If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won t amount to anything -Abraham Lincoln A successful high school athletic program requires the coordinated efforts of many people (Administrators, Coaches, Support Staff, and Athletes). In order to minimize the miscommunication and avoid the pitfalls associated with assuming too much, Coach Harnett has compiled this policy and procedures manual for your benefit. Please familiarize yourself with these policies and procedures, you will be held accountable. Saint Charles Lacrosse It is a privilege, not a right, to have the opportunity to play lacrosse at St. Charles Preparatory School. This is a very important concept. We should never take this opportunity for granted. The Peaks and Valleys shared with teammates will enhance your high school experience and hopefully mold the foundation of friendships that last a lifetime. Inherent with the privilege of being an athlete at St. Charles comes a certain degree of responsibility. The guidelines are very simple. Handle yourself well, use good judgement, respect the rights and property of others and never do anything that will reflect negatively on: yourself, your family, your high school institution, The St. Charles Lacrosse Program, or your St. Charles teammates. Pride is key. Have enough pride in yourself and St. Charles Lacrosse to do the right thing. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Player Image SAINT CHARLES PREPARATORY SCHOOL LACROSSE You have an obligation to your school, coaches, teammates, and yourself to project an image compatible with your position in life. Presently that position includes being a student-athlete at St. Charles Preparatory School. Several points should be considered when projecting the kind of image deemed proper for a student-athlete. The following items are given to you as helpful reminders, having taken into consideration the fact that no two people are alike. APPEARANCE: This is one area that is very important since first impressions are often the lasting impression. You only have one change to make a first impression.

2 1. Take hats off when talking to administrators, coaches, and professors. 2. Pay attention when traveling as a team. Class A: Shirt & Tie, dress pants, dress shoes, socks Class B +: Button down shirt, dress pants, dress shoes, socks Class B: Golf/collared shirt, dress pants, dress shoes, socks Class C: Team sweats or shirts, flops or sneakers 3. It is an honor to wear the Cardinal uniform. Do not wear any opponents shirts, shorts, or hats in or around our family! MANNERISMS ON AND OFF THE FIELD A good rule to abide by in this area is: Never do anything that will be embarrassing to your school, coaches, teammates, family, and most of all yourself. Being an individual who is in the public eye for the majority of the year, you should always have this in mind. Learn to be humble winners and gracious losers. With Pride and Enthusiasm, you will soon find there is fun in humility. Give 100%, 100% of the time - on the field, in the classroom, at home, and in your community Accept responsibility for your actions Lead courageously and live with integrity Act with respect and empathy for others Live as a role model for those around you Commit to success in the classroom It takes less time to do the right thing, than to explain why you did it wrong WHAT THE COACHES EXPECT FROM YOU 1. Strive to excel on and off the field. Work diligently to complete the St. Charles Academic requirements. 2. To be a winner. 3. To play to the maximum of your potential at all times, practice and games. 4. To be honest with all of your dealings. DO NOT LIE, CHEAT, OR STEAL, NOR TOLERATE THOSE WHO DO. 5. To be loyal to your coaches, administrators, teammates, and school.

3 WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE COACHES 1. To be honest and loyal in all of our dealings. 2. To provide leadership and training necessary to achieve our/your goals 3. To provide you with the opportunity to develop your physical and metal skills commensurate with your abilities. 4. To make all decisions predicated on what is best for the team and then what is best for the individual ST. CHARLES CARDINAL LACROSSE RULES We have very important yet only a few team rules. However, these must be followed if you hope to remain a member of the St. Charles Lacrosse Family and if we hope to attain success. 1. Do one to others as you would have done to yourself. The Golden rule! HUMILITY! 2. Be loyal to each other at all times (this does not mean that you are best of friends with your coaches and all of your teammates. It means that you will always stand with pride next to each and every team member). 3. Be honest in all of our dealings (no matter how difficult this is). Do not lie. 4. Always place your team ahead of yourself. Choosing otherwise can lead to loss of the privilege of wearing the Cardinal uniform. Cardinal Lacrosse The coaching staff anticipates intense competition at each position, consequently we feel that is is important for you to understand how we will evaluate the players to determine the starters, back ups, and post season team. The following criteria will be used for evaluation: 1. Team attitude 2. Hustle 3. Knowledge of assignments 4. Mental and physical toughness 5. Talent 6. Academic performance and practice attendance

4 Team Attitude: The player who puts the team before self is more valuable to the success of our program than the selfish player. The individual who motivates his teammates to do better and is always enthusiastic and ready will make a greater contribution than one who does not possess these qualities. Everyone can be a team player. Be enthusiastic and positive! Hustle: Everyone will be expected to hustle throughout the practice sessions. Your teammates will give 100% and they will expect the same from you. Hustle has nothing to do with talent. It does not take a great player to hustle, but all great players hustle. Knowledge of Assignments: A player who makes mental mistakes in practice is telling us that he is not ready to play in a game when his teammates are relying on him to perform up to his capabilities. We cannot play people who do not know their assignments. Mental and Physical Toughness: Come to play everyday!! Lacrosse is a contact sport and it must be played with great mental and physical toughness. Everyone can hit! Talent: If the above four characteristics are equal, and they should be, then the player who has the most talent will be given preference. However, talent will not enter into our evaluation until we look closely at the first four qualities. Academic Performance: You are a student-athlete and are expected to commit yourself to success in the classroom. We expect that you attend all classes, show up prepared and on time, and remain in classes for their entire duration. Travel Our schedule necessitates a fair amount of travel. Remember, we represent St. Charles Preparatory School at all times. We will dress for comfort on long bus trips (Class B or C), however, proper dress (Class A) is required at all team meals, competition sites, or when instructed. We will try to keep class absences to a minimum, however, in the event of team travel that conflicts with class. Athletes will be excused from class and their professors will be notified.

5 You are required to make up any work missed due to team travel. Athletes are required to return to campus with the team following an away contest. No excuses, this is a team and a family, we travel as one. Do the right thing. Travel with an attitude of gratitude at all times. Always Be sure to thank your bus driver, hosts, hotel staff, and the opposing staff and their volunteers who may be hosting you. Equipment You are responsible for any equipment issued to you. Respect the property of others. Our staff will keep track of all items issued to you, you will be expected to sign a document that acknowledges your receipt of equipment. Equipment will then be handed in following the conclusion of our program. Athletes will be held accountable for any equipment items not returned. Training Room & Weight Room The training room and weight room are staffed by highly trained professionals. Be sure to follow all training room procedures. Be on time for any training sessions and plan your daily treatments so that you do not miss any practice time. Report any injury to the trainers and your coaching staff immediately. I, HAVE READ THE POLICES AND PROCEDURES HANDBOOK. I WILL DO MY BEST TO REPRESENT ST. CHARLES LACROSSE AND ST. CHARLES PREPARATORY SCHOOL AT ALL TIMES. I UNDERSTAND THAT FAILURE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS HANDBOOK MAY RESULT IN THE FORFEITING OF MY CONNECTION TO THE CARDINAL LACROSSE FAMILY. SIGNED DATE
