2 B R O A D P U R P O S E The Teacher Librarian will lead a library which is an innovative and collaborative learning space embracing 21 st Century pedagogies. As the College information and resources specialist, you will develop resources and tools to support teachers in the creation of quality learning experiences and meaningful connections with classroom learning. The Teacher Librarian will support and implement the vision of Christian Brothers College community through advocating and building effective library and information services and programs that contribute to the development of lifelong learners. You will work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/care givers and Christian Brothers College personnel to facilitate learning by students and engage in educational reform. The Teacher Librarian is responsible to the Principal directly, and/or through the relevant PORs for; The management of the College information resources, library website and services to facilitate learning/teaching; Initiating and participating in the teaching of information literacy in the context of the total curriculum; The development and implementation of designated areas of curriculum; The teaching of these areas to designated groups of students; The students, fellow employees and his/her health, safety and welfare; and The maintenance of any place or equipment designated or chosen for specific activities. Key Responsibilities and Duties; D U T Y S T A T E M E N T The teacher will: Apply curriculum knowledge and teaching methods, which facilitate successful learning in library studies, Research Project and related fields. Respond to learner s needs. Develop and maintain working relationships. Provide a balanced and challenging program relevant to the needs of the students. Assess, record and report learner achievement. Establish structures and processes to achieve a productive learning environment. Employ behaviour management strategies which ensure a safe, orderly and successful learning environment. Ensure that confidential information is handled appropriately. Carry out other non-instructional responsibilities which are part of the teachers role eg support and adhere to College and SACCS policies and relevant government legislation; carry out routine tasks including record keeping, surveys, distribution of materials; meet yard duty requirements; exercise a duty of care; and improve skills, knowledge and performance through professional development and performance appraisals. Support the ethos of the Catholic school. Other duties as directed by the Principal. 1. Librarian Responsibilities Develop strategic and operational plans for the Library elearning environment aligned to the strategic direction of the College. Develop, organise and manage information resources, systems and professional development which meet the educational, cultural and recreational needs of students and the professional needs of teachers. Develop, support and promote a Year s 7-12 inquiry based learning approach to information literacy and reading choices. Develop strategies to lead and inform research and information literacy skills. Coordinate the roles and daily tasks of Library staff and volunteers. Coordinate displays, special events and activities to support student learning. 3 Provide a friendly learning environment in which students feel confident and supported. Manage and maintain the daily administrative tasks, communication and records management. Develop and administer resource budgets for the Library in consultation with the Finance Team. Liaise with library resource personnel at both the Junior Campus and CBC Community Children s Centre. 2. Professional Responsibilities Operate in accordance with the Charter for Teachers in SA Catholic Schools. Uphold and contribute to the ethos of Catholic schools as outlined in the EREA and CESA Code of Conduct. Understand the employer s requirements and act in accordance with South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools (SACCS) and the College policies, guidelines and procedures. Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time including record keeping. Participate in professional development activities which lead to improved student outcomes and strengthens the professionalism of the teacher. Appropriately assist students who are hurt, sick or in distress. Meet and teach students at designated locations and times including relief lessons, study periods and excursions when required. Develop and maintain effective professional partnerships with other staff. Undertake supervision duties including yard duty diligently. Attend staff meetings, parent teacher interviews and other co-curricular activities. Accept delegated responsibilities. 3. Content of Teaching and Learning Plan a comprehensive learning program. Address students varying intellectual, emotional and physical abilities in teaching practice through differentiated curriculum, multi modal delivery, and modified assessment and in liaison with parents and the College Inclusive Education Team. Identify individual learning needs and styles, and plan learning experiences that enable all students to achieve success. Know and understand a range of learning methodologies and technologies and their application to the classroom. Demonstrate best practice in teaching and learning. 4. Classroom Management and Behaviour Education Establish positive and effective relationships with students. Establish and maintain a task oriented learning environment. Set and adhere to timelines for completion of work in line with both the College and SACE assessment deadline polices. Apply behaviour management skills in line with College policies in accordance to the College Personal Responsibility Plan and SACCS Policies for Behaviour Education. Work with students to create an attractive welcoming classroom environment. Maintain standards of tidiness and orderliness. Respond appropriately to student behaviour in line with College policies. Maintain a no surprise policy for parents or College leadership in terms of students at risk. 5. Assessment and Reporting of Student Learning Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student progress and achievement. Use a variety of assessment and reporting methods to regularly monitor learning process. Use assessment tasks that are purposeful and relevant to the teaching and learning program and the learning needs of students. Provide students with timely and positive feedback on performance that reinforces student achievement and focuses on improvement. Provide parents and students with detailed, accurate and informative written and oral reports at appropriate times, as required by the College. PID - Teacher /Librarian Senior Campus November 2017

4 6. Interaction with the school and broader community Demonstrate effective communication skills with students, colleagues, parents or guardians and others. Work effectively as a member of a College team in a range of school activities. Participate in partnerships with colleagues, other schools and professional associations to reflect upon and improve teaching and learning practice in designated curriculum areas.
