There was a lot of information they gave us and not enough time to go through them all. It's tricky to work out the timing; I only needed 4-5 minutes or less to present, but the council's discussion of our questions ended up taking much longer than expected. It was a great disucssion, and I'm glad so many were engaged in helping answer the questions, but I know it did take time out of other's presentations. In the future, I think allowing for more discussion with the councils (ex: 3-5 min presentation with at least 5-7 min for discussion). Making sure everyone stays on schedule, so that sessions don't run longer than planned. Only the team is presenting in the room, to prevent disclosure of information Maybe we could send them the concept of our product and some questions before the presentation, so they could decide whether they would have anything to add or not. - Nothing I can think of To let AC know our questions in advance and have them choose the presentations they would want to attend. I think it would have been better if we started on time. As the last group to present, I felt pressure to cover everything quickly even though there were no signs that we were running out of time. Show a timer on the screen to help guide the AC so that effective discussion can take place. n/a make sure time slots are more strict. clubs at the beginning talked for 0 minutes, leaving 10 minutes for 3 clubs to go :(

8 Q9 - What information did you receive prior to the events that was most helpful: What information did you receive prior to the events that was most helpful: The overall schedule was really nicely put together and allowed me to know where and when I had to be somewhere. An from the food science listserve The detailed itinerary with frequently asked questions I've been attending for a few years now, so not much of it is new/necessary for me anymore The bios on each council member was very helpful to get a feel for the expertise of those on the council before they arrived. Knowing advisory council members ahead of time was very useful to familiarize myself with them The schedule of all events that were happening. 10 Q10 - What additional information could have been provided to better prepare you for the events: What additional information could have been provided to better prepare you for the events: n/a I think everything we had was great. Common conversation starters that could be used in case there is nothing to talk about with the advisors. Tips for interacting with the advisory council members NA s could have been less confusing Didn't realize how informal/how many people would be missing the second advising session nothing Advisory council members' bio a concise summary of each company they work or Full attendee list. maybe better understanding of which members were actually attending lunch Some bios of the members were not posted prior to the meeting More information in the advisory council bios. The itinerary was not made easily available and I had to sort through many s to find a link to it on the website. Standard Expectations a letter from our advisor about their food science journey more of a description of what each event was going to be like, and a better biography for each council member I would have been interested what the Advisory Council members wanted to talk about to us, what topics they were interested in discussing, had expertise in (that could not be gleaned from their CV) none

11 Q11 - Any other thoughts or comments you would like to share: Any other thoughts or comments you would like to share: I think there are a lot of students, especially younger ones who don't know what advisory council is. I think maybe talking about it in FDSC classes might help to convince students to participate. Distribution is primarily through e- mails. n/a It felt a bit contradictory to receive a document with so many pages of what to do/what not to do but then be told "be relaxed and enjoy the event"; Also it felt like this semester especially there was a pressure to come up with so many new questions for the advisory council. I can understand that it might get old for the council if they are answering the same questions year after year, but it doesn't feel like they take into account that the student body is changing year after year, and often times, as newer students it's natural that they have the exact same questions that other students had asked in the past. Having a FAQs on the advisory council webpage is helpful, but it isn't quite the same as hearing those answers in person The lunch on Friday was somewhat of a disappointment. For those who had signed up for the lunch (thinking it was going to be equivalent networking to the dinner), it did not unfortunately meet my expectations. I really enjoyed speaking with whom I did. However, we had been promised to have lunch with 3 council members and that is just not how it worked out. I really wish there would have been more council members present for the lunch. There should be more advertising about the Student Council to all food science students. Even though s have been sent out, many people don't completely understand what the Advisory Council is, so they end up missing out on a beneficial learning and networking opportunity. I think it was a great opportunity to interact with people working in the industry NA Some of the Advisory Council members were not listed on the resource page I guess if the AC shifted to Wednesday and Thursday instead of Thursday and Friday, students might get more individual time with the AC members, as some of them seem to have left by Friday noon. More organized we could have some standing tables during table tops to help setting down cheese plates I didn't have time to go to the events but I was one of the undergrad reps for the session on Friday I think that more diverse pairs of council members at dinner would be helpful. For my dinner, both members were from TIC gums and neither had more than a bachelor's degree. They were very nice, but could not comment on how a graduate degree might affect a job search. I think it would be nice to have members with grad degrees eat with grad students. Also, the ice breaker was too quick - there wasn't time to talk to the members at the tables about advice. I think in the future it might be nice to try something along the lines of "speed dating" - 1 or min with each council member before the table top session. Of course there will be more students, but students could be paired up as well to practice their questions or just talk about projects. Some of the undergrads could use practice asking appropriate questions. Some of the topics that came up at dinner were more about Halloween costumes and snap chat than professional advice. dinner was great!

12 Structured lunch i loved the advisory council! it was a great way to meet people in the industry, and I can't wait for the one in the spring the undergrads need a special session on acceptable conversations for the dinner. Undergrads dominated conversation at our dinner and were complaining about issues that were easily solved and did not need to be raised to advisory council members.
