These concepts will be reinforced by hands-on experience both inside and outside of the classroom. 2 COURSE OBJECTIVES Explain the purpose, operation, and care of hardware components Identify the types of application software and explain their purpose or use Understand the basics of an operating system Explain file management techniques Explain the purposes, functions, and common features of: Word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, presentation software, and communications software Share data between programs STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Utilize Microsoft Windows and its file management capabilities Utilize Microsoft Internet Explorer to use the Internet for research Learn how to utilize Utilize basic features of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access LESSON PROCEDURES 1. Copy the chapter folder from the CD-ROM or Student S drive to your flash media before you begin working on the chapter. 2. Read chapter and complete the chapter activity exercises. The chapter activities do not need to be handed in, but are for you to learn how to do the assigned task. 3. At the end of each chapter, do the Knowledge Check questions. 7 TESTING PROCEDURES There will be a midterm and a final. Both the midterm and the final will be timed. The Midterm will be timed for one hour and a half; final will be timed for two hours. Each final is worth 200. There are two parts to the midterm and final a written and a production section. The written part, is closed book, and may be multiple choice, true/false, matching terms with definitions, etc. The production part of the test will have you create, modify, save, and/or print documents. EVALUATION & GRADING STANDARDS EVALUATION Evaluation of ability to meet the course objectives will be as follows: Completion of daily work and textbook reading assignments Completion of all examinations Random online extra credit questions so keep watching GRADING STANDARDS See the Recap Sheets in this handout for the required daily work, reading material, tests, and the point value for each.
