6 Banding of Students Every child is unique, with different aptitudes, capabilities and talents. In allocating classes for P5 students, we need to provide our students a balanced experience to learn and interact with their peers of different strengths and at the same time cater to their differing needs in academic subjects. Streamed into mixed ability classes as their form class to provide opportunity for students of different strengths to mix together and learn about important values like helping and encouraging one another

7 Banding of Students However, for English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongues lessons, your child will be placed in their ability groupings taking his/her strengths into consideration. We believe that this will better cater to your child s learning both in academic and social-emotional learning.

8 Structure of Assessment The assessment plan for Pri. 5 is as follows: P5 SBB will be decided by the school at the end of No more CA1 and CA2

9 Important Notes on Assessment Be punctual for all school assessments. The school will decide, on a case-by-case basis, whether a latecomer is granted extra time or even allowed to sit for the paper he/she is late for.

18 Information on Result Slip Percentile Rank Percentage of scores in its frequency distribution that are lower than it. If a child is in BD1 (91 to 100 percentile), it means that he has performed better than 91% of his peers in that subject.

19 Information on Result Slip Percentile Rank Instead of giving discreet percentile values, the school put the percentile ranking in bands, for e.g. Band 1 (BD1) for 91% to 100% Band 2 (BD2) for 81% to 90% Band 3 (BD3) for 71% to 80%

20 Standard Deviation (SD) - Shows how much variation exists from the average or mean value. A low SD indicates that the students test scores tend to be very close to the mean whereas high SD indicates otherwise.

24 PSLE Preparation Parents can support your child by helping them to develop good study habits. To study effectively means to put in less time and get better results. Parents can support your child by listening to them and pay more attention to their emotional needs as they are transiting to the pre-adolescent stage.

25 PSLE Preparation Time Management Help your child draw up a time-table for their week s work. Sunday night is perfect for them to sit down and plan for the following week. Allow time for each subject, giving more time to their weaker subjects. Be realistic; know how much they can do. It is important to give time for relaxation and exercise. Parents can support your child by helping them to develop good study habits.

26 DSA seeks to promote holistic education and provide students an opportunity to demonstrate a more diverse range of achievements and talents in seeking admission to a secondary school allow participating secondary schools to select some P6 students for admission to Secondary One based on their achievements and talents before the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results are released conducted in 3 stages from 1 July to late November
