Course Description This course provides an exploration of cognitive, psychological, social and physical factors influencing success in college and in life. Topics include personal responsibility, critical thinking, motivation, selfefficacy, self-awareness, lifelong learning, self-management, health and wellness, interpersonal communication in a diverse world, and educational planning. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Identify, analyze & apply strategies for creating an effective life plan that includes personal, educational & professional goals. 2. Utilize active learning & critical thinking to analyze personal qualities, skills and strategies necessary for success in college and demonstrate how to apply these to achieve academic goals. 3. Identify & analyze cognitive, psychological, social & physical factors influencing success in college & life. 4. More than three full absences will result in a failing grade or withdrawal from the course. Any student arriving more than 15 minutes late for class will be marked absent for the class. It is the student s responsibility to notify the professor if they are late for class. Note: It is the student s responsibility to withdraw from a course by the deadline. Classroom Guidelines Respect the classroom and your professor please turn off and put away all electronic devices BEFORE entering class. If you choose to answer your phone collect your things, simply step out of class with your belongings and accept your absence for the day. The professor has the right to make a student leave the classroom due to disruptions and the student will not be given credit for attendance. All homework will be collected at the beginning of class and will be considered late thereafter. Late homework assignments are not accepted. All in class assignments will be collected during class. No assignments will be accepted via unless instructor permission has been granted. You cannot make up class attendance, in class activities, quizzes or the final. Participate: Bring required materials to class, take notes, complete all assignments on time, keep up with reading assignments, participate in class discussions/activities and track your class grades. Academic Honesty El Camino College s standards of academic honesty apply. Plagiarism is the use of another s ideas/words and passing them off as your own. EXAMPLE: Albert Einstein is enrolled in an online ETUDES class and has the following User ID: albert_einstein [all lower case] *Some ECC student ID numbers have been adjusted to accommodate multiple persons with the same name. If Step 2 does not work please visit this site to verify your id: STEP 3: Enter your initial password with four characters. Your default Password for Etudes is the month and date of birth included in your ECC record. EXAMPLE: Albert Einstein s birth date is March 25 so his Etudes Password is: STEP 4: Click Login. You should now see the tabs for each of your classes on top of the page. Click a tab to go to a particular class or enter your course. REMEMBER: WRITE DOWN YOUR USER ID AND PASSWORD AND STORE IT IN A SAFE PLACE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE AND BOOKMARK THE ETUDES LOGIN PAGE TO QUICKLY ACCESS YOUR CLASS.
