8 3 Keys to the JHS Classroom Teachers want students to Thinking Deeply- emphasis on thinking. It requires students to analyze, discuss, evaluate and justify Integrated Learning- emphasizes learning across the disciplines (reading with math and social studies standards combined into one task) Showing How They Know- emphasizes proof and evidence, long gone are the days of multiple choice

9 ELA & Math Levels ELA Levels: 7A 7B 7C Intervention Math Levels: Accelerated Program Math A Math B Criteria: CAASPP Tests, STAR Math and Reading Scores, GPA and Teacher Evaluation are criteria for leveling in Language Arts and Math

10 ELA Common Core & Enrichment Level A and Level B Students will have one period of core curriculum and one period of a language arts Enrichment class. These Enrichment courses are designed to enhance English Language Arts skills.

11 ELA Core & Intervention Level C and Level D Students will have two periods ELA These courses are designed to bolster English language arts skills that are deficient.

17 Lockers and Textbooks Assigned lockers second week of school. You WILL probably have a problem with your locker at first. FILL OUT a Locker Request slip at the attendance window. You may go to your lockers between classes DON T BE LATE TO CLASS!

18 Lockers and Textbooks DO NOT share your locker or combination. Lockers are a PRIVILEGE and can be TAKEN AWAY! We have more students than lockers so BE GOOD!!! DO NOT share, lend, or borrow textbooks EVER!!! Students are responsible for lost or missing textbooks.

19 Cell Phones Yes, you are allowed to have a cell phone on campus, BUT, it must be OFF (not just on Pause)and out of sight at ALL times. If you have an emergency or need to talk to a parent you MUST use the SCHOOL PHONE!!! Use of cell phones for texting and/or cheating will result in disciplinary consequences and confiscation of the phone. These guidelines can be found in the student/parent handbook

20 Dress Code Issues: Boys Sagging pants are not permissible. ALL pants and shorts must be worn at the waist!

32 5 Keys to Wildcat Success Supplies be sure your student has binder, paper, pencils, headphones/earbuds, etc. Assignment Books need to be completed everyday Monitor Assignments have your child show you the assignments from the assignment book Check Grades Online Contact Teacher as needed

33 Enrollment/Emergency Card Must be Completed by Parents or Guardians Emergency Contact and Student Pick-up Information Medication and Health Issues Please Complete Both Sides of Card Sign the Card and Return with Course Elective Sheet to Teacher

34 Immunizations All incoming 7 th grade students MUST have a Whooping Cough Booster (Tdap) Get ASAP and Return to Elementary School
