3 Trust the Process For the Year 11 students, we broke this down in to two parts Trust is about belief Believe in what you are capable of Believe in what we say Believe that you can overcome set back Its also about action Taking action, being productive Make the most of every opportunity It includes getting things wrong Learning from your mistakes

4 Trust the Process This year we mean business, off the back of an extremely successful careers week last year it felt like a good point of reference to use. The students all learned about the importance of looking professional, behaving professionally and being productive. This year approach every lesson with a professional attitude have positive relationships with adults and students in the school make only positive contributions conduct yourself professionally. using time wisely These are basics, daily habits. Being professional just means getting the basics right.

6 Brilliant Basics What we will be doing as a school: Ensuring students are aware of our high expectations in terms of appearance, behaviour and learning Helping students create their revision timetables Ensuring they know how to revise effectively

7 Brilliant Basics What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Ensure students come to school on time, with the right equipment and are ready to learn Ensure students are organised at home: Where are phones during revision and overnight? Where do students work? Is it quiet, well organised, away from distractions? Does your son/daughter have clear times for work and clear times to relax and turn off? Where will the revision timetable be displayed at home so everyone can see it? Ensuring students are healthy eating well, exercising, relaxing and getting 9 hours sleep a night

8 Vision Our vision is for all students in Year 11 to realise their potential.

10 Vision About 18 months ago, ahead of the Year 9 parents and options evening I spoke to you about the amount of support around your child to get them ready to sit their exams. I related to the F1 McLaren Team. The following is taken from Red Bulls website. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern f1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists, formula one is a team sport in a very literal sense that's why we love what we do. The same is true for us here. We are all working to equip your children with the techniques, subject knowledge, and coping strategies to be able to perform to their potential, we love working with your children. But ultimately it is the driver who completes the race, who shifts gears, to takes the lines in and out of turns. It is your child ultimately who has to revise, who has to demonstrate the exam techniques, utilise their learning. They sit the exam. Until race day however, until the start of the external exams there are ways we can help.

11 Vision What we will be doing as a school: Helping them to find their goals from the first day back. We will also be exploring goal setting in Prayer Carousels, Careers (Mrs Thompson will be interviewing each student) and Tutor Activities so we will ensure all students have their goals and are fixed on these. We will continue to deliver excellent teaching, revision and interventions to ensure they realise their potential. We know what works and we can be sure that they will have all the tools to help them achieve their potential.

12 Vision What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Discuss goals with your son/daughter: what do they want out of Yr 11? Where will their grades get them? Why are GCSES important? Perhaps discuss something that you have found hard, you haven t wanted to do but still did it to achieve the end goal Ensure your son/daughter has their goal written and stuck up somewhere where they can be reminded of it every day (the fridge? Xbox? Mirror? Phone charger!) Support and trust us!

16 Exam Preparation Excellent revision looks like: Clearly Timetabled: with days divided into Bronze/Silver/Gold days Active: the best form of revision has been found to be self testing and practice papers. Interleaved: not spending one evening on one subject, but revising a range of subjects every evening Deliberate Practice: Finding weaknesses and practicing getting better at those Using Specifications: Finding all the specifications of all the subjects and using these to organise revision Well organised and away from distractions

17 Exam Preparation What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Ensure your son/daughter has a revision timetable and uses it! Ensure revision is active and they are self testing and practice papers. Ensure your son/daughter has equipment needed e.g. index cards, pens, highlighters, past papers, revision guides Ensure distractions are minimised Communicate often!

19 Emotional Wellbeing What we will be doing as a school: Ensure every student has someone they can speak to at school about this Teach students strategies for relaxing e.g. mindfulness Communicate with you if we are worried Help students to deal with future plans e.g. Sixth Form Help keep students organised and goal-focussed so their stress reduces Teach students about resilience and how to deal with failure Offer mentors for those who need them,

A Revision timetable will help with this Ensure they have a method of relaxing mindfulness, music, art, walking etc Spend time together not talking about GCSEs/revision/work Ensure they exercise Ensure they get 9 hours sleep and are eating healthily

23 Autumn 1 This term we will be focussing on getting the Yr 11s back into routines, developing brilliant basics, setting goals and, alongside that, looking at 6 th Form. What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Help set the goal Discuss the importance of GCSEs for achieving life long goals Make sure the goal is written somewhere obvious Spend time discussing the best option for next year to ensure they feel confident in their decisions and can forget next year

25 Active Revision Autumn 2 This term will be moving towards Mocks. All HW will become Exam Preparation or Revision and this may be revising work in Year 10. What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Ensure the revision timetable is completed and on the fridge of similar Ensure the timetable reflects B/S/G may be worth discussing this beforehand: what days of the week would be good for you as a family to make Gold? What do they need to block out for family events or similar? How can you ensure that the revision at home is active: testing, practice papers, mindmaps, Leitner system etc? Ensure all resources are available Praise and reward when revision is completed Help students be resilient if revision isn t completed one evening, move on!

27 Active Revision Spring 1 This term will be a time of reflection on Mocks, revision and current working practices. Students may need to realign their vision, make changes and set new goals What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Help them reflect on their Mocks and their revision If Mock results are disappointing discuss failure and help to develop resilience! What can they do now to move forward? What have we learnt from failures or disappointments? Encourage deliberate practice where are the weaknesses that need to be practiced over and over again? Help them find their motivation again if needed

29 Active Revision Spring 2 This term will be gearing up to revision for the actual GCSEs kick started by our Revision day. This will be when students should be using all the key revision techniques and getting into excellent habits of revision What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Discuss different revision techniques what works, what doesn t. If they respond with rereading or similar, discuss this with them! Try out strategies with them Ensure they are creating revision resources to use for next term. Next term, all the revision resources should be completed and Summer should be spent solely in memorising these resources and completing practice papers Make sure they fail at things. They will need this resilience next term Discuss rules for next term Start revision properly at the beginning of Easter holiday.

31 Active Revision Summer 1 This term should be when all students are in excellent habits of revision; should have daily and weekly routines of testing and past papers as well as other revision techniques. This term can become overwhelming for some students, particularly those not in good habits or those who are perfectionists! What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Ensure they have down time Spend time with them away from work Think about sleep, exercise and healthy eating Let us know if you see anything worrying or if it is getting too much

33 Active Revision Summer 2 This term can be when students lose focus or become overwhelmed. We need to keep them future focussed and to remember what the point of this all is! What we would ask you to do at home as part of our partnership: Keep them motivated! Help them with revision when you can testing etc Spend time away from revision and GCSEs (but not too much!) Ensure they attend all lessons and revision sessions; there is a direct correlation in most subjects between those who attend these extra sessions and their results If you are not at home during the day; what are they doing? How do you know it is effective? Celebrate successes and each exam
