4 P a g e 4 ABOUT OUR LADY'S CONVNT HIGH SCHOOL The school was founded in Amhurst Park in 1904 by the Servite Sisters. Our ethos therefore is derived from and based on Servite Values. Those values include openness and respect for diversity therefore, whilst many of our teaching staff are not Catholic or Christian, all staff appreciate the strength of the faith community to which they belong. All members of the school community are included in the holistic vision of evangelisation as shaping tomorrow, inspired by faith. Our Marian commitment to service provides a working climate that enables teachers to thrive in their work; our girls are engaged learners, teachers can enjoy practicing their craft and students have a desire to achieve and have personal ambition. We recognise the uniqueness of each individual student and have strong links between academic and pastoral systems to ensure that provision meets the needs of all students. ABOUT TH DSIGN TCHNOLOGY TAM Resistant Materials, Textiles and Graphics are taught to all students at KS3 preparing them with a foundation for further specialist study at KS4. At KS5 we offer 3D Design, Textiles and Photography. The department is well equipped with a laser cutter, 3D printer, heat press, embellisher, computerised sewing machines and a plotter cutter. The department consists of creative and enthusiastic teachers, all of whom facilitate a learning environment where students are supported and encouraged to take creative risks to achieve their full potential. We genuinely believe in preparing our students to become compassionate and caring citizens, aware of their global responsibilities. The school motto, found on our crest, is Nitendo Vincamus, which translates as Through our efforts, we overcome. It was with this in mind that the sisters of the Servite Order opened our school in Stamford Hill in 1904, providing educational opportunities for some of the girls of Hackney. Today, we still work with this in mind; to support our students, to work with them and for them, to remove barriers to achievement and to work together to enable success. 6 P a g e 6 OUR LADY S CONVNT HIGH SCHOOL Job Description: Class Teacher 1.Title Teacher 2. Grade Main pay scale range 1-6 or UPS in line with the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. 3. Purpose: to support the Catholic ethos and Servite values of the school; to take responsibility for the learning and achievement of all students in the class/es ensuring equality of opportunity for all; to uphold the school's aims and policies; to be responsible and accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct; to treat students with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher s professional position to work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with learners, parents/carers, governors, other staff and external agencies in the best interests of students; to take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of students and young people within the school; and to contribute to the process of school improvement. 4. Responsible to: Headteacher (delegated to member of Middle Leadership Team Head of Department or TLR post holder) 5. Applicable contract terms This job description is to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of duties set out in that document so far as relevant to the post holder s title and salary grade. The post is otherwise subject to the Conditions of Service for School Teachers in ngland and Wales. 6. Duties All teachers are required to carry out the duties of a schoolteacher as set out in the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. 7 P a g e 7 Teacher Standards (2012). Teachers performance will be assessed against the teacher standards as part of the appraisal process as relevant to their role in the school. It may be modified by the Headteacher, with your agreement, to reflect or anticipate changes in the job, commensurate with the salary and job title. 7. Relationships The post holder is responsible to the Headteacher in all matters. a) The post holder is responsible Head of Department in respect of curricular matters and the Head of Year in pastoral matters. b) The post holder also interacts on a professional level with colleagues and seeks to establish and maintain productive relationships with them and to promote mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school. 8. Particular Responsibilities The particular responsibilities attaching to the post of Teacher are as follows: a) to teach, according to their educational needs, students assigned in the allocated classes; b) to control and oversee the use and storage of books and other teaching materials provided for class usage; c) to maintain behaviour in accordance with the rules and behaviour management systems of the school; d) to contribute to Department meetings, discussions and management systems necessary to co-ordinate the work of the Department and integrate this into the work of the school as a whole; e) to promote equal opportunities within the school and to seek to ensure the implementation of the school s equal opportunities policy; and f) to carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Headteacher. 9. Key Tasks The key tasks relating to the post of Teacher are as follows: a) Teaching and Learning: 1 to deliver the curriculum as relevant to the age and ability group/subject/s taught; 2 to be responsible for the preparation and development of teaching materials, RCRUITMNT INFORMATION PACK 2016 OUR LADY'S CONVNT HIGH SCHOOL

8 P a g e 8 teaching programmes and pastoral arrangements as appropriate; 3 to be accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of students ; 4 to make accurate and productive use of assessment to secure students progress; 5 to use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons; 6 to set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding students have acquired as appropriate; 7 to give students regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage students to respond to the feedback, reflect on progress, their emerging needs and to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study; 8 to be aware of students capabilities, their prior knowledge and plan teaching and differentiate appropriately to build on these demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how students learn; 9 to have a clear understanding of the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs; gifted and talented; AL; disabilities; and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them; 10 to demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy including the correct use of spoken nglish; and 11 to participate in arrangements for examinations and assessments within the remit of the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. b) Behaviour and Safety: 1 to establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment for students, rooted in mutual respect and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly; 2 to manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to students needs in order to inspire, motivate and challenge students; 3 to maintain good relationships with students, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary; 4 to be a positive role model and demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour, which are expected of students; 5 to have high expectations of behaviour, promoting self-control and independence of all learners; 6 to be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school, raising any concerns following school RCRUITMNT INFORMATION PACK 2016 OUR LADY'S CONVNT HIGH SCHOOL

9 P a g e 9 protocol/procedures; and 7 to carry out playground and other duties as directed and within the remit of the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. c) Team working and collaboration: 1 to participate in any relevant meetings/professional development opportunities at the school, which relate to the learners, curriculum or organisation of the school including pastoral arrangements and assemblies; 2 to work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues and sharing the development of effective practice with them; 3 to ensure that colleagues working with you are appropriately involved in supporting learning and understand the roles they are expected to fulfil; and 4 to take part as required in the review, development and management of the activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the school. d) Professional development: e) Administration: 1 to regularly review the effectiveness of own teaching and assessment procedures and its impact on students progress, attainment and wellbeing, refining approaches where necessary responding to advice and feedback from colleagues; 2 to be responsible for improving own teaching through participating fully in training and development opportunities identified by the school or as developed as an outcome of your appraisal; and 3 to proactively participate with arrangements made in accordance with the current Appraisal Regulations. 1 to register the attendance of and supervise students, before, during or after school sessions as appropriate; and 2 to participate in and carry out any administrative and organisational tasks within the remit of the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. f) Fulfil wider professional responsibilities: 1 to work collaboratively with others to develop effective professional relationships; 2 to participate evaluation activities such as observation, feedback and scrutiny of learners work; 3 to deploy support staff effectively as appropriate; 4 to communicate effectively with parents/carers with regard to students RCRUITMNT INFORMATION PACK 2016 OUR LADY'S CONVNT HIGH SCHOOL
