1 Monday October 15, th Grade AVID EQ: What is the difference between active and passive voice? Relevance: so that I can understand and utilize active and passive voice in writing assignments as appropriate Literacy skill: Active and passive voices DI Strategy: T-Charts, Partner Work, 5 minutes Quick Write- Create a T-Chart with active activities on the left and passive activities on the right. Share Out (examples active: hiking, fishing, dancing, passive: napping, sitting, listening to music) 20 minutes Active vs. Passive Voice Activity- Count students off as 1 s and 2 s. Partner 1 s with 2 s. 1 s are active and 2 s are passive. Call out commands for the Active person to complete and passive person does nothing. Ex: Pat your partner on the back, shake your partner s hand, give your partner a compliment, elbow bump your partner, say goodbye to your partner, all students return to your seats 5 minutes Clarify Active vs. Passive- Display the transparency and have students read out the active/passive ask what they notice about the sentences on the right 10 minutes A Day in Tutorial - Pass out A Day in Tutorial. Students read the text and look for passive and active sentences. Use different colors to hi-light 5 minutes Homework: TRF Exit Pass: What is one way you became better at writing questions for your Cornell Notes

Relevance: So that I can refine the 10 steps of the tutorial process Literacy skill: Listening, speaking, questioning DI Strategy: Tutorial ** TUTORS ** 5 minutes Quick Write: Answer the Essential Question 30 minutes Tutorials: Have students go through the tutorial process. Reflection-Have students reflect on the handout regarding the progress in meeting the focus area goal/action plan in today s lesson. 5 minutes Reflection/Exit Pass: What is one compliment you can give about Tutorials? One complaint?

Relevance: so that I can discuss current articles Literacy skill: Reading for understanding, speaking, listening DI Strategy: Socratic Seminar 5 minutes Quick Write- How can we conduct a conversation on controversial topics and still be understanding of others feelings? 10 minutes Reading the Articles 25 minutes Socratic Seminar- Have students discuss the article during a Socratic seminar Exit Pass: What was something new you learned?

Relevance: so that I can understand and utilize the 10-Step Tutorial Process Literacy skill: Writing, speaking DI Strategy: Tutorials ** TUTORS** 5 minutes Quick Write: What did you do over the weekend? 15 minutes Binder Checks and Cornell Note Check- Students and tutors will conduct binder checks and check Cornell Notes. Students are required to have five Cornell Notes 15 minutes Tutorial Groups: Review the initial question Have students being doing basic tutorials using the TRF and practicing the 10-Step Tutorial Process Exit Pass: What question do you still have about your initial question?
