As research assistant I was responsible for gathering and analyzing data for faculty who were conducting research on various topics in the field of reading. I also worked with faculty on professional manuscripts and presentations for professional conferences. Spring 2014 Instructor for North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching. Taught a variety of professional development courses for K 12 teachers, administrators, and district personnel in North Carolina Middle Grades and Secondary Education Curriculum Coordinator for Cleveland County Schools. Developed and led professional development seminars in literacy strategies, content area reading and writing, professional learning communities, and instructional technology. Served as a literacy coach to teachers as they administered literacy assessments for students and accommodated diverse instructional levels within their classrooms. Assisted teachers in aligning their curriculum, instruction, and assessment with the Common Core State Standards and the North Carolina Essential Standards. Collaborated with school and district administrators to evaluate and advise new teachers and teachers placed on instructional action plans Media Specialist at Marion Elementary School. Collaborated with K 4 self contained classroom teachers to plan instructional units and support classroom instruction in a media/library class time. Selected and organized fiction, nonfiction, poetry and multimedia resources for student and teacher uses. Supervised and performed program evaluation of the Accelerated Reader Program and coordinated an after school parent student book club. Supervised the school s Girls on the Run program and recruited teachers from our school as running buddies English Language Arts Teacher Grade 6 at Burns Middle School. Implemented instructional literature circles, reader s and writer s blogs, and leveled word study, and in doing so, accommodated diverse Instructional levels within the classroom. Organized and hosted a bi weekly grade level parent student reading club. Served as the grades 6 8 English Language Arts Department 2

3 Chair. Supervised the Fit Females club and helped organize the Fallston 5k English Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher Grade 6 at Burns Middle School. Implemented social studies instructional literature circles and weekly virtual field trips with Internet workshops. Assisted in organizing the school s Cultural Arts Fair and Poetry Alive! Artists in residence program for Grades 6 8 students Self Contained Classroom Teacher Grade 5 at Underwood Gifted and Talented Magnet School. Taught math, science, social studies, spelling, language arts, and reading. Integrated reading and writing into all subject areas. Taught academically and gifted electives in all subject areas to grades 3 5 students. Led team of three fifth grade teachers in implementing a leveled word study program and guiding reading Groups, thereby accommodating the diverse instructional levels in our classrooms. Assisted in planning the school s Annual Magnet Fair and many PTA fundraisers Self Contained Classroom Teacher Grade 4 at Marion Intermediate School. Taught writing, science, and reading. Implemented the writer s workshop approach and in doing so, 100% of my students achieved a passing score on the North Carolina State Writing Test. Integrated reading, writing, and science on a daily Basis; developed and organized the school s first Science & Arts Celebration.
