1 GS201 Success and Career Management Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Design an effective resume utilizing the proper format and following resume rules; 2. Create and effective cover letter by expressing interest in the position, exhibiting selling skills and qualifications; 3. Compose a thank you letter; 4. Summarize his or her experience, education, and skills during an interview process with effective use of grammar, proper etiquette, and visual appearance; 5. Compile a professional career portfolio; 6. Demonstrate an understanding of the skills needed to succeed on the job and get promoted. Lesson 1 Objective: 1 Course Introductions Instructor Announcements/Overview Section 11: Effective Communication & Networking Discussion 1: Voice Inflection The purpose of this discussion is to identify the importance of voice inflection. Step 1: Watch this video on voice reflection. Step 2: After you have watched the video, say the following statement aloud in a monotone voice: "I didn't say she liked him" Step 3: Now read the same statement six more times aloud, each time placing emphasis on a different word in the sentence. Do you see how the meaning of the statement changes depending upon where you place your emphasis? Step 4: Compose a thoughtful summary response to the following points as your main discussion post. On the discussion board, write one important statement about yourself. Highlight each word in your statement and explain how the meaning changes depending upon which word you emphasize. Step 1: You will now take a personality test online that takes approximately 15 Take the personality test by clicking here. Step 2: Compose a thoughtful summary response to the following points as your main discussion post. Step 3: Once you have finished the test, share the results of your test in your post. You can do this by taking a screenshot of your results or by simply summarizing them. Step 4: Next, you will write 1-2 paragraphs about your personality test results. Include the following: Discuss why you believe the results accurately or inaccurately describe your personality. Explain if you learned something new about yourself based on the results. Consider what these results could reveal to a prospective employer about you. Identify one area that you would like to improve upon. List the steps you will take to make these improvements.
