Experiment with vocabulary when writing use a thesaurus. Write often - a journal, stories, poetry, songs etc
21 What students need to do English Students will be given an annotated copy of the exam with timings and strategies. To attain great grades, students will need to: Read widely and build their vocabulary; Use time well in the exam; Use the strategies we teach in lessons; Learn and apply their knowledge of language and structural features; Learn and apply literary terms (see the glossary); PROOFREAD!

26 What students need to do English Literature Learn the plot, themes, characters and major quotations from each of the texts Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls ; Learn the themes, analysis, different interpretations and major quotations of the Relationships poetry; Learn how to write answers up using embedded quotations and language analysis; Complete numerous essays and plans some under timed conditions.
27 Working together, succeeding together Provide a quiet space where your son/daughter can work; Help your child to draw up a revision timetable. Remember that students should study for no more than 1 hour at a time then have a break for 20 minutes. Help your child to stick to his/her revision timetable; Make sure your son/daughter uses a dictionary and thesaurus regularly to write pieces of work; Encourage your son/daughter to attend any extra classes on offer. There will be some after school and holiday revision classes timetabled and some students will be tutored by Year 12 and 13 students; Encourage your son/daughter to read widely. Discuss the texts; Help your son/daughter to organise class work into notes - provide revision cards/post it notes, paper, pens; Encourage your child to write every day. A diary is good for writing and for stress relief. Help your son/daughter to revise the lists of writing techniques; Help your child to learn and use literary terms; Help your son/daughter to learn spellings if spelling is an issue then it is beneficial to learn spelling rules and use the look, write, check method; Work with your child to complete some practice papers and read some exemplar answers on Moodle.
28 Working together, succeeding together Encourage your son/daughter to re read their texts and add to their annotations; Encourage your child to read around each text; Ensure that your son/daughter produces revision notes for each text one card for each theme and character in each text; Help your child to memorise some important lines and poetic devices from each text. Stick them up around the house! Test him/her; Encourage your son/daughter to complete some practise plans then essays then timed essays. Remind your child to proofread!
29 A Subject Case Study - Mathematics Edexcel Linear Mathematics Higher Tier (9-3) Foundation Tier (5-1) Papers are only taken in June 2019 although resits can be done in November 2019 Paper 1 Non Calculator Paper (1hour 30 mins) Paper 2 Calculator paper (1 hour 30 mins) Paper 3 Calculator paper (1 hour 30 mins) Each paper has an equal weighting
30 Further Mathematics Students in the top set will study the AQA certificate in Further Mathematics Challenging course with an opportunity to earn an A** Consolidates and extends A/A* GCSE topics in algebra, number and geometry Excellent preparation for students who are thinking of studying A level mathematics NB AQA are currently reviewing this qualification.

The Maths department would like to be able to revision advice and resources home but we need addresses for anyone not on parent mail!! Please send an to admin@broxbourne.herts.sch.uk if you want to be included and are not on parent mail. Revision Guides and CDs We will send a letter how shortly with an opportunity to purchase these at a significantly lower cost than in the high street.
