1 Shube: LA II CP/Honors Weekly Schedule Aug. 28-Sept. 1 Mon. 8/28: Tues. 8/29: Sub introduction/ Mrs. Shube update Seating Chart placement Class Rules and Grading Policy Sorting Exercise - Class supplies (see Rules and Grading Policy handout) by Tuesday, 10 points - Have Rules and Grading Policy handout signed due tomorrow for 5 points Wed. 8/30: Collect signatures for Class Rules and Grading Policies 5 points Explain Symbols discuss examples Choose four symbols for yourself: Animal, Color, Element (Earth, Wind, Fire, Water), and Plant Write a sentence for each of your symbols. Explain commentary sentences write one for each of your main symbol sentences Writing Rule 1: NTSSWTSW/paragraph - Think Book spiral notebook, folder/section in a three-ringed binder, and highlighters (pink, green, yellow, plus one other color) needed by Tuesday - Optional: bring colored pencils or markers to begin symbol circle project tomorrow. Limited art supplies will be provided if you do not bring your own. Thurs. 8/31: Writing Rule 2: Eliminate A, An, or The from the beginning of your sentences Writing Rule 3: Eliminate the dead words get, nice, good, bad, stuff, thing, and a lot Sentence Type: Adverb openers brainstorm adverbs Rewrite Symbol sentences into a paragraph including a topic sentence and concluding sentence. Comply with all three writing rules and include one adverb opener. Begin drawing out your symbol circle; there will be class time Tuesday to finish. - Type symbol paragraph (use style guide format posted on Mrs. Shube s web page), include a topic and concluding sentence, follow all three writing rules, and include one adverb opener. 10 sentences total - Think Book spiral notebook, folder/section in a three-ringed binder needed by Tuesday; highlighters (pink, yellow, green, blue/purple) needed by Thursday - Optional: bring colored pencils or markers to complete symbol circle project Tuesday. 2 Shube: LA II CP/Honors Weekly Schedule Sept. 4-8 Mon. 9/4: Labor Day Tues. 9/5 (Sub): - Go to the library to check out consumable textbooks. Units 1-4; label each on the binding with your name and period and leave on the shelves by the smart board. Per.1, please take down the green grammar books and give to the librarian. This will make room for more of your consumables. - Finish symbol circle project. Paste or tape on colored construction paper along with your typed paragraph. Lay on top of the basket for your period. If you need more time on this, it must be completed at home and brought back on Wednesday. There will be no class time given for this project on Wednesday. - Check in supplies with the sub: spiral notebook, folder/section in a three-ringed binder needed highlighters (pink, yellow, green, blue/purple); 5 points - Finish Symbol Circle Project if not finished in class. - Bring spiral notebook to class tomorrow Wed. 9/6: - Harrison Bergeron short story read the story highlight examples of handicaps that were applied to individuals - set table groups explain New Rules assignment, someone bring poster board - Think Book sections we will label sections for sentence types, grammar, writing rules, miscellaneous, quick writes/rtl s - Reading Strategies Power Point notes in Think Book - Get poster board, clip art/pictures, crayons/markers/colored pencils and whatever other supplies you need to create your projects. - go back through the story and label examples of each of the reading strategies (in a different color than you labeled the handicaps ) Thurs. 9/7: Harrison Bergeron short story - In table groups, work on the New Rules project - Create your rules (at least 10) and include pictures/graphics - Harrison Bergeron quiz Think Book sentence types: include notes on adverb openers Think Book grammar: possessive nouns Complete your New Rules poster if not finished in class; be prepared to present posters tomorrow to the class. - begin worksheet; finish for homework Fri. 9/8: Possessive nouns worksheet Possessive Nouns Quiz Harrison Bergeron short story - New Rules- complete presentations (20 points) - All classes, we start reading on Wednesday of next week. If you want your own copy to annotate in, you must have it by Tuesday night. - LA II Honors only print out The Pit and the Pendulum from Shube s website. Highlight and annotate for Monday.

Describe how you feel when you face this type of situation. Talk about the actual fear versus the imagined one.
