Reviewing Unit 1 s Chant Practice A 18 Have students make a new color by putting 2 different cellophane sheets together. Pick up red and blue. Put them together like this. What color do you see now? What color is it? It s purple. Let s put red and yellow together. What color is it? It s orange. Can we make green? Put blue and yellow together. What color is it? It s green. Put them over your eyes. What color do you see? E Listen and write the letter in the picture. Play Audio Track 19. Have students listen and write the letter of each color as they hear it. Great Wind Have students sit in a circle. Call out a specific color saying, A great wind blows for everyone who has (the specific color)! Have students who have the specific color stand up and wave their hands in the air as if they are blowing away. Repeat this activity until all colors of Unit 2 have been reviewed. A great wind blows for anyone who is wearing blue jeans! A great wind blows for anyone who has a black pen! A great wind blows for anyone who has anything pink! Color Magic Prepare 6 colors of paint(red, blue, yellow, white, black, and brown), and 6 transparent bottles. Add different colors inside the bottle caps. Pour some water into the bottles and put the caps on. Close the caps tightly. Shake the bottles and have students observe how the colors change. Today, I ll show you magic. What s in the bottle? What color is it? It s just clear water. But if I shake the bottle with a magical spell, what could happen? Abracadabra! Wow, look at this! What color is it? Yes, it s blue. My Name Tag Hand out name tags to the class. Have students write their names or the names of famous characters or celebrities they like on them. Fold the name tags and put them into a basket. Have S1 pick up a random name tag, and have Ss ask his/her name. Then have S1 introduce himself/herself using the name on the tag. T: Let s pick up name tags! You can go first! Ss: Hi, what s your name? S1: (picking a name tag) Hello, my name is Harry Potter! My Name Tag Divide the class into 2 groups. Have G1 ask, What color is it? and G2 answer, It s. Guessing Colors Review the names of colors with cellophane sheets. Pick up 2 different cellophane sheets and put them together. Show them to students and ask what color the 2 colors make. Look at this! What color is it? Yes, it s purple. What 2 colors make purple? Play Audio Track 27. Have students listen and place the correct stickers. Then have students match the stickers to the corresponding objects. Replay the audio and check the answers together What shape is it? It s a diamond. 2. What shape is it? It s a rectangle. 3. What shape is it? It s a triangle. D Look at C. Talk with a friend. Have students look at the pictures in Practice C. Have them practice asking and answering in pairs. An is used before words when the words start with the vowel sounds, a, e, i, o, and u. We say an oval! Be careful not to say a oval! The word oval starts with the vowel sound o! Shape Detective Draw or show an object which has a specific shape on the board. Have students find what shape it is and say it. Have students practice using the sentence patterns. Look at this shape! What is it? Who can tell me what it is? It s an orange! Yes, it s a circle! That s right! Clay Fun Divide the class into 2 groups. Prepare various colored clays. Give each group clay and have them make the shapes that the teacher calls out. The first group to make the shape and answer correctly gets a point. Make a blue circle! What shape is it? It s a circle. What color is it? It s blue. Yes, it s a blue circle. Good job! Shape Detective Ask students to look and find these shapes around the classroom. T: Where s a circle in the classroom? To review the sentence patterns in Unit 2 through a story C Read and check ( ). Read the directions together. Have students read the sentences and check the correct picture in the box. To practice a conversation by acting it out Check the answers together and ask about the other picture. T: (pointing to an oval clock) What shape is it? Ss: It s an oval! To understand colors as adjectives Read the directions together and have students look at the pictures. What shape is it? the sentence without speaking the target words. Ss: It s an oval! T: Right! Then what color is this oval balloon? Ss: It s blue! T: Yes, It is an (pausing intentionally) oval! Please say with the color! Ss: It s a blue oval! Story Scramble Divide the class in groups. Prepare some copies of the story page and cut the lines into strips. Give them to each group. Have each group arrange the strips in the correct order within a time limit. The first group to complete the story and read it correctly wins. Story Scramble Monkey Divide the class into 2 groups. Have G1 begin reading. When the teacher shouts, monkey, the reading switches over to G2. Shout out different words to confuse students. T: Tiger! I didn t say monkey, so G1, keep reading please. Colors and Shapes Give half of the students the color picture cards and the other half the shape picture cards. Call out a color and a shape at random. Have students who have the color and the shape stand up and say the sentence pattern. T: Red and circle! S1, 2: It s a red circle! Colors and Shapes The teacher takes the role of Teacher and students take the role of Boy 1 and Boy 2. Read the story following the assigned roles. Switch roles and repeat the activity. Show every frame randomly and have students guess the missing words for the blank by acting it out. If the group acts out the scene incorrectly, the other group gets a chance. Have students write the missing words for the blank on a piece of paper and raise them above their heads. Guessing My Shape Have students draw shapes freely on blank paper. Have them color the shapes with different colors. Then randomly choose one of the student s shapes and have students guess the shape and color. Repeat this activity until every student has a chance to guess and answer. T: What color is it? Ss: It s yellow. T: What shape is it? Ss: It s a square. T: Yes, it s a square. Can you say that in one sentences? Ss: It s a yellow square. Reviewing the Chant Divide the class into 2 groups. Write the lyrics on the board. Erase the colors and shapes in the lyrics. Play Audio Track 29. Have G1 fill in the colors and G2 fill in the shapes. After completing the lyrics, replay the audio and check the answers. Reviewing the Chant Assessment Evaluate if students understand the target words, sentence patterns, grammar points, and story. Use Unit Test 2 at the back of the Teacher s Guide. Unit Test 2 A Color the flowers and play a game. Have students color the flowers using a different color for each flower before playing the game. Then choose a game board randomly to play the game together. Divide the class into 2 groups. Have each group member play Rock-Paper-Scissors to move it s marker. The winning group moves its marker 3 spaces while the other group moves its marker one space. After G1 moves its marker, have S1 of G1 ask, What shape is it? or What color is it? and S2 of G1 answer, It s (a/an). according to the pictures shown on the spaces. Make sure that they use the articles properly. If they perform the dialogue correctly, the marker stays on the space. If not, the marker returns to the prior space. Unit 2 Can you say the colors and shapes? Reviewing the Story A Say the words. Use the picture cards of Unit 1 and Unit 2. Review each word showing the corresponding picture card one by one. Have students repeat after you. T: Look at this picture card. What is it? Ss: It s a notebook. Call out vocabulary words randomly. Have students repeat and point to the correct pictures. Making a Storybook Hand out copies of the story pictures and story strips to students. Have them cut the story pictures along the dotted lines and fold on the solid lines. Then, have students put the pages in the correct order, line up all of the pages neatly, and staple along the left edge. Help students cut the lines into strips and glue them to the correct speech bubbles. Have students fill in the speech bubbles and make their own storybook. Review Test 1 Replay the audio.
