2 OBJECTIVES To communicate with parents school s direction for the year. To share with parents form teachers goals and expectations of pupils. To connect with parents to support the progress of each child.

5 SCHOOL MATTERS

6 School Standard Operation Procedures (SOP s) Absent for any exam - an official medical certificate (MC) is required. Absent on school day MC or letter from parent/guardian. Frequent absenteeism & late-coming school will send out an advisory letter. For early departure on school day parent/guardian must be present to sign out the child. Avoid taking child on trips during term time will miss out on learning & school activities. Principal s approval is required.

7 Update on Attendance-taking Teachers will record daily attendance using School Cockpit mobile phone App. Parent/Guardian will receive a phone message at 8.30am if child is absent.

8 Homework Policy for P5-P6 Time Amount of work Normal school days (Monday to Friday) Monday - Thursday Maximum 2 hours per day 45 mins for Mother Tongue 1 h and 15 mins for English, Maths and Science Friday Maximum 3 hours 1 h for Mother Tongue 2 h for English, Maths and Science

9 Homework Policy for P5-P6 Time SA Revisions School holidays (Mar, Jun and Sep holidays)* Amount of work SA1 & SA2 revision starts about 1 month before the exams Minimum of 1 full paper per subject / per week before the examination. But not more than 2 papers per day *Teachers have to note that they have to go through all papers given to their pupils (Mar holidays) Maximum 4 hours 1 h for Mother Tongue 3 h for English, Maths and Science Festive seasons (CNY, Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Haji, Deepavali)* Jun & Sep 1 week or 10 hours worth of homework Strictly no homework to be given *Any other school holidays or festive holidays, such as Youth Day, Vesak Day, Labour Day etc., it is up to the discretion of the teachers to decide if learning time is necessary.

11 OBJECTIVE OF ASSESSMENTS Assessment is a systematic process that plays a significant role in effective teaching. It begins with the identification of learning goals and ends with a judgement concerning how well those goals have been attained.

26 5 LOVE Class Rules & Expectations Observance & Adherence Late or Incomplete Work Pupils are required to complete their daily homework. In the event that pupils do not complete their work, they will be required to stay behind during recess or after school to finish their incomplete work. Parents will be informed in the event your child is consistently late in handing in their homework.

28 TIPS TO HELP YOUR CHILD Promote a reading and speaking culture at home in accurate English & Mother Tongue: Children read when they see their parents reading. Children speak when they hear their parents speaking. A proper PLACE for study and revision at home (away from TV, computer & electronic devices). A regular TIME for study and revision daily: Sit beside your child; your presence means much to him/her. Check your child s school diary and bag for homework & assignments.

29 TIPS TO HELP YOUR CHILD Parents, please ensure that the completion of homework is monitored. there is routine and discipline. your child has sufficient sleep. the teaching of values is not neglected. you provide opportunities for independence. you spend quality time with your child.

33 How can we teach and reinforce the value of effective effort? Praise effort, NOT intelligence, in your choice of language. When your child says, "This is easy, reply: It wasn t always easy. What did you do to get smart at it? When children succeed, ask them to identify what accounted for their success, and hold them accountable for figuring out how their effort played a role.

34 How can we teach and reinforce the value of effective effort? Make effective effort a theme in your home/class. Tell personal stories of your effective effort. Ask pupils to recall times they have succeeded because they didn t give up. Recognize and celebrate effort.
