4 Instructions / Expectations This work packet is your guide for the second half of the India Unit in Global Studies. Some of it this packet will be review, other parts will be new, and lastly, this work packet will serve as a study guide for the India Unit Common Assessment. How wonderful is this? You are getting the study guide early! Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity. Your goal is to have this work packet completed by Tuesday, November 27 th. This means, you have from now until after Thanksgiving Break to finish this packet. Right now, this may seem like plenty of time, and you will be tempted to put off the work. However, if you start working on this right away, there will be no homework for the Thanksgiving Break. Do not let this work packet overwhelm you. If you pace yourself and finish a section one section per day, it can certainly be done by the due date. This assessment is meant to prepare you for the India Unit Common Assessment. There will be no exceptions for late work. All work packets will be collected no later than the end of the day on November 27 th. Grading This work packet will be graded when turned in. To ensure a good grade, be sure that you give thought-provoking answers. This is not material to be rushed through or forgotten. This work packet is directly connected to the information you need to know for this unit. Rubric Grade Completion Accuracy Work packet is complete and has at least partial of the review completed. Work packet is complete. The review section has not been started. Work packet is partially completed. Work packet is substantially lacking. Answers are thoughtprovoking and show effort to recall or argue an accurate answer. Answers are complete but have the occasional mistake. Answers are often missing or lacking accuracy. 5 British Rule British rule began with the heavy influence of the British East India Company. Use this portion of the work packet to review the British rule of India after the Mughal Empire. This information is in your Global Studies Textbook Chapter 27 Section 4 Page 791. Review Why is India named the Jewel in the Crown for Britain? Who are the Sepoys? Why are they important to the British East India Company? A rebellion between the Sepoys and Britain results in the Sepoy Mutiny. Explain what leads up to this rebellion. What reasoning does the Hindu and Muslim hired gunmen have to rebel? Document Analysis Look at the following document and answer the questions on the following page. 5 P a g e
