1 The TEACH Project is an online alternative certification program designed to train students who have earned any bachelor s degree in a content area outside the field of education to become teachers. We prepare students for work in diverse school settings and we train them to effectively meet the educational needs of today s students. Through our program, students are offered a $3,000 stipend, a technology stipend, and professional development opportunities. We are currently looking for individuals who would like to earn their teaching certificate, but more importantly, we are looking for students who have a passion for teaching others. 2 Student Spotlight Mr. Rey Rodriguez, TEACH Project Cohort I San Benito CISD recently sent seven educators to the Texas State Capitol, located in Austin, Texas on Thursday, January 24, These seven educators were among more than 200 members attending the Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA), and a TEACH Project participant was priveliged with the opportunity to attend. Mr. Rey Rodriguez, TEACH Cohort I participant, was among one of the teachers selected from the local chapter to attend the TCTA Convention. During the event, participants discussed education issues such as testing and last session s budget cuts with members of the Texas Legislature and their staffs. Prior to the Capitol Visit, the educators attended a briefing where they heard from Texas State Sen. Kirk Watson, who encouraged them to be strong advocates for public education. Texas Commissioner of Education, Michael Williams, also addressed TCTA s 300-plus convention attendees, who had the opportunity to ask him questions about the state s testing and accountablility systems and other important issues they face daily in Texas public schools. Mr. Rodriguez, along with his colleagues also participated in the association s Representative Assembly, attended continuing education sessions, and had the opportunity to recognize those who have made a difference in public education during the past year. Rey completed his teaching internship last year with San Benito CISD as a Generalist 4-8 teacher while leading 8th grade basketball and football teams to a district championship. Rey has received his standard teaching certification and is currently a 7th grade teacher with San Benito CISD as well as a coach for 7th grade football, baseball, and track.

3 Partner School Districts The TEACH Project currently partners with 32 school districts ranging from Corpus Christi, TX to Harlingen, TX. These school districts have signed letters of support for our program, and keep in close contact with us about what their high need subject areas are. Our students make a committement to teach 3 years in one of our partner school districts. We want to thank all of our Partner School Districts for supporting our students and initiatives.
