ITEN WORKSHOPS The ITEN Wrkshps aim t train a cadre f in-cuntry trainers wh will, in turn, prvide secndary schl teachers in the Americas with a cncrete teaching methdlgy mdel based n prmting students critical thinking skills thrugh the design and implementatin f lcal and cmmunity prjects in Sciences, Technlgy, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics r STREAM. 2. FINANCING ITEN will grant up t USD4,000 t selected institutins t carry ut ne wrkshp. Fr mre details, please read carefully this call fr prpsals. 3. THE INTER-AMERICAN TEACHER EDUCATION NETWORK The Inter-American Teacher Educatin Netwrk (ITEN) is a netwrk f individuals frm different sectrs thrughut the Americas wh are invlved r interested in the teaching prfessin. Our missin is t cntribute t the imprvement f the quality f educatin in the Americas by prmting knwledge exchange, capacity building and technical assistance, thrugh the use f virtual tls and in-persn activities. ITEN is an initiative f the Executive Secretariat fr Integral Develpment f the Organizatin f American States. Learn mre abut us here. 3
4 - HOW TO APPLY STEP 1: Read this call fr applicatins carefully t ensure cmpliance with all rules frmulated here. STEP 2: Send the Applicatin Frm tgether with all the necessary supprting dcuments as established n this call by February 16, All necessary dcuments can be fund here. STEP 3: If yur prpsal is shrt-listed, ITEN will cnduct a virtual meeting with the interested parties. STEP 4: If yur prpsal is selected, yu will need t submit a frmal acceptance letter n later than February 23,
5 - ABOUT THE ITEN WORKSHOPS 1. OBJECTIVE The ITEN Wrkshps aim t train a cadre f in-cuntry trainers wh will, in turn, prvide secndary schl teachers in the Americas with a cncrete teaching methdlgy mdel based n prmting students critical thinking skills thrugh the design and implementatin f lcal and cmmunity prjects Sciences, Technlgy, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics r STREAM. 2. THE WORKSHOP AT A GLANCE ITEN partners with Ministries f Educatin f English-speaking OAS member states t implement the wrkshp, and t c-certify the participants upn successful culminatin f this activity. ITEN will prvide the wrkshp thrugh ne f its specialists and will prvide a cmplementary grant f up t USD 4, (fur-thusand) t the participating Ministry t be used fr the implementatin f the n-site prtin. The wrkshp cnsists f 3-4 weeks f nline instructin (1-2 hurs per week, available live and recrded) and a 3-day n-site wrkshp in the cuntry. It is a train-the-trainer wrkshp, targeted at principals, teacher leaders, curriculum develpers and teacher prfessinal develpment staff selected by the Ministry. Its theme is related t critical thinking skills and cmmunity develpment Sciences, Technlgy, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics r STREAM. Please see item 5 The ITEN wrkshps allw teachers t strengthen their ability t prmte students 21 st Century skills including Cmmunicatin, Cllabratin, Creativity and Critical thinking skills, and apply these in addressing prblems in their cmmunities. Teachers after participating in this wrkshp are expected t lead ther teachers t learn methdlgies that will fster students capacity t identify a prblem in their lcal cmmunity, cllecting data and analyzing infrmatin, related t a prblem in the cmmunity. Hence, develping pssible slutins using critical thinking and prblem slving in subjects such as, Sciences, Technlgy, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics r STREAM. In general, fllwing the cnclusin f these wrkshps, participants are expected t frm teams in their educatinal institutins, share what they have learned with their clleagues, and wrk with their peers and students t develp and implement lcal cmmunity prjects. Other ITEN resurces will be available fr the implementatin f these wrkshps including the Adbe Cnnect Platfrm fr webinars, and the Virtual Cmmunity f Practice, where teachers can jin and create frums t prmte dialgue and infrmatin exchange n prjects amng participating students and teachers. 3. MODALITY Blended: 3-4 week nline cmpnent (1-2 hurs per week, available live and recrded) 3-day n-site wrkshp in the cuntry 4. AUDIENCE Principals, teacher leaders, curriculum develpers and teacher prfessinal develpment staff selected by the Ministry. Number f participants expected: 5

FOCUS The fcus f the wrkshp will include: Learning abut cnnectins between the cntent knwledge in subjects such as sciences, technlgy, reading, engineering, arts and/r mathematics and Cmmunity Based Prblems Slving Integratin f hands n activities int schl curriculum and instructin Enhancing pedaggical practices that prmte cnceptual understanding f subjects such as sciences, technlgy, reading, engineering, arts and mathematics t apprach issues in the cmmunity Enhancing leadership abilities in the classrm Integratin f technlgy t enhance classrm instructin Intrductin t lessn study in which teachers implement activities within their classrms and in their cmmunities, and analyze impact f thse activities n student learning Learning abut educatinal framewrks that include inquiry based and prject based appraches such as learning by ding, active learning, experiential learning and design thinking Learning t create perfrmance based assessments 6. FINANCIAL SUPPORT ITEN will prvide up t USD 4, per cuntry t supprt the implementatin f this activity t cver csts such as venues, materials, amng thers, which are necessary fr its in-persn cmpnent. The n-site wrkshp shuld include: a) Rental r prvisin f a venue with capacity fr 50 peple, with prjectin system, cmputers, whitebards and wireless Internet cnnectin. b) Cmputers (at least ne fr every tw trainers), prjectr and screen c) Accmmdatin (if necessary), transprtatin and fd fr the 40 participating trainers during the three days f the wrkshp. d) Materials and supplies fr its implementatin (paper, phtcpies, etc.) e) Necessary lcal persnnel fr lgistical preparatin and supprt during the wrkshp. 7. IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS The wrkshps shuld be held between March and April The prgram will cnsist f a virtual cmpnent fllwed by a face-t-face cmpnent as fllws: When Cntent Week 1 (Online) Intrductin Warm-up Activity Tpic: Enhancing 21 st Century Skills fr Cmmunity Based Prblem Slving Week 2 (Online) Warm-up Activity Tpic: Incrprating Technlgy in the classrm t engage students, teachers, and parents, and the cmmunity as a whle Week 3 (Online) Warm-up Activity 6
7 Tpic: Pedaggical framewrks fr imprving student engagement thrugh cmmunity based prjects using STREAM (Science, Technlgy, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics). Hands-n Challenge Tackling prblems in the cmmunity thrugh learning by ding, active learning, experiential learning and design thinking Technlgy Enhanced 21 st Century Learning Enhancing yur pedaggical and leadership practices t teach like a champin Hands-n Challenge Ethics and Leadership Lessn Planning and Observatins f the Cmmunity Based Prjects prduced in Week 3-4 Perfrmance based assessments STREAM Fair fr Teachers, Students, Parents and Cmmunity This Fair will be presenting the Cmmunity Based Prjects created and share best-practices frm the ITEN wrkshp Clsing Ceremny 8. EXPECTED RESULTS At the end f the wrkshp, the participants will be able t: Learn t enhance their teaching, pedaggical, leadership and prblem slving skills Learn t becme better cllabratrs, cmmunicatrs, creative prblem slvers and critical thinkers Learn t becme prficient with use f ICT (Infrmatin, Cmmunicatin and Technlgy) Learn abut ral cmmunicatin and technical writing Learn t becme change agents t transfrm educatinal practices thrugh innvatins Learn t train ther clleagues t bring change t their cmmunities and enhance their leadership abilities in the classrm. 7
8 - RULES OF PARTICIPATION - 1. PARTICIPANTS The fllwing institutins are eligible t participate: Ministries, Secretariats r Departments f Educatin at the natinal, municipal r prvincial level in a Member State f the OAS; Other institutins such as thse listed belw may participate, as lng as they present their expressins f interest in cllabratin with a Ministry, Secretariat r Department f Educatin at the natinal, municipal r prvincial level in an OAS member state: Public r private institutins f teacher training lcated in ne r mre OAS member states Civil sciety rganizatins legally registered in ne r mre OAS member states Public and private universities and research institutes lcated in ne r mre OAS member states Nn-prfit private entities lcated in ne r mre OAS member states Netwrks f gvernment institutins and/r public and private university institutins and/r civil sciety rganizatins lcated in ne r mre OAS member states 2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMMITMENTS The rle f the Ministries and Secretariats f Educatin interested will be t: a) Express their interest in implementing, tgether with ITEN, the ITEN Wrkshps, thrugh a cmmitment letter (see here). b) Assign an fficial f the Ministry r Secretariat f Educatin as the cntact and persn respnsible fr the implementatin f the wrkshps. c) Select and nminate 40 participants t attend the wrkshp, wh will be later training ther teachers. Selected participants must have the expertise and skills necessary t participate in the wrkshp and prvide cntinuity t the wrk. d) Prvide a jint certificatin with ITEN t all participants wh successfully cmplete the wrkshp and train their peers. e) Fllw up and mnitr the develpment and implementatin f the educatinal cmmunity prjects, prducts f the wrkshp. f) Prepare partial and final reprts f the activity, participate at interviews and surveys as necessary. The rle f the OAS-ITEN will be t: a) Make available t this prject a persn in charge f crdinating all the activities f this prpsal. b) Make available all its virtual platfrms t all participants. c) Cver the csts related t the transprtatin, accmmdatin, and fd f tw f its specialists t deliver the ITEN Wrkshps. d) Assist in mnitring the creatin and implementatin f educatinal cmmunity prjects accrding t plan presented by ITEN. 3. 9 Applicatin and supprting dcuments must be submitted in accrdance with mdels prvided and n later than February 16, 2018, t Mrs. Nathalia Khayat at narauj@as.rg 4. SELECTION CRITERIA Institutins will be selected based n the criteria listed belw. a) Applicatin must be cmplete and be submitted befre the deadline f this call: February 16, 2018 (see sectin 3); b) At least ne f the institutins applying t participate in the ITEN Wrkshp must be, withut exceptin, a Ministry r Secretariat f Educatin f an OAS member state; c) The Applicatin must fit within the framewrk f the bjectives f this call; be clear and relevant; and have a clear and strng justificatin/mtivatin as t why yur institutin shuld be the beneficiary f these wrkshps; d) The prfiles f the institutins shuld be clear and relevant, with prven experience in the tpics t be addressed in the ITEN Wrkshps and/r demnstrated cmmitment t supprt the use f cmmunity prjects as an educatinal tl; institutins must have the apprpriate institutinal capacity t serve as the beneficiary institutin f these wrkshps; e) The applicatin must demnstrate explicit cmmitment n the part f the parties invlved f) Pririty will be given t applicatins that present an integrated perspective f gender, indigenus peples, Afr-descendants and/r grups in situatins f vulnerability; g) Gegraphic variety will be taken int cnsideratin when selecting the prpsals; h) Optinal. An infrmatin dcument n the practice, prgram and/r plicy related t the wrkshp tpics already being carried ut by the Ministry can be upladed t the C-TEP knwledge bank; Nte 1: Applicatins will be prcessed in the rder in which they are received. Nte 2: All ITEN Wrkshps must take place in OAS member states, and all participating institutins, rganizatins, and individuals must be members f ne r mre OAS member states. Nte 3: Selectins are final and are nt subject t appeal. 5. FOLLOW-UP AND MONITORING a) The Ministry r Secretariat f Educatin will mnitr the wrkshp and pst-wrkshp based n a plan presented by ITEN, which will include indicatrs and measurement instruments, such as surveys, classrm bservatins, interviews, etc. b) The Ministry will mnitr all prject activities and ensure cmpliance with the prject bjectives. c) ITEN will assign a persn and will prvide the necessary digital materials and resurces t supprt the Ministries and Secretariats f Educatin in this prcess. d) Fr the purpses f this mnitring, Ministries and Secretariats f Educatin shuld specify in their expressins f interest the mnitring mechanisms they will use, such as: wrkshp attendance lists, surveys, mnthly mnitring reprts, certificatin f the teacher participants wh have cmpleted the entire training prcess, amng thers. 6. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS a) The ITEN Wrkshps must be held between March and April b) After annuncing the selected prpsals, ITEN will cntact the fcal pint(s) f each prpsal t cnfirm the dates and agenda fr the wrkshps, in rder t prperly rganize the lgistical and technical activities. 9
10 c) The agenda f each prpsal shuld respnd t the bjectives f the ITEN wrkshps, as well as t the interests and needs f all participating institutins. Therefre, it shuld be drafted jintly by the individuals f all the participating institutins in cllabratin with ITEN. d) Please nte that ITEN reserves the right t review, mdify and/r cancel any activity withut prir ntice. 10
