Key Tasks for Accelerated Math Renaissance Place Welcome Welcome to Accelerated Math Renaissance Place! This document explains how to do some of the key tasks in your Accelerated Math software the ones we think are most important to get you up and running with Accelerated Math. If you don t see instructions for a particular task you need, we invite you to use the online Help, which is found in the upper right corner of each page. There you ll find comprehensive instructions for all software tasks. Create an Objective List Before you can work with students (assigning objectives and printing assignments), you must create an objective list and link it to your class. You can choose objectives from any Accelerated Math library your school has purchased. 1. On the Assignment Book page, click Manage Objectives or Add Objectives. Welcome Get Ready Create an Objective List Reorder Objectives in an Objective List Print an Objective List Report Assign Objectives to One Student Assign Objectives to Multiple Students Preview and Print Assignments Reprint Assignments for One Student Reprint Assignments for Multiple Students Score Assignments With the Scanner Score Assignments Manually Rescore Print Reports Advance Your Implementation Set Student Goals Create a Team Set Add Teams to a Team Set Assign Students to Teams Click Create New List. (You can also click Select/Copy Existing List.) 1 Get Ready
3. Type an objective list name and click Next. (Note: As a teacher, you can share objective lists within your school and district if your administrator assigned you the Create School Accelerated Math Objective Lists and Create District Accelerated Math Objective Lists capabilities.) 4. Add an entire library (click Add All) or select individual objectives (click Add). As a new Accelerated Math user, we recommend that you start with one library. If most students are working on grade level, use the library for your grade. Then click Done. The Search function locates objectives by key word, such as measure on fraction, in all the libraries you own. This objective list contains all objectives in the Grade 3 library. 2 Get Ready
Reorder Objectives in an Objective List Some teachers find it helpful to align objectives in their Accelerated Math objective list with their curriculum, so as they teach lessons, they can easily print assignments that match the lesson. 1. On the Assignment Book page, click Manage Objectives. 2. Click Reorder. 3. Click Reorder by Objective. 4. Select objectives by checking the box next to the objective number. You can move several objectives at one time by checking multiple objectives. 5. Type a number in the blank next to the Move Up or Move Down button and click the button to move an objective up or down the objective list. To move an objective to a certain position in the objective list, type the position number in the blank next to the Move To button and click the button. Click Save when you finish. 3 Get Ready
Print an Objective List Report The Objective List Report shows every objective and its practice, test, and review criteria in your objective list. Print this report and make notes on it as you teach objectives. Or, you can post the report for students. 1. On the Assignment Book page, click More Reports You will see a list of all Accelerated Math reports. Click the Objective List report name to generate this report using the default settings. To customize this (or any) report, click Customize this Report. 3. Accelerated Math then generates the report as a PDF document and displays it in Acrobat Reader. Click the Acrobat Reader Print button to print the report. Click the Acrobat Reader Print button. 4 Get Ready
Assign Objectives to One Student Once you build an objective list, you can assign objectives to students. Accelerated Math shows you which objectives are available to assign. 1. From the Assignment Book, select a student by checking the box next to the student s name. 2. Click Assign. 3. Check the box for the objectives you want to assign. Move the slider control to go to a different part of the objective list. 4. Click Assign and Done. 5
Assign Objectives to Multiple Students 1. From the Assignment Book, select students by checking the boxes next to their names. 2. Click Assign. 3. Move your mouse over the number at the top of a column to see the objective and library name. Check the box for the objective you want to assign. 4. Click Assign and Done. To see the objective name, hold your mouse over the objectice number or see the obective names below the list of students 6
Preview and Print Assignments You can generate four different types of assignments for students: practices, exercises, and diagnostic and regular tests. 1. On the Assignment Book page, select students and choose the type of assignment you want to print (for example, Print Exercise). 2. After selecting the assignment type, you customize the assignment. Depending on the type, you can choose the objectives on the assignment, the number of problems per objective, the assignment size (small, medium, or large), and the answer format (free response or multiple choice). Click Print. 7
3. Accelerated Math then generates the assignment, and you can preview it in Acrobat Reader. (Note: The default is to not preview assignments. From the Renaissance Place home page, click Accelerated Math, Preferences, General to change the default.) Click the Acrobat Reader Print button to print an assignment. 8
Reprint Assignments for One Student If a student misplaces an outstanding (unscored) assignment, you can reprint it in Accelerated Math. 1. Click a student s name in the Assignment Book to go to the Student Detail page. 2. Click Reprint on the Student Detail page. 3. Choose to reprint the assignment with the original or different problems. 4. Click Reprint. 9
Reprint Assignments for Multiple Students You can also reprint an assignment for more than one student. 1. On the Assignment Book page, check the box next to the name of each student for whom you want to reprint an assignment. 2. Click Reprint/Delete. Click to reprint assignments for multiple students. 3. Choose the type of assignment you want to reprint. 4. Click Reprint. 5. Choose to reprint the assignment with the original or different problems. 6. Click Reprint. 10
Score Assignments With the Scanner If you have not installed the AccelScan software on the computers that will be used for scanning, please see the software manual for instructions or contact your technical support person. Click Download Manuals to view the software manual. 1. Verify that an AccelScan scanner is connected to the computer. If the scanner has a switch, make sure it is on. 2. To start the AccelScan software, follow the steps for your type of computer. Windows: Click Start Click Programs (or All Programs) Click AccelScan Scanning Software Click AccelScan Macintosh: Open the folder where the AccelScan Scanning software was installed Double-click AccelScan 3. The Log In page appears. Even if your students will score their own assignments, the teacher must log in first. Type your user name and password. 4. Then, click Log In. After a few moments, the Ready to Score screen appears. 11
5. If students are scoring their own work, click Student Mode at the bottom of the page. Scanning in this mode prevents students from changing program settings while they scan. 6. When you or your students finish scoring assignments, click Log Out. 12
Score Assignments Manually 1. Click Keyboard Score on the Assignment Book page. 2. Type the student s form number (printed on the assignment). 3. Click Score. 4. The Keyboard Score screen lists the problem numbers that appeared on the assignment. To score the assignment, type or click the student s answer for each problem (if the problems were multiple choice) or choose Correct or Incorrect (if the problems were free response). 5. Click Save. The assignment will be scored. 6. After you finish scoring all the assignments, click Done. Accelerated Math generates TOPS Reports for the scored assignments. 13
Rescore Sometimes, it is necessary to rescore a student s assignment. Rescoring assignments is a simple process. 1. On the Assignment Book page, click a student s name to go to the Student Detail page. 2. You can rescore any assignment in the Recent Assignments table. Find the assignment and click Rescore. 3. Click the student s answer for the problem(s) you wish to correct. 4. Click Save. 14
Print Reports Reviewing reports is your best way to monitor students work in Accelerated Math. The table on the Reports page lists the 25 Accelerated Math reports, many of which are customizable. The Diagnostic and Status of the Class Reports are listed separately, because these two reports are your most important tools for planning instruction and helping students. 1. Click Reports on the Home page or click More Reports... on the Assignment Book page. 2. Click the report name to view the report with the default settings or click Customize to change the default settings. Depending on the report, you may be able to choose the classes, students, the time period covered by the report, the information included, and how that information is grouped and sorted. 3. Accelerated Math then generates the report as a PDF document and displays it in Acrobat Reader. Click the Acrobat Reader Print button to print the report. 15
Set Student Goals Once you and your students are comfortable with Accelerated Math, we encourage you to set goals with students. Setting goals motivates students to do their best and take responsibility for their own learning. By setting goals and recording them in Accelerated Math, you can track your students progress on the Goal History Report. The Objective goal represents the number of objectives the student should master during the selected marking period. The Test % Correct goal is the student s average percent correct on regular tests and must be at least 85 percent. 1. On the Home page, click Teams & Goals. 2. Click Manage Goals. 3. The Manage Goals page lists students and goals for one class. Select the class and marking period for which you want to set goals. 16 Advance Your Implementation
