Description: In alignment with the Massachusetts World Languages Framework and the Boston Public chools World Languages Citywide Learning tandards, the French 1 course is designed to allow students to complete all stage 1 activities in the six areas of the city curriculum: culture, connecting, listening, speaking, reading and writing. tudents are expected to perform with confidence in tasks of increasing difficulty. Texts and Materials: DF Bleu (Vallette et Vallette) textbook, with supplemental audio, video, and workbook Videos in French with subtitles: Les Aventures Incroyables d Adèle Blanc-ec (Luc Besson) Various teacher-generated ancillary materials based on: newspapers, internet, film, poetry, and literature, as appropriate: (i.e. mémoriser poème: le Pont Mirabeau, de Guillaume Apollinaire) Required Products: the French Interactive Notebook, thematic projects: carte de France, qui je suis, drapeau/nationalité trands: peaking: Learn and practice correct pronunciation, greetings, likes, and dislikes, questions. Listening: Become increasingly comfortable recognizing phrases and questions in French; be able to hear and write correctly with increasing difficulty. Reading: Learn steps to use cognates, the French dictionary, and context clues to understand thematic texts in French Writing: Use dictation to match words and phrases with correct spelling, accents, and conventions to write clearly and correctly Culture: Explore the geography of France and French-speaking countries throughout the world, discover Paris Connections: Discover the roots of French in English, the uses for French in post-secondary education and in professional life; recognize French and English cognates to build comprehension. Description: In alignment with the Massachusetts World Languages Framework and the Boston Public chools World Languages Citywide Learning tandards, the French 3 course is designed to allow students to complete all stage 1 and 2 activities and some of stage 3 activities in the six areas of the city curriculum: culture, connecting, listening, speaking, reading and writing. tudents are expected to perform with confidence in tasks of increasing difficulty. It assesses accuracy but emphasizes conversational proficiency. tudents grades will be determined, in whole, by their academic performance on a variety of proficiency tasks and assignments including: - dictée (the ability to correctly write in French what one hears) oral tests and tasks such as responding orally to a variety of stimuli written grammar tests, written compositions, and written responses to picture cues demonstrating aural comprehension through movement, drawings, and following of directions. reading and reciting aloud Most Important Key Questions: Choose a French poem to illustrate, analyze, and teach to the class in French After reading le Bossu de Notre Dame (or le Petit Prince) in class, pick a quote from the book and illustrate it.
