2 THE SCHOOL DAY The school day is very busy! This is what happens Registration in Tutor Rooms Your Form Tutor will be with you for this time each day. During this time these things will happen: 8:30-8:50 Register is taken on the computer Messages are read out Notes for absence are handed in Planners are checked Uniform is checked Attendance and Behaviour are discussed On a Monday, Year 7 will have an assembly during this time 8:55-9:55 Period 1 10:00-11:00 Period 2 11:00-11:20 BREAK During Break you can go to the Restaurant or Pronto to buy some food or sit with your friends on the benches outside. This is also a chance to see your teachers if you need to speak to them. 11:20-12:20 Period 3 LUNCH 12:20-1:05 You can buy hot and cold food from the Restaurant or Pronto. You can sit in the Restaurant or at picnic benches around school to eat. You can choose to go to the Library, take part in clubs or activities or you may be asked to spend time with teachers completing work. Year 7 will have their own area to play football. In the summer you are allowed on the field to play or sit and chat. 1:05-2:05 Period 4 2:10-3:10 Period 5 At 3:10, it is time to go home or you may stay behind to join in some extra-curricular activities. A list of these will be in your form room. The Library will be open till 4:00 should you wish to complete some homework. You may be asked to spend time with teachers completing work or homework you should have done at another time. Buses leave from the front of school at 3:15.

3 WHAT TO DO IF? There will be times that you may need some help. Here are some things to help you If I am late? Go to the student hatch and sign in If I have lost something? Go to the student hatch If I feel ill? Tell your teacher who will sign your planner, then go to the student hatch. If I am absent? Your parents/carer needs to Ring or the school every day you are absent before 8:30am. Bring in a note to your form tutor when you come back to school. 6 TRANSPORT Many of you will be walking or cycling (you must wear a helmet) to school but some of you will be using the bus. Here is what you need to know. Bus services for Reading and Bracknell: Bus number: 190 For Reading (left or right out of St Crispin s) For Bracknell (left out of St Crispin s and cross the road at the crossing) Buses are approximately every 20 minutes. More details at: Bus service for Finchampstead: Route 39 (You must have a bus pass to board the bus) Catch the bus outside school at 3.20pm There are two buses, 39A and 39B. More details can be found at Trains The train station is a 10 minute walk from St Crispin s. Turn left out of the school and walk towards the town centre. Trains to Reading and London Waterloo (for Bracknell)

7 WHERE CAN I GET FOOD? One of the most important questions I know you really want the answer to. Food can be purchased at Break (11:00-11:20) and Lunch (12:20-13:00). If you would like something quick, such as a sausage roll or biscuit, you can visit PRONTO which is between English and Science. If you would like more choice, to have a full hot meal, sandwich, salad or soup, you can visit Dean, our Head Chef, in the Restaurant. 9 WHAT DO I NEED ON MY FIRST DAY? Over the summer, you need to ensure you get the essentials you need for your first day. Here is a handy checklist. Item Black/Blue Ink Pens (Make sure you buy a few) HB Pencils Colouring Pencils Pencil Case Ruler Compass Protractor Pencil Sharpener Rubber Scientific Calculator School Bag These items can be bought from all stationery shops or supermarkets such as Tesco or Sainsbury. My advice is not to buy the cheapest as you will be sharpening your pencil a lot!!

11 ACTIVITIES OVER THE SUMMER To save you getting bored over the summer, we have put together some activities for you. If you do not use your brain during the summer you will find it hard to settle to work when you start school in September. The following pages of work are to be completed during the summer holiday, wherever possible without help from parents. If you bring these completed to Mr Blyth in September, you will win the golden ticket.

20 IMPORTANT BITS Here is some useful information and an extra thing you could do over the summer Entering School There are two entrances for you to enter the school. You cannot use the main reception. To the left of the tower into the Black Corridor To the right of the tower Cycling to school If you cycle into school, you must wear a helmet and bring a lock. Your bike must be taken to the bike shed which is locked between 8:40am and 3:00pm Send your tutor a post card Whilst on holiday this summer write a post card to your tutor. These can be used to decorate your tutor noticeboard the first week back. You will need to report to the GYM.

21 IMPORTANT BITS Timetables At the start of each year you will be given a timetable that tells you what subject you have each lesson, where the lesson will be taught and the initials of the teacher who will teach you. You will be expected to copy it into your planner and to follow it each day. Homework Homework is an important part of your education. We will give you a timetable for your homework for each day. The work may be finding out information, answering questions or finishing what you have been doing in a lesson. You must organise your time to make sure you get the work finished to give in on time. The best time to do homework is in the evening of the day it is set. For most subjects, you can use a computer to do the work and your parents can help you if necessary. If you use a computer you can cut out the work and stick it into your book. If you need to use a computer you can go to the Library at lunchtime or after school where there are computers you can book. Money and valuables You do not need to bring money to school as you will be given a cashless card to use in the restaurant. If you bring a mobile phone into school it must not been seen out when you are in a building. MP3 players or computer games should not be brought to school as these are too valuable and may get damaged. Learning Support The Learning Support Department helps a lot of students. Some students need regular help. You can go to Learning Support if you would like somewhere quiet at break and lunchtime. The Learning Support Assistants support students in the classroom and they also help everyone, especially on school trips.
