1 JOB DESCRIPTION POST: GRADE: RESPONSIBLE TO: FE Lecturer English LEC01/02 18,501-32,040 per annum Head of Study Main Purpose of Post: To deliver successful learning outcomes for learners To undertake a teaching commitment on courses as assigned. To support learners and contribute to the management and development of course provision. Key Tasks: Plan, prepare and deliver dynamic teaching, learning and assessment sessions that engage and motivate learners using a range of appropriate teaching and learning methods and resources, recorded on Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans. Ensure that teaching, learning and assessment sessions are always Good or Outstanding Have a full awareness of, and deliver curriculum and validating body requirements for Functional Skills and GCSE English Research and develop new topics, courses and teaching materials, including online resources as agreed by the Head of Study, to enhance learning sessions and personal subject knowledge Maintain full Pro-monitor records to track and monitor learners progress towards individual learning aims Differentiate between learners so that they can be active in their own learning, and maximise individual achievement. Design and use a range of formative assessment and feedback strategies to support learning and progression.

2 Maintain and monitor course data on punctuality, attendance, retention and achievement in order to improve course performance, and work actively to improve classroom attendance and retention Maintain class registers in accordance with the Student Attendance, Punctuality and Register Marking policy and contact learners absent from class, recording all interventions on ProMonitor Maintain an inclusive, equitable and motivational learning environment. Use Learning Technology appropriately to deliver teaching and learning, including learning outside of the classroom e.g. Interactive Whiteboards, Moodle for online assignments etc. Prepare all relevant materials for lessons and for use on Skoodle (VLE) Carry out internal verification processes as appropriate Liaise with Progress Mentors to provide additional support for learners as necessary Communicate effectively and appropriately with learners to enhance learning. Manage learner behaviour in accordance with the College Student Disciplinary Policy in the classroom and in the rest of the College Administration and Operational Duties: Participate in all Quality Assurance processes and activities, including but not limited to: team meetings, Internal and External verification processes, Department Self-Assessment Review and planning for Quality Improvement Participate in learner marketing, application and enrolment processes, Open Evenings and other promotional activities during or outside the normal working day, either at the College or at other places subject to reasonable requests by the College.. Continued Professional Development: Participation in the College Cross College Development Days. Commit to ongoing CPD activities in order to develop own teaching skills, and fully engage with all Review / Observation activities and actions

3 Working as a Team: To work with all members of staff to ensure an efficient, supportive and welcoming service to learners at all times, acting when necessary as a first point of contact for the public, visitors and other members of staff. To ensure that an efficient service is offered to students and potential students at all times To provide a high quality services for both internal and external users of the service To work collaboratively with staff across the college To maintain and develop contacts with employers and other agencies, as appropriate Build strong team relationships through collaboration and consultation. Contribute to the creation of a supportive climate of co-operation. Value team members contributions and share own knowledge and information to help others work more effectively. Understand team goals and understand and acknowledge your role as part of a team. Willingly offer help and support to colleagues. Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults: It is the responsibility of the post holder to commit to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults within the College. The post holder will undertake their duties in full accordance with the College s policies and procedures relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, e.g. dealing with learner issues such as Safeguarding concerns, and referring on to specialist staff. This position is subject to an enhanced criminal records check from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) and will be subject to satisfactory clearance of this check.

6 Experience of teaching learners in the FE sector Experience of liaison with employers, parents, other external agencies and a wide variety of college staff Experience of teaching or training young adults. A proven record of assisting students to achieve their intended goal Experience of successfully managing learner behaviour within the classroom through a professional approach Experience of feeding back to learners to improve their attainment levels Experience of using ILT in teaching, learning and assessment delivery Skills and Competencies The ability to deliver a high standard of teaching, learning and assessment opportunities for a diverse range of learners The ability to provide specific individual learner feedback so that the learner knows how to improve their performance The ability to demonstrate and explain practical vocational skills and procedures The ability to improve learners English and mathematics up to Level 2 standard The ability to use management information systems to track learner progress Ability to develop good working relationships with managers and staff Ability to organise and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines Ability to innovate processes to meet changing requirements To have an awareness of Health & Safety issues.
