1 Ancient Egypt /Website Project TIMETABLE Below you will find a calendar of January and February. This project must be worked on at home and during school in order to complete it by February 3 rd. Use the calendar below to map out when you will RESEARCH, COLLECT, and CREATE your website. Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Proposal due! 2 Three parts to this project Major goals: Learn to do quality research and to create a quality technology project to share information learned. You will research 1 big question on Ancient Egypt. This question might be broken down into a few more specific questions to create a thorough and detailed project. You will research using books, magazines, online journals, and websites. As you research, you will collect information always keeping in mind what you will need to teach others on your website. Collection As you research, you will collect information that you learn and put it into your own words. You will be required to hand in the research that you collect twice during this project. As you collect your information, you will be required to record where you found your research. You will create a running list of sources that will later become your bibliography. As you collect information, you will keep in mind that you will be gathering information to put onto your website. This not only means text but also photographs, videos, blog questions, polls, etc. Technology Presentation Weebly-Podcast-Glogster You will be asked to create a technology proposal to submit to your teacher. This proposal will explain what your website/podcast will look like. Your proposal will need to be very thorough including all text information, pages, links, photographs, videos, blog questions, polls, etc.

3 Ancient Egypt & Website Project 1. What are some things you need to be aware of before you choose a topic? *Is there enough information about my topic? *Will I still be interested in the topic after 3-5 weeks? *Can I finish collecting information and create a website about it by the due date? 2. Ask yourself questions about your topic. *Questions help provide a focus for reading and searching information. *The questions you ask should also tell what you want to find out about your topic. *Use the five W s (who, what, when, where, why) when asking questions and to find good startng points for your research. *Create six questions and put them on your RESEARCH PROPOSAL sheet. 3. Gather Resources *You are required to use at least 5 different sources to gather information. (2 resources must be from nonfiction books.) *You may find that you have to change your topic at this point because there might not be enough resources available on your chosen topic. (Or change your questions.)

4 *Once you have found your resources, record the titles, authors, website address, etc. for your bibliography later on. *Share your resources with your research partners and other students. 4. Collecting Information *As you read from your resources, keep your 6 questions in front of you to remind yourself to watch for answers to your questions as you read. *You will record information on post-its or inside your research journal. Some of you may find it useful to use a collecting information form that has boxes set up for you already to organize your information. *All information that you collect MUST be in your own words. We will have mini lessons about how to do this. *You will hand in your information (or have it checked by a teacher) on January 20 & Organizing Information *After collecting your information and recording it in your journals, folders or organizer, you will need to think about how you will organize it. *Organize your information for each research question. *Create a TECHNOLOGY plan. How will you present this information to your audience/readers? Think about websites or Glogs. *Use the Technology plan to think about the following: -How many pages will be on your website? One for each research question? -What type of media will you have? Photographs, diagrams, videos, access to other links? -Will you have an interactive piece for readers? Blogs, polls, questionnaires, etc.? -What will your layout look like? (You ll have to browse Weebly or Glogster for formats) -You might want to research various websites and think about how yours will stand out. Do you want to create a scavenger hunt/web quest page? Pose a question that your reader has to answer. Have your reader jump around and find an end result to your question.

5 -You might want to create videos to put on your website. (Similar to podcasts) *You can create little videos about each of your topics/questions. *You can put music to them or record your voice over them. *You can create a picture book using all of your information and display it as a video. 6. Create your website. *After your technology plan is approved. You are ready to make your website. This seems quick and easy but actually takes a lot of time and effort. This part of your project will be worked on during school AND home. (Follow the calendar plan you made to stay on task.) 7. Use the rubric to make sure you are on track. *Use the website rubric to make sure you have everything for your due date. Do not get off track; there are no exceptions for due dates. *Evaluate where you are on the rubric: Make sure you are shooting for the highest value! *Don t forget to have a bibliography of your resources. This will need to be handed in. 8. Present your project during our celebration & reflect on the process. *We will have a celebration with our Dell Mini s set up in both classrooms to show off our research and outstanding websites. *After presenting, you will reflect on your hard work and the research/design process.

What were the responsibilities of a pharaoh and other members of the hierarchy? *Who did Egypt trade with? How did it become one of the wealthiest empires of the world? *What was Ancient Egyptian food made of? How was it prepared? What does the food have to do with the environment? *What was fashion like in Ancient Egypt? What were their clothes like? How were they made? How and by whom was it worn? *How did Ancient Egyptians feel about each animal? How were they used and hunted? *What did each God and Goddess represent? What were some of the myths about them? How did Ancient Egyptians worship them? *How were scribes trained to do their craft? Clothing, makeup, hairstyles Trade in Egypt Children in Egypt- education and toys/games Ancient Egyptian building materials & furniture Medicine, Science & Math practices Technology: Sun Clock, instruments *Why were pyramids built? Who built them? What mysteries continue to linger about the pyramids? *What rights and responsibilities did women have? How were their roles similar or different from men?

7 Name Date Ancient Egypt & Website Project Your task is to learn about a specific aspect of the unique Egyptian civilization through your own research. To begin, you will thoroughly research your specific topic using the internet and books from the library, recording the sources of the information that you use. After collecting and organizing your information, you will create a website about your specific topic.
