3 National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership: NPQSL November June 2018 The National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership is a nationally accredited programme delivered by trained facilitators from the SWAN Teaching School Alliance. The newly reformed NPQSL is for those who are, or are aspiring to become, senior leaders within a school. The programme incorporates a blended approach to learning comprising of face to face sessions, personal reflection and learning using online materials, and work place learning. In addition to the face to face sessions and online learning, the course will provide a 360 diagnostic tool and participants will be required to work with a school based coach during the course. Participants will also need to complete and submit an assessment focused on improving efficiency and effectiveness of teaching and pupil progress within their school. The course consists one full day and one half day session Thursday 9th November pm Thursday 22 nd February pm This Course will lay the foundation for a successful career and inspire ideas on how to be a positive influence on the lives of young people in their care. The course is facilitated by experienced School Leaders from the Northampton Town and County Teaching School Alliance and the SWAN Teaching School Alliance. 6 Outstanding Teacher Programme: OTP January 2018 March 2018 OTP provides teachers rated as good with a set of skills and strategies that enable them to become consistently and sustainably outstanding. It is open to teachers with the potential and drive to deliver consistently outstanding lessons. This nationally recognised programme is accredited through the National College and offers an invaluable opportunity for teachers to acquire techniques and expertise resulting in enhanced classroom and pupil performance leading to higher standards across the school. The current application round for OPT is for the programme that will start in January Duration of the programme will be January - March One place is covered within your SWAN Teaching School Alliance SLA, additional places at charged at per delegate. The Aims: Develop a common Language to discuss teaching and learning Deepen the understanding of key aspects of outstanding teaching and learning Raise performance in the classroom, by encouraging creativity and developing more innovative practice. 7 Developing Teacher Programme DTP November December 2018 DTP provides developing teachers with in-depth coaching tailored to a self-assessment of their teaching. It provides opportunities to deepen their understanding of high quality classroom practice and teaching and learning. Participants improve their teaching through facilitated practice, observation of colleagues and working with live students. Supports a wider range of teaching activities, including: planning lessons, starter activities, plenary sessions, questioning techniques, engaging in learning, challenging learning, assessment and differentiation strategies Forms part of the professional development provision or entitlement for staff development within the school s improvement plan Builds confidence of staff to become used to class observations and adopt a positive can do attitude. 8 Refresher Training for Designated Safeguarding Leads in Schools Monday 13th November pm This full day course meets the statutory requirements of the two-year Refresher Training for Designated Safeguarding Leads in schools. As part of the arrangements, which must be in place as required by S.175/S.157 of the Education Act 2002 and Keeping Children Safe in Education all schools, must have a member of the leadership team as their Designated Safeguarding Lead. This person must take lead responsibility for dealing with child protection issues, referring concerns of significant harm, providing advice and guidance to support all staff to carry out their safeguarding duties, overseeing the school provision of early help and liaising with other agencies as required. The Designated Safeguarding Lead must receive training which gives them the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil their responsibilities and this training must be updated every two years, in line with statutory requirements. Objectives: To consider the implication of national and local changes with regard to Safeguarding and Child Protection in schools; To recap the role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead in school; To revisit the categories and possible indicators of the 4 categories of abuse and consider areas such as Grooming, FGM, CSE, Forced Marriage, So-Called Honour Based Violence, Radicalisation and Extremism; To understand the impact of issues such as Peer-On-Peer Abuse, Domestic Violence, Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Mental Health problems on children/young people; To consider the learning for schools from local and national Serious Case Reviews; To reiterate the importance of interagency working from early help to referral; To recap the referral process to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub; To understand the requirements relating to keeping, transferring and archiving Child Protection and Early Help records. Lesley Pollard Lesley is an experienced teacher, trainer and adviser. She currently works as an Independent Learning Adviser (Lesley Pollard Learning) carrying out Safeguarding training and audits for a variety of providers as well as for individual schools. Lesley previously worked with the School Improvement Service, (Learning, Skills and Education) with Northamptonshire County Council for 13 years. Part of this role involved organising and running all the single agency training (and refresher training) for Designated Safeguarding Leads in schools. Lesley has also worked as an associate lecturer with the University of Northampton. Lesley is a member of the Northamptonshire Safeguarding Children Board Learning and Development Committee. 10 Subject Knowledge and Skill Enhancement for LSAs Supporting Maths in Secondary Schools Thursday 19 th October pm Overview Teaching assistants are crucial in the support of numeracy skills. This course will help teaching assistants to have a clearer understanding of what exactly numeracy is; learn how to support effectively; and discover how to encourage children to become independent learners. It will demonstrate how TAs can be used effectively for intervention.
