1 K4 SPANISH COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students begin their introduction to Spanish with fun songs and games that reinforce basic conversational dialogue and common vocabulary in order to create a strong foundation for learning a foreign language. Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the Spanish-speaking world is the primary goal and motivation for learning Spanish, so students learn Bible verses, stories, and other biblical concepts throughout the course. Interactive games, fun songs, role-playing activities, reading and listening comprehension, and multimedia presentations allow students the opportunity to practice in a variety of ways and experience success so they have a positive desire to continue their study of the Spanish language. SUPPLEMENTAL: Pasaporte al español DVDs Powerpoint presentations Bilingual books Games Board games (small groups) Activity sheets Interactive White Board GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Goal 1: Goal 2: Goal 3: To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about greeting others in Spanish The student will greet others in Spanish. The student will greet others by asking questions formally and informally. The student will express how he feels using the verb estar. The student will address someone by title and last name. The student will differentiate between AM and PM greetings. The student will tell essential information about himself and others. To increase basic knowledge and understanding of the Spanish alphabet The student will distinguish letters that are only in the Spanish alphabet. The student will utilize the sounds of the Spanish alphabet in initial, medial, and final positions. The student will give the alternate sounds of letters, if applicable. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about school The student will follow simple classroom commands. The student will give adjectives to describe classroom objects. The student will identify basic school supplies.

To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about colors The student will identify 11 colors in Spanish (red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, black, white, and gray). The student will express his favorite color orally. The student will describe clothing by its colors. The student will identify objects by its colors. The student will locate objects in the room as described by its colors. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about numbers 5.1 The student will identify and recite numbers within a range of The student will write numerals 1-10 when dictated in Spanish. 5.3 The student will give his age using a number and the verb tener. 5.4 The student will use numbers to tell time on a clock. Goal 6: Goal 7: Goal 8: To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about animals The student will identify common pets. The student will identify farm animals. The student will identify zoo animals. The student will classify animals according to their habitat. The student will name and describe his favorite animals. The student will name and describe his pets at home. The student will express his likes and dislikes. The student will describe animals by color and sound. The student will identify animals by their sound. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about food and drink The student will differentiate between foods commonly eaten during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The student will learn about eating customs of Spanish-speaking countries. The student will discuss how our country enjoys many foods indigenous to Spanish-speaking countries. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about God, the Bible, Church, and sharing the Gospel to Spanish-speaking people The student will learn basic vocabulary concerning people, places, and objects found in a church. The student will sing religious hymns and choruses. The student will listen to phrases that are commonly used in prayer.

The student will identify relationships between his immediate family. The student will participate in a variety of games using his knowledge of family members. The student will change the endings of family member words to indicate gender. The student will identify family members from a visual aid. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about transportation 10.1 The student will identify common vehicles The student will categorize vehicles by land, sea, and air The student will match vocabulary words with their coordinating picture The student will describe vehicles using colors and other adjectives The student will understand simple sentences using the irregular verb ir. The student will follow TPR commands to demonstrate knowledge of main body parts. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about sports and leisure activities The student will describe with vocabulary associated with sports and leisure activities. The student will describe various physical activities related to healthful living. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about the weather The student will ask someone about current weather conditions. The student will state current weather conditions. The student will classify types of weather as they relate to the four seasons. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about the seasons and special celebrations throughout the year The student will name the four seasons. The student will classify the months according to their season. The student will discover which Hispanic countries do not have traditional seasons.

The student will use vocabulary in reference to American holiday celebrations. To increase basic knowledge and vocabulary about geography and culture as it relates to the Spanish-speaking world The student will describe different Hispanic traditions and celebrations. The student will describe Hispanic foods. The student will describe certain cultures must utilize other forms of transportation due to their living conditions. The student will describe different Spanish-speaking countries that do not have traditional seasons. The student will describe with special Hispanic holidays and celebrations. The student will use vocabulary in reference to American holiday celebrations. The student will recognize the location of at least one Spanish-speaking country located in South America. The student will recognize the location of at least one Spanish-speaking country located in Central America. The student will identify the flags of at least two Spanish-speaking countries. Goal 16: To increase basic knowledge and reinforce concepts of Spanish grammar and its structure 16.1 The student will use possessive adjectives when describing objects or relationships between people The student will use descriptive words with given nouns The student will explain simple sentences using current knowledge of the language The student will explain what new words mean by using the context of what they know The student will identify masculine and feminine nouns by its definite or indefinite article The student will make singular nouns plural The student will use the preposition de to indicate possession and relationship The student will list singular subject pronouns The student will use regular verbs with singular subject pronouns The student will use irregular verbs with singular subject pronouns The student will use tener when speaking of possession and age The student will ask yes/no questions using tener.
