There are several brands available; prices range from about $30 to about as much as you want to spend. At the minimum, your machine should be able to solve for a present value, future value, annuity payment, interest rate, and number of time periods. TI BAII Plus will be used in the classroom for demonstration purpose. Other Supplements: Pearson s MyFinLab is also required. Course Description: The methods utilized by corporations in securing and utilizing capital. Major topics of interest include capital budgeting, cost of capital, capital structure, and characteristics of alternative forms of capital. Prerequisites: ACCT 202 (can be taken concurrently) and ECON 265. It is the responsibility of students to ensure that all course pre-requisite requirements are met prior to enrolling in this course. Students are 1

2 subject to administrative removal from the course if, at any time, it is determined that course pre-requisites have not been met. Credit Hours: 3 Hours Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Articulate the (ethical) role of the financial manager 2. Perform basic financial ratio analysis 3. Apply the time value of money 4. Perform valuation of financial securities (stocks and bonds) 5. State the effects of financial leverage on company performance 6. Estimate the cost of capital 7. Apply the Capital Asset Pricing Model 8. Apply basic capital budgeting techniques COB Skill Development: In addition to introducing the principles of financial management, this course will help students to develop analytical problem solving skills. Pearson s MyFinanceLab (see Multimedia Library and Chapter Resources) includes an access to most course materials including etext, chapter outline, financial calculator, set of exercise questions and problems at the end of each chapter from the textbook, videos, animations, spreadsheets, and weblinks. All chapter review homework assignments and tests will also be administered via MyFinanceLab. You may find dates for availability and due of homeworks and test from Assignment Schedule on the last page of this syllabus. Solutions will be available for student s review after the due of homework assignments and tests. If you are going to miss an exam due to unexpected personal urgency and official school functions, please contact me so that arrangements can be made. The makeup exam may not necessarily have the same format as the actual exam, and the student should expect the level of difficulty to be significantly higher. Important Dates: October 20 (Friday) is the last day to drop a class or withdraw from the university without evaluation. Attendance: All students are expected to attend class regularly and punctually. While students are strongly encouraged to attend class, there will be no explicit grade given for attendance. However, it could prove critical in determining the final grades. Also, consistent punctual attendance, participation in class discussions, careful attention to the course material, and preparedness before coming to class should greatly and logically improve your grades. Academic Misconduct: Review the Student Rights and Responsibilities section of USI s Bulletin and the University Handbook that outline definition of academic misconduct and disciplinary action. The policies cover a variety of forms, including cheating, fabrication, and plagiarism. Make sure you turn off cell phones during class and during exams. Professional Demeanor: Students are to act in a professional manner. Cell phones should be turned off before class starts and should remain off during lecture time. Having a conversation with a classmate during lecture time on any topic, including course material is considered a disruptive behavior and will not be tolerated. Any questions and/or comments should be strictly directed to the instructor. All deadlines for assignments and projects should be respected.
