25 PSLE The PSLE serves as a placement examination. All P6 pupils will take the PSLE which assesses their suitability for Secondary Education and places them in an appropriate Sec. School course: the Special / Express the Normal Course (Academic / Technical)

27 PSLE - Placement Placement into courses and posting to Sec. Schools of choice is based on the aggregate score for the subjects taken in the PSLE The reporting of the results to pupils are made in terms of grades for each subject & their aggregate score. Their eligibility for the various courses will be given in the result slip.

34 JOY OF LEARNING- SBB WHY SUBJECT-BASED BANDING? To provide more flexibility to pupils with strengths and abilities that vary across subjects To encourage greater interaction among pupils with different strengths and abilities
35 JOY OF LEARNING- SBB WHAT SUBJECT-BASED BANDING MEANS FOR YOUR CHILD? Every child will be encouraged to develop his strong subject(s) Removal of streams at P5 and P6 Subjects taken at various levels according to the child s ability. Different subject combinations. Eg. 4S, 3S1F(MT), 4F
36 JOY OF LEARNING- SBB SUBJECT BASED BANDING Pupil sits for school-based examinations Based on pupil s results, school recommends a subject combination. Parents fill up option form indicating their preferred combination. Pupil takes subject combination chosen by parents English, Math, Science and Mother Tongue are available at standard and foundation levels. Mother Tongue is also available at the higher level.

50 JOY OF LEARNING- SBB QUESTION & ANSWER SWITCHING TO A LESS DEMANDING SUBJECT COMBINATION (NO PARENTAL OPTION) A pupil who has considerable difficulties coping with subjects at the standard level in P5 will switch to 1 or more subject (s) to the foundation level at P6 (Example: Option 2 to Option 3, Option 2 to Option 5)

56 NURTURING THE SINGAPORE SPIRIT Learning for Life Programme- Student Voice KCS SVA@KCS - School Improvement School wide programmes are put in place through the year to empower students with a voice to step forward to become active agents of change and practise advocacy and active citizenry in their immediate community SVA@KCS - Community Service Using the Visible Thinking routines (Harvard Ground Zero Project) as the thinking framework to facilitate the thinking processes, teachers used these as questioning in class so that students could plan for and implement the community service VIA project through a grounds up approach.

84 P4 NAPFA TEST IN APRIL P4 students are doing for the first time It is a test on strength, endurance, speed, agility, power and flexibility PE lessons are not sufficient to perform well in NAPFA Test. Seek the assistance of parents/wards to get the child/ward to try out the drills at least 3x a week Accompany the child/ward to train at the stadium for the 1.6km run.
85 P4 NAPFA TEST Only open to medically fit students Severely overweight students have to be certified fit in order to participate in NAPFA Test If they are not certified, they cannot participate in the Test. We encourage parents to visit the School Health HPB upon receiving the appointment letter.

95 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP SCHOOL POLICIES Homework: (6 hours/week) Attendance: Students are expected to produce an MC or a parent s letter if they are absent from school. Parents are encouraged to inform the Form Teacher of your child s absence, especially so if your child has contracted infectious diseases such as HFMD, chicken pox. Late Coming: Pre-assembly programmes start at 7.15 am. All students must be in school by 7.30 am for the morning assembly. Failing which, students will be considered as late for the day.
96 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP DAILY ATTENDANCE IN SCHOOL An SMS will be sent to the students guardians at 9.30am if the student s attendance is marked as absent without valid reason. The SMS will look like this: [KCS] Dear Parent/Guardian, your child/ward is not in school at 09:30. Please contact the General Office at for clarifications. Thank you.
97 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS EXAMINATION POLICY For P4 bite-size tests: 1.Teachers will administer the test when students return. 2.The last day of the retest is the 3 rd working day from the originally scheduled test date. 3.For oral presentations or show and tell, teachers will administer the test when student returns. The last day of retest is 3 days after the last student in the class has been tested.
98 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS EXAMINATION POLICY Any absence from examinations must be covered by a medical certificate from a private or government clinic. Students are required to submit their medical certificate(s) to their form teachers on the day they return to school. Students who are absent without a medical certificate/valid reason will not be awarded any marks. [MC from TCM clinics is not accepted]
99 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS EXAMINATION POLICY Students who are late for 30 minutes or less are allowed to sit for the full duration of the paper. Students who are late for more than 30 minutes will not be given extra time and they will sit for the remaining duration of the paper.
100 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS EXAMINATION POLICY Students can request to sit for the papers for independent practice when they are well and back in school.
