1 End of KS2 SATs Aims: *Find out about how the children are assessed *Know the standard of expectations in each subject area *The changes to this years testing and reporting of results *How to best support and prepare your child 1

2 How are they assessed? Teacher Assessment Tests *may be subject to change Ongoing day-to-day gathering of data on the children's performance ability in class. This data is reported as well as the results from the test and is the level the school report that the child is working at. The framework used to assess this is different to the tests. Week beginning 9th May Monday - Reading Test Tuesday - Grammar Punctuation and Spelling Paper 1 - short answer questions Paper 2 - spelling Wednesday - Maths Paper 1 - Arithmetic Paper 2 - Reasoning Thursday - Maths Paper 3 - Reasoning 2

3 During SATs Week *Please ensure your child is in school EVERY DAY of SATs week! *They need to be in school on time *We will be offering Breakfast club from 8:10am where your child will have breakfast with other members of the class *Please do not book anything during this week, e.g. holidays or doctor's appointments. *If your child is ill please notify us immediately 3

4 The Tests The Scores raw score scaled score confirmation of whether or not they have met the expected standard marks awarded in the tests. 100 being the standard based on their performance on the test 4

5 The Tests Reading: *Test consists of a reading booklet and separate answer booklet *Pupils will have 3 texts to read and answer questions in 1 hour. *Children will read at their own pace *There will be a mixture of genres of text - the least demanding first and the following texts increase in difficulty. *They can attempt the test as they choose - read a text then answer. *Paper is worth 50 marks. 5

6 The Tests Maths: *Paper 1 - Arithmetic based - 30 mins to complete 36 questions.(40 marks) *Paper 2 and 3 - Reasoning based - 40 mins each (35 marks per paper) 6

7 The Tests Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling: *Paper 1 - assesses knowledge of grammatical terms and understanding of the placing of punctuation - 45 minutes to complete the test. (50 marks) *Paper 2 - spelling test consists of an answers booklet for the children to complete - approximately 15 minutes but it is not strictly timed. 20 words assessed in the context of sentences. (20 marks) 7
