. To embed an aspirational culture with students and staff across the curriculum area. Duties and Responsibilities Teaching, Learning and Training To undertake a teaching commitment as defined by the college, normally 12 hours per week during the academic terms.

2 To be responsible for the quality standard of teaching, learning and training within the course team. To develop effective assessment strategies to motivate learners and raise achievement. To carry out observations of teaching, learning and assessment through learning walks, formal, informal or developmental observations. To implement a robust lesson observation process in line with the college s policies and procedures to drive up the quality of teaching, learning, training and tutorial support. To systematically support new teachers/trainers and staff and ensure that all staff reach the college teaching, learning and training standard. To implement strategies to achieve excellence in teaching, learning and assessment leading to an outstanding learner experience. To ensure that all team members produce highly effective lesson plans, group profiles and schemes of work leading to good or better teaching, learning and assessment at all times. Leadership and Management Key Responsibilities and accountabilities Actively promote and market the college and present a positive image of the college and its activities both within and outside the college environment. To lead and motivate teams to achieve high performance standards. To provide an outstanding learning environment which enables students to succeed beyond their expectations. Use performance management to motivate, monitor and support staff ensuring they meet their own targets and objectives along with fostering effective team working and outcomes. To provide programmes of study that meet individual student needs and progression aims. Take full responsibility for monitoring all components of the study programme and apprenticeship frameworks, including English and mathematics, organisation and coordination of work experience, enterprise and employability skills. Ensure that the course teams achieve and maintains high levels of student recruitment, attendance, attainment, success and progression. Ensure that the teaching and assessing staff fully understand college, course and subject requirements and are aware of students progress. Ensure that each student has individually set SMART targets, that each student is fully aware of these and has an individual learning plan. Ensure that teaching staff and students have a clear understanding of targets and how well students are progressing against their minimum target grades. Establish a process by which good practice is shared within and across teams as appropriate. Ensure the optimum use of ILT and the VLE in the management of delivery of courses. Manage the quality of tutor support, including parent contact, in conjunction with the Head of Department and support staff. Ensure full compliance with college quality systems. Promote an understanding of Faculty and college policies, rules and regulations, and ensure that these are implemented in the Curriculum area.

3 Monitor the progress of courses, identify issues immediately, including appropriate and timely interventions. Implement and monitor SMART action plans, including Quality Improvement Plans. To hold regular team meetings and 1:1 meetings with all direct reports. Maintain accurate and up-to-date minutes of meetings and ensure that these are copied to the team and Faculty office. Coordinate the contribution of the team to course / subject reports, quality assurance processes, development and strategic planning processes. Ensure highly effective management of staff and teams leading to high levels of compliance and display of highly professional behaviours at all times. To undertake appraisal training and conduct timely appraisals of all full-time and part-time staff as required by the college and Assistant Principal/Head of Department, leading to a motivated and high performing team. Ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures including the maintenance of employee data in the itrent system. General Course Administration Produce course / subject information, including a student handbook and a course quality file, which are up to date and complies with college guidelines, and respond promptly to enquiries received about the course. In liaison with the Head of Department, take responsibility for student enrolment, including pre-course counselling, the selection and interview process, testing and induction. In conjunction with the Course Team, ensure that all Schemes of Work comply with the aims and objectives of the subject and Awarding Organisations and college requirements. Ensure student attendance records are accurate and withdrawals are notified promptly as per college Policy, in liaison with the Course Team. Produce statistics relating to the courses as requested by the Assistant Principal. Assist the Head of Department in drawing up timetables for the courses. College Data Use Faculty and college IS systems to ensure that accurate, complete and up to date data, relevant to the courses, is held on the corporate and departmental databases, and other information storage and retrieval systems. Data accuracy issues to be addressed promptly in collaboration with the IS team. Undertake regular data reviews with course teams and ensure effective presentation of data at target setting meetings. Assessment Ensure appropriate assessment, verification or moderation of student work, acting as an Internal Verifier and Lead Verifier.

4 Ensure that ILPs are in place to evidence student achievement and progress. As directed by the Head of Department, ensure that liaison is maintained with external Awarding Body Verifiers and the examinations office, regarding assessment results and examinations. In liaison with the Head of Department, ensure that all college examination and registration procedures are complied with, and maintain appropriate assessment records. Course Development Through the Quality Assurance procedure, identify Action Plans, Performance Indicators and targets for the courses and monitor progress towards these. Advise the Head of Department of the resources necessary for the subject and identify future resource needs. Produce an annual course quality self assessment report. Identify and implement the necessary curriculum development for the continued smooth running of the course / subject and the optimisation of funding in conjunction with the Head of Department. Implement, manage and report on learner voice activities for courses leading to an outstanding learner experience. Marketing Take responsibility for the marketing of the course(s) / subject, in conjunction with the Head of Department and Faculty Marketing Representative(s). Liaise with all appropriate external agencies to promote the courses and ensure that they meet the requirements of employers, departments, higher education institutions, etc. Provision of External Training for Students Ensure relevant trips are organised for students where these are appropriate to the courses. The above list is neither exhaustive nor exclusive, and the post holder will be expected to undertake any other duties within his / her capability and experience that may be relevant and necessary to fulfil the post effectively.

Data Protection Computer information should only be accessed if this has been authorised and is necessary as part of the post holder s work. Unauthorised action being taken, in accordance with the College s disciplinary procedure, may lead to dismissal. The post holder s attention is also drawn to the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Computer Misuse Act Safeguarding The College is committed to the safeguarding of all its students, staff and visitors and provides a safe physical environment. The College ensures safeguarding legislation and guidance are adhered to and considered when developing and revising policies and procedures. The College has policies and procedures in place to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues as well as recording and monitoring processes. 6 Havering College of Further and Higher Education Faculty of Arts and Science Programme Manager GCSE English and Maths Person Specification Requirements Essential Educational attainment A recognised Level 4 teaching qualification such as Certificate in Education, PGCE or equivalent Relevant qualification at Level 3 or above Level 5 qualification in English or maths Ability to prioritise objectives and plan work within a complex educational environment and manage an area in delivering high quality performance, including the ability to delegate effectively Advanced level IT skills Highly developed interpersonal skills, and particular ability to liaise effectively with a wide variety of audiences both within and outside the college Ability to express ideas succinctly and clearly, both verbally and in written work Understanding of the need for, and commitment to an excellent pastoral care system to support Knowledge, Skills and Aptitudes students in their academic activities required Understanding of college processes including enrolment, withdrawals, exam entries, etc. Ability to drive continuous improvement for self and others High level commitment to quality assurance Excellent administrative skills Ability to think creatively and facilitate innovation and problem solve Excellent ability to lead students to successful achievement and progression Ability to motivate and inspire staff and to develop and maximise their potential Experience required Ideally, at least three years recent relevant teaching experience Proven experience in managing, motivating and building successful teams Proven experience of working with high needs learners Experience of managing change, engaging others positively in the process with a focus on impact and successful outcomes for students Experience of management, showing a drive for results and continuous improvement ethos Experience in course administration Evidence of curriculum development and innovation
