4 ENG English and Interviews Presentation of Scored Activity 2 Evaluation of competency: Uses language/talk to communicate and to learn Broad Areas of Learning Subject Area Family of Situations Course Program Goal Authorized materials Evaluation tool Media Literacy Health and Well-Being Languages Seeking and imparting information English and Interviews English Language Arts Demonstrate ability to be an effective interviewer English-English dictionary Course notes Computer with internet access Evaluation: Criterion-referenced rubric Excellent Very Good Good Weak Very Weak Time allotted 60 minutes Assessment: 60% overall = Pass Retakes: The adult learner must retake each part of the examination separately. This part satisfies the oral requirement of the course. The awareness of the effects of interview techniques in media culture is the foundation for carrying out the role-play situation in which the adult learner demonstrates the ability to be an effective interviewer. The adult learner plans the interview by choosing the interviewee (sports figure, politician, actor, activist, etc.) and by preparing questions, techniques, strategies, etc. In this role-play situation the teacher is the interviewee. Source: English Language Arts: Definition of the Evaluation Domain (DED) for Certification and Recognition. At the beginning of the interview, the student provides the audience with some contextualizing information on the interviewee or the topic explored. The student attempts to establish some sort of rapport with the interviewee, both before and while asking the questions they prepared. In addition, the student interjects spontaneous questions to encourage the interviewee to elaborate further. Finally, the adult learner indicates to the interviewee when the interview is over and thanks him/her for participating. Source: English Language Arts: Program of Study 4 SOFAD
