Barbao Room: Belle Vernon Area High School, Room 307 Contact: Phone: ; ext Website: Required Text: Así Se Dice 2, Así Se Dice 2 work book Additional Resources: Don Quijote handouts and materials Course Description: The students increase their communicative competency and proficiency through presentation of every day, situational dialogues through advanced and grammar in context. Listening activities and videos supplement the course. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO SPEAK SPANISH EVERYDAY. The goal of the course is 70% Spanish usage in class. Course Objectives: By the end of this course, the successful student will be able to: 1. demonstrate the ability to listen effectively to complete tasks in the target language. 2. express ideas clearly through spoken communication and writing. 3. identify, describe and utilize in a variety of fields. 4. share ideas and ask questions in spoken communication and writing by utilizing a variety of verb s. 5. apply previous knowledge to new concepts and grammatical structures.

2 Academic Honesty: Any work submitted by the student shall be his/her own. Work taken from others shall be deemed as unacceptable. Any doubts will initiate the completion of an alternative assignment or a zero on the required effort, depending on the severity of the infraction. *Students are to rely on their own knowledge of the language and are not to use translation aps or online services to complete assignments. Class Policies and Expectations: 1. Students must arrive to class on time. 2. Students are required to bring their textbook, notebook, agenda book and a writing utensil to class. 3. Students must respect their fellow students and the teacher at all times. Speaking out, disrupting class and harassing other students will not be tolerated. 4. Students are expected to use the restroom before entering the classroom. 5. Students are not permitted to use cell phones or other electronic devices during class. 6. Students must complete all missed assignments as soon as possible. It is the students responsibility to speak with the teacher concerning this matter. After two weeks, students will receive a 0. (See student handbook.) Tests/quizzes are to be made up before or after school. Disabilities: If you have a disability that requires special accommodations, you need to notify the teacher no later than the 2 nd week of class. Course Grading Criteria: All quizzes, tests, and projects will be graded according to the Belle Vernon Area School District grading policy. Total points will be accumulated for all evaluated efforts in this class rather than having letter grades per each effort. The grading scale is as follows: A B C D F Emphasis will be on formal assessments. Therefore, grades will be weighted. Formal assessments will account for 90% of a student s grade. (tests, projects, presentations etc.) Informal assessments will account for 10% of a student s grades. (homework completion checks, in-class comprehension checks)

3 Assignments per Quarter (in addition to homework, tests and quizzes) First Quarter- individual and group review assignments Second Quarter- then and now imperfect/present project, group acrostic verb review assignment, partner computer writing assignment Third Quarter- hotel skit, post card review assignment, city map group project, partner country writing assignment, A Day with Someone Famous conditional writing project Fourth Quarter- Past /Car partner writing assignment, Car diorama project, Giving Directions assignment/skit, command chart, verb review conjugation chart *Assignments are subject to change. New assignments may be added. TOTAL POINTS = 600 Points (approximate) *Assignments or assessments may vary due to pace of class and individualized instruction. Academic Standards: Students will be reacquainted with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards that have been adopted by the Department of Education, along with the Common Core Standards that are in the process of being implemented nationwide.
