1 Jimmie Tyler Brashear Elementary School [172] Division 1 KIMBALL FP KEY ACTION PROGRESS REPORT KEY ACTION 1 Promote a positive school culture focusing on a common vision mission and goals SCHOOL LEADERSHIP ACTIONS BLT will review the school action plan with school to get teacher/staff input before the start of school. BLT will review the plan with teachers and staff twice during the fall semester and twice during the spring semester. Require core beliefs to be written on 100% of staff professional development, training and meeting agendas beginning August, Brashear Leadership Team (BLT) will collect data on faculty/staff's understanding of the Core Beliefs and school priorities. Use data to create and present a minimum of two mini lessons/pd's on beliefs emphasizing (1) how beliefs affect behavior (2) how our Core Beliefs translate to results. BLT will develop a survey to collect data on faculty/staff understanding of the CB. 9/1/13 8/1/13 11/26/13 BLT will survey the faculty/staff on specific areas of growth for the school, i.e. what should we do more of, less of and continue doing; what are the top 3 priorities the school should focus on this year; and also what are the top three ways leadership can demonstrate support of the team. 9/30/13 BLT will complete a book study using the book The Speed of Trust by Stephen M.R. 11/1/13 Covey. BLT will provide faculty with bi weekly instructional feedback within 3 business day of SO. Principal will conduct monthly one on one or two on one meetings with support staff i.e. coaches, TA's, counselors, etc. BLT will meet weekly to discuss school progress, i.e. instruction(what are we seeing on our SO), culture (pulse of the campus (staff and student), parent engagement. Open each PD with a core belief activity. Post Core Beliefs in all common areas. 9/2/13

2 KEY ACTION 2 Provide quality professional development. SCHOOL LEADERSHIP ACTIONS BLT will calibrate spot observations. 9/18/13 Provide BLT with monthly feedback on a scale of 1 5 (with "5" being positive impact on my instruction and "1" being little or no impact on my instruction, there will not be a level "3"). BLT will participate in classroom walkthroughs to focus on one specific component of the instructional cycle, i.e. purposefully aligned instruction, hooks, closings, rigorous questioning, etc. to inform PD needs. BLT will provide faculty with bi weekly instructional feedback within 3 business days of conducting a SO or walkthrough. BLT provide PD over feedback and the role it plays in improving instruction. 11/1/13 BLT will create a PD calendar using input from teachers and staff, student 9/9/13 achievement data and climate survey data. BLT will survey the faculty and staff after every PD. BLT will provide PD over the "Transparent Teacher" model of teacher on teacher 11/1/13 feedback. BLT will create a feeback rubric for teachers to use to rate the quality of the feedback they receive. Provide PD over Balanced Literacy 10/28/13

3 KEY ACTION 3 Strengthen the Reading and Writing programs. (Good first instruction) SCHOOL LEADERSHIP ACTIONS Literacy and Math coaches will provide (or arrange for) on going PD on Student Engagement and Reading Instruction including the components of balanced literacy. First PD will take place by October 1, 2013 Literacy coach and Math coach will co create a PD on incorporating reading into the other content areas (Math, Science and Social Studies) and present to the staff by February 1, 2014 BLT will develop and present the grade level data meeting protocol to the faculty by November 1, A member of the BLT will attend 75% of all grade level data meetings. Literacy and Math coaches will develop a data tracker for teachers and scholars to use to track scholars' progress toward meeting predetermined benchmark and common assessment goals. BLT will create a schedule for additional benchmarks as needed in grades st PD by Oct. 1st 2/1/14 11/1/13 11/1/13 BLT along with facilitators will audit resources used for reading and writing. 9/16/13 BLT with teacher input will create instructional calendar for staff review and input. 8/16/13 BLT will work with BILT team to determine a school wide writing program. 9/16/13 BLT will schedule monthly content team meetings.

4 KEY ACTION 4 Reinforce the "college going" and career mindset. (Destination 2020) SCHOOL LEADERSHIP ACTIONS BLT display collegiate artifacts around campus by October 1, /1/13 BLT decide on a date for spring college visit by September 1, 2013; AP along with counselors finalizes details of spring college visit by December 1, 2013 BLT will decide on a date for spring Career Day by September 1, 2013; BLT along with counselors finalizes Career Day details by February 1, 2014 Designate the last Friday of the month as "College Friday". Teachers/staff/scholars are asked to wear college t shirts 12/1/13 2/1/14

5 KEY ACTION 5 Increase parent and community engagement and involvement SCHOOL LEADERSHIP ACTIONS BLT will host at least three parent meetings (Oct., Dec., Mar.) Create "Communication" Folders for each student. All communication from the office will go home on Thursday in the Communication Folder 8/29/13 BLT with teacher input will create an incentive program for students to encourage their parents to enroll in the parent portal and join and attend PTA meetings. BLT will issue a monthly school wide parent newsletter. BLT will designate a team to act as the community liaison for the school lead by the counselors. BLT will support the implementation and ensure compliance of STAND for Children program including supporting lostical needs. 9/2/13

6 School Action Plan STAFF ACTIONS 100% TW post core beliefs in their classrooms by COB September 2, /16/13 100% of TW participate in all campus wide surveys including district climate survey. Teachers and staff will attend and actively participate in all mini lessons (PD) presented by BLT, district representatives or BLT endorsed presenter. TW attend and actively participate in all scheduled feedback sessions with their observer. Teachers and staff will attend scheduled one or two on one meetings Teachers and staff will complete book study on Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson. 12/2/13

7 STAFF ACTIONS 100% of TW participate in all monthly in house feedback and/or climate surveys. Teachers and staff will attend and actively participate in all scheduled PD sessions. 100% of TW will participate in the Fall and Spring climate surveys. Dec./Mar. TW implement Transparent Teacher model and will engage in at 1 per semester Provide BLT with monthly feedback on a scale of 1 5 (with "5" being positive impact on my instruction and "1" being little or no impact on my instruction, there will not be a level "3"). Teachers and staff will attend and actively participate in scheduled data meetings. 80% of Teachers and staff will use data trackers to track academic progress in ELA, Math and Science by November 1, 2013; 90% by January 10, /10/14 Create common assessments that are aligned to ACP's and/or STAAR. Teachers and staff will meet in scheduled content teams (Math/Science and ELA/Social Studies). Teachers and staff will plan and host a spring 2014 literacy family night. Date TBD by 12/1/13; Plans finalized by Jan. 15, % of scholars in grades 2 5 will track their academic progress in ELA, Mah and Science. 10/2/13 11/1/13 Coaches along with TAG teacher will introduce a school wide writing program 10/1/13 Teacher with input from BLT will create additional benchmarks as needed in grades 2 5 Create common assessments that are aligned to ACP's and/or STAAR. Campus will implement Balanced Literacy including Guided Reading using Leveled Readers

9 STAFF ACTIONS 90% of TW display artifacts from their alma mater (or college/university of their choosing) on a designate "college wall" in their classroom by COB September 2, 2013; 100% by COB October 1, /1/13 Grades 3 5 will create a list of SAT vocabulary words scholars will learn by the end of the TW will consistenly make the connenction between college and careers in their day to day interactions with scholars. Teachers with scholar input will create chants, rituals, etc. that reflect support of their classroom's designated college. 10/1/13 10/1/13 Teachers and staff will support Spirit Friday by wearing college t shirts. Teacher with scholar input will create a wall of "dream jobs" 10/1/13

10 STAFF ACTIONS Send Communication Folder every Thursday. Promote incentive programs for students to encourage parent participation in the parent portal. Promote all school sponsored parent meetings. TW will support the implementation and ensure compliance of the STAND for Children program.
