Teacher Login and Class Management While these apps have been designed for mobile devices, they work in conjunction with the web-based Teacher Resource Center (TRC). The TRC receives and records all results associated with a student profile. In order to perform class management actions you need to have a TRC teacher account. Once you have these login details, you can set up and manage classes from your mobile device. Student results will be automatically sent to the TRC once the device is connected to the internet. Teacher Login 1. When you start the Go Math! app, tap Settings on the upper right to go to the Class Management Login screen. If this screen does not appear, tap Class Management on the left. 2. Type your TRC username and password on the Class Management Login screen and then tap Submit. Once you have logged in, your username will appear on the upper left, beside a green light. 2

When you log into the app for the first time, the Class List screen appears. This provides high-level details of the classes that you have set up and any notifications you may have relating to your classes. To view details of a class, tap the class name. Retrieve a Password If you forget your password, take the following steps: 1. On the Class Management Login screen, tap Forgot Password? 2. On the Teacher Resource Center screen, type your address and tap Submit. 3. Check your and follow the instructions to reset your password. 3

Log Out To log out, tap your username, on the upper left. When the message appears asking Are you sure you want to log out? tap Log out. 4

Managing Classes This section describes the class PIN and explains how to do the following tasks: Add a class Add students to a class Remove students from a class Add authentication codes Accept or decline students Use system passwords Class PIN A class PIN is an identification number unique to every class within the TRC. When you set up a class, a PIN will automatically be generated. Students can then use this number to download the class details to a device. There are two points where a student may enter the class PIN: initial setup and regular sign in. Initial Setup If a device has not been used in the class previously, the student will have to access the app settings and select the Student tab on Class Management screen. Once the student enters the class PIN, the student list will appear. Regular Sign-in If a device has previously been used in the classroom, the student taps Sign In on the upper left. If the student cannot find the class on the list of classes presented, he or she taps My class is not here. This will prompt the student to enter the class PIN. Once the student has done this, the class details will be downloaded from TRC. Once you register a student, a temporary password is created. You will need to give this to the student so he or she can log in. The student will be prompted to change the password after initial sign in. 5

Add a Class When you use the app for the first time, you need to add a class. When you first log in, the Class List screen will be empty. 1. Tap Add Class. 2. On the Create Class screen, enter a Class Name. 3. To change your photo for this class, tap the Teacher Picture image. Select an image from the photo library on your device. This photo will help identify your class to students and is particularly useful with younger students who may have difficulty recognizing the class name. 4. For Student password level, tap Medium or Complex to set the password complexity. Medium-level passwords can contain any combination of letters and numbers and are a minimum of four characters long. These are recommended for Grades 2 6. Complex-level passwords must contain at least six characters and one special character. These are the most secure passwords. 5. For Authentication Code, enter a code for the class. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will have supplied your school with these codes. An authentication code licenses students in your class to use the learning content. Authentication codes will grant access to a fixed number of user licenses. After creating your class, you can add more authentication codes, if required, on the Class Setup screen. 6. Enter a numeric value for the Auto Logout Time. This value sets the maximum time in minutes that a student s device can remain inactive before the student is automatically logged out of the app. 7. Tap Create Class. The class is created and the Class Setup screen appears. You can remove a class, enter additional authorization codes, and add students to the class. 6

Add Students to a Class 1. On the Class setup screen, tap Add Student. 2. Type the First Name and Last Name for the student, and then tap Submit. Repeat this process to add another student. Repeat as many times as necessary to add all students to the class. Note: Each student s name must be unique in the class. For example, if there are two students called Mark Jones in your class, you can only enter one of them as Mark Jones; you must give the other student a unique alternative such as Mark A Jones. When you add a student, the student s name appears on the list of students and a set of icons appears in the Options column. 7

The icons in the column after the students names perform the following actions: Action Icon Deregister a Student View a Student s Password View a Student s Registration ID Reset a Student s Password Add Authentication Codes An authentication code licenses students in your class to use the content. You need to add an authentication code before you can accept students to a class. Authentication codes provide access to a fixed number of user licenses. You can add up to three authentication codes for a class. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt supplies the authentication codes by . See the sample in the Appendix. 1. On the Class setup screen, tap Authorization Codes. 2. On the Authentication Codes screen, type the authentication code into the box. 3. Tap Add Code to add another code. 8

Accept or Decline Students When students register themselves for a class, teachers need to accept or decline each student. Students who are not accepted for a class will only have guest access to the app. The number of students awaiting acceptance for a class is displayed on the Class List screen, in the Students column. This number is shown in a green circle, after the number for the students already accepted for that class. 1. On the Class List screen, in the Class Name column, tap the name of the class. 2. On the Class setup screen, in the Options column, tap Accept or Decline for each student listed. Remove a Class 1. On the Class setup screen, tap Remove Class. 2. Confirm your choice by tapping Deactivate, or tap Cancel if you change your mind. 9

Student Login When students use the apps for the first time, they need to start the sign-in process as follows: 1. Tap Sign In. 2. When the Select a Class screen appears, tap the name of the class. If a class is not listed, this means that the class has not been registered on that device. The student should tap My class is not here. You need to give the student a PIN. When a student enters the PIN, the class information will be downloaded to the device and the Select a User screen will appear. When a student logs in, his or her name is displayed on the upper left. 3. Once a class is selected, the student taps on his or her name from a list of students on the Select a User screen. The student will then be prompted to input the password. If the student s name is not on the list, he or she should tap I can t find my name. The student will then need to submit a request to be added to the class, and will have to wait for the teacher to accept or decline this request. 4. Once a student has selected the class and profile, he or she must enter the password. If students forget their passwords, they can get them from the teacher, who can view students passwords in the class management screen. 10

Recommended Configurations Network Infrastructure Specifications and Recommendations Wi-Fi Local Area Network (LAN) Sufficient Wi-Fi coverage to allow for all areas designated for use with the ipad as stated above; wireless routers or Access Points (APs) that support Wi-Fi protocol levels a/b/g/n are required to provide the Local Area Network bandwidth for a given number of devices within range of the Wi-Fi router or AP device. Note: Wi-Fi performance is subject to other devices and or users that could be consuming Internet bandwidth from the same wireless router or AP device. Sufficient DHCP range to support the additional IP addresses for the number of ipad devices in use is required. Internet Connectivity Wide Area Network (WAN) Broadband connectivity service to the Internet High-speed DSL High-speed CABLE T1 T3, Fractional, Multi / Bonded or Better Firewall IP Protocol Requirements The following hosts, protocols, and ports will need to be accessible through any firewalls that are in place to connect to those resources: Host Port maap.hmhco.com secure.riversidepublishing.com HTTP port 80, HTTPS port 443 (SSL) HTTPS port 443 (SSL) 3G Cellular Data / Internet Connection If you have a 3G tablet, you will also be able to connect to the Internet using that mode of connectivity, but you need to consider the following: 3G connection speeds to the Internet are considerably lower than the recommended Wi-Fi Internet connection, so longer content download times can be expected. Extra monthly services fees may be charged for access to 3G cellular networks. Monthly charges for additional data consumption are possible. 35

General Recommendations HMH recommends the following best practices: Set passwords on each device, and do not allow the students to change the password from what has been assigned. Charge the device overnight to ensure that it has sufficient battery life for the entire school day. Maintain spare chargers in each classroom. Maintain a reserve of devices (10 15% percent) the Go Math! Daily and Common Core Reading Practice and Assessment apps installed to cover unforeseen issues that may arise with hardware or user error. Store devices in protective cases to help avoid some accidental hardware issues. 36
