1 The Cordially invites your students to participate in our "Drop Savers" Water Conservation Poster Contest In celebration of nationally proclaimed Water Conservation Month in April and "Drinking Water Week May 6-12th, the is sponsoring a water conservation poster contest with all of the local students. We feel that our best opportunity to conserve water is through a long-range education and awareness program, and what better way than to begin with our young people. The contest encourages young students to consider the importance of water conservation by creating a poster depicting a water conservation idea (in slogan form, drawing form, or both). The contest allows students to promote water awareness and the importance of water conservation in their daily routines. All posters will be judged by the Water Drop Savers Committee, who will select one winner from each division. All participating students will receive a memento and prizes will be given for 1 st and 2 nd places in each division. The first place winners in each division will have their art work displayed on a city vehicle, and the teacher/parent (if home schooled) of the 1 st place winning poster will receive art supplies for the classroom. Additionally the winner s artwork from each Division will be sent to the state competition where they will represent the and have an opportunity for additional prizes and recognition. Won't you please participate in this worthy and educational event? Please read the attached contest rules, and be sure to note the deadline for returning your school posters to us. We're sure all the area children will enjoy creating water-saving ideas! Sincerely, Conservation Coordinator th Street, St. Cloud, FL Phone Fax
2 Every year the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA) works with local water utilities to sponsor the Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest. The contest allows students to promote water awareness and the importance of water conservation in their daily routines. 1. Each school/parent must submit all entries to St. Cloud Public Services Department ( th St, St. Cloud FL 34769) by Friday, March 9, Arrangements can be made for posters to be picked up from participating schools. 2. Grade divisions for the contest are as follows: Division One: Kindergarten First grade Division Two: Second Third grades Division Three: Fourth Fifth grades Division Four: Sixth Eighth grades Division Five: Ninth Twelfth grades 8 ½ x 11 white drawing paper to make the poster. Use a portrait or landscape format. Crayons, color pencils, paint, or markers. No highlighters, photos, or computer graphics. Make sure it all fits on the 8 ½ x 11 white drawing paper and have the letters and message large enough to be read easily. Entry form must be completely filled out and taped to the back of each poster. IMGAINATION! A panel of judges will rate posters based on: Message Creativity Originality All participating students will receive a memento and prizes will be awarded to the 1 st and 2 nd place student in each division. Additionally, the Division winners will be notified and forwarded to the state level competition to represent St. Cloud. POSTER IDEAS Create a WATER SUPER HERO and deliver his or her message.
