3 General Expectations What to do when your child is unwell / absent Call the General Office (GO) or the form teacher State the condition and the duration of his/her medical leave Submit MC / letter that explains your child s absence the next day For cases of infectious disease (e.g. HFMD, Chicken Pox), your child should remain at home until the doctor certifies him/her fit For National examinations (i.e. PSLE), only an MC is valid and must be accompanied with a doctor s note indicating that the child is unable to take the PSLE examination (see pg 17 of Diary)

4 General Expectations: Snack Time Healthy snack break Every Wednesday to bring fruits (Fruittie Wednesday) Please bring a healthy snack

5 School Rules: Punctuality Assembly will start at 7.30 am in the hall or the classroom (Wednesdays). Pupils who are not in the assembly area at 7.30am will be considered late. Persistent latecomers will be issued with a warning letter.

6 School Rules: Use of Mobile Devices Mobile phones must be switched off during school hours. Pupils must seek permission of teachers to use phone after school for necessary calls or messages. Mobile phones must not be used for playing games or listening to music in school. Consequence for misuse of mobile phones They will be confiscated and parents have to come to school to claim it personally.

7 Home-School Alignment Support your child in his/her education Show concern by: - reading and acknowledging all school letters / forms - ensuring your child checks his/her diary daily - helping your child prioritize tasks and activities - setting aside time for work and play - setting SMART* goals together and helping him/her achieve them (*Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound)

8 Home-School Alignment Supervise and moderate extreme behaviours of your children, if necessary Show concern by: asking them what they have learnt for the day limiting the amount of time spent chatting online, playing on mobile devices or computer games reminding them of how to behave online (e.g., social media platforms, whatsapp chatgroups)

9 Home-School Alignment Reinforce good behaviours - Praise your child when (s)he deserves it - Praise your child s effort, rather than his/her ability or achievements. Praising your child s effort helps to reinforce a good learning attitude. e.g., Excellent, I can see that all your hard work is paying off! (Praise for effort) compared to Wow, full marks! You are so smart! (Praise for ability/achievement, which doesn t do anything much for the child.)

14 Subject-Based Banding What is Subject-Based Banding (SBB)? Pupils do subjects at the levels that best meet their abilities study subjects they are strong in to the highest level possible Subjects are offered at Standard and Foundation levels It is NOT INTENDED to provide a softer option

15 School makes recommendation for a subject combination Pass mark 50 marks Teachers recommendation Importance of EL & Maths Parents have the option to accept the school s recommendation or proceed with their own choice At the end of P4

16 At the end of P5, school will decide Expectations Pass HMT and get A for MT If they fail all subjects Pass: 50m Pass at least 1 subject* Decision Continue with HMT at P6 4 foundation subjects at P6 Continue with P5 subject combination to P6

17 Considerations Think long-term & help children to do so: Focus on work ethics & character values that lead to results Holistic lifestyle: watch the tuition & enrichment lessons; need for sports & CCA etc. Partner with school

18 Direct Schools Admission Gives participating schools greater flexibility in their admission of students Adheres to key principles of transparency and meritocracy Talents and achievements, in both academic and nonacademic areas, can be considered for S1 admission Each participating school sets its own criteria for selection based on the academic and/or non-academic areas that the school would like to emphasise Includes (but not limited to) portfolios, trials, interviews and/or tests Once a student accepts the DSA, s/he CANNOT take part in the Sec 1 Option Exercise and change schools after the PSLE results

Assessments: Term 1 & 3 Assessments, Mid-Year & End-of-Year Exams Areas to focus on: Key science vocabulary words and process skills such as inferring, analyzing & predicting will be emphasised. Pupils will also be taught to apply science concepts learnt into new situations. ICT-infused lessons will be introduced to promote self-directed and collaborative learning. 35 Lasallian Road Run Donation Card Donation Cards will be given out to each child by 5 Feb. Money collected will be used to fund Lasallian Projects. Purpose: To instill in our pupils the value of giving back to the community and to be a blessing to others. Looking forward to your strong support!
