Graduates are able to assist in the construction of electric transmission and distribution systems, relate electrical theory to electric power systems, work comfortably at heights while climbing poles and towers, operate power distribution equipment, troubleshoot power distribution and transmission systems and have the opportunity to secure a (CDL) commercial driver s license. B. Successful graduates grasp the importance of the proper PPE required for the job, their effective use, as well as OSHA regulations pertinent to Electric Power Generation Transmission and Distribution. C. Graduates have acquired life and work skills to be successful in the workforce, to include following all written safety procedures relative to the transmission, generation and distribution system, as well as utilizing effective and accurate written and oral communication skills. Course Description & Introduction This course covers State and Federal OSHA Regulations and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) work rules, regarding safety in the Electrical Field pertaining to the Electric Power Generation,Transmission and Distribution system. Emphasis is on the use of lifting equipment, personal and company rules of safety V. Course Competencies Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: A. Describe State OSHA regulations (Links to Program Outcome B) B. Describe Federal OSHA regulations (Links to Program Outcome B) C. Understand proper use first aid and CPR (Links to Program Outcome B) D. Recite major safety rules (Links to Program Outcome B,C) D. Explain Minimum approach distance. (Links to Program Outcome A,B,C) E. Describe air testing of rubber gloves (Links to Program Outcome B, C)

Learning Outcomes The student will: A. Develop a plan for job briefings. B. Identify minimum approach distances for qualified and non-qualified workers. C. Complete class projects as instructed. D. Demonstrate how to inspect rubber goods for defects. E. Explain lock out tag out procedures. F. Assessment Methods & Grading Policy A Tests & Quizzes 50% B Class Participation 10% C Homework 10% D Final Exam 30% F 0 59 No makeup tests will be allowed unless prior arrangements are made or written appeal to instructor. All makeup test will be at the discretion of the instructor. A. Pop quizzes based on reading material, lectures, power points, and videos. B. Unit Tests Based on chapters assigned in class. C. Projects You will be given guidelines and a scoring rubric to help you know what is expected for this assignment. D. Final Exam have the same value as quizzes.

Additional Resources & Supplies A. Calculator, scientific, TI-30 or equivalent B. Pens and pencils XI. Class Participation Policy & Student Conduct A. Texas State Technical College challenges students to be learners who assume responsibility for being a part of a community of scholars. Student presence and participation in the classroom is an important component of this challenge. Furthermore, as part of its mission, TSTC offers an education that prepares students for professional employment. Each student is encouraged to develop a professional work ethic that reflects responsibility, initiative, and teamwork. B. Students are expected to attend all classes. Students who are absent from class miss opportunities to contribute to the learning environment of the classroom and are developing patterns that will not be tolerated in the professional workplace. C. In light of the above, the student is responsible for all assigned course work and cannot be absolved of this responsibility. When enrolled in a particular course, the student is obligated to do all of the work assigned. Punctual and regular attendance is vital to the discharge of this obligation and absences, excused or not, do not alter this responsibility. D. Students whose absences exceed 15 percent (5 classes) of the scheduled classes and laboratories may receive an F for the course. E. Students late to classes will be automatic reductions of 10% of work done that day or other actions to be at the discretion of the instructor. (It is a disruption of the class to be late.) F. Student Conduct: 1. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and to dress in the appropriate attire for the class being presented. 2. Each student is expected to act responsibly and take the consequences for his/her action or inaction as appropriate. G. Classroom Etiquette: 1. An atmosphere of respect will be expected of all within the classroom. 2. Any open displays of prejudice, harassment, or discriminate against any person or persons because of age, race, religion, color, handicap, sex, physical condition, developmental disability, sexual orientation or national origin will not be tolerated and appropriate action will be taken. 3. Any student who disrupts the classroom will be asked to leave and will receive a zero on all work due that day and will be counted as absent for the day. (Disruption is any distraction from the subject at hand)

A second disruption by that student will be grounds for the student to be administratively dropped from the class and other disciplinary action will be taken as appropriate. 5. Cell phones will be turned off or on vibrate. If you must answer you cell quietly exit the room. Over use of this could result in having cell phone turned off. Laptops will be closed and/or turned off when class is being conducted unless laptop is being used in class. 6. There will be no smoking, dipping, chewing tobacco or use of profane language in the classroom. H. Cheating / Plagiarism Policy: TSTC expects all students to engage in scholastic pursuits in a manner that is beyond reproach. Students are expected to maintain complete honesty and integrity. Any student found guilty of scholastic dishonesty is subject to disciplinary action. Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating on academic work (such as copying, bribing, or buying/selling tests), plagiarism (claiming another s work as one s own without acknowledgement INCLUDING Internet data), and collusion (unauthorized collaboration). See College Catalogue for additional information. XII. Safety All students in this course will comply with all general safety rules, which apply to the type of activity in progress in each class. Violation of course safety rules can result in grade penalties and/or other appropriate disciplinary action. XIII. Special Needs If you are a student with a disability and would like to request special accommodations, please notify the Counseling Office. Requests should be made before the 12 th class day to receive special accommodations for the present semester. Proper documentation of your disability will be required.
