19 WASC Basic Status Ballot WASC accreditation is an ongoing six-year cycle of quality whereby the school demonstrates the capacity, commitment and competence to support high-quality student learning and ongoing school improvement. The Visiting Committee's CONFIDENTIAL recommendation to the Accrediting Commission: Six-Year Accreditation Status with a Required Mid-cycle Progress Report: There is compelling evidence that the school needs little, if any, additional support for high-quality student learning and the implementation, monitoring, and accomplishment of the schoolwide action plan, including the identified critical areas for follow-up.* Six-Year Accreditation Status with a Required Mid-cycle Progress Report and One-Day Visit: There is compelling evidence that the school needs additional support, feedback, and encouragement in strengthening student achievement and the school s program through the schoolwide action plan that includes the identified critical areas for follow-up.* Six-Year Accreditation Status with a Required Mid-cycle Progress Report and Two-Day Visit: There is compelling evidence that the school needs additional support and a longer mid-cycle visit is needed to review the school s action plan progress in areas such as the analysis and use of student achievement data, the instructional program, the growth and development of the leadership and staff, governance, and resource allocation.* One-Year Probationary Accreditation Status with a Required In-depth Progress Report and Two-Day Visit: The school deviates significantly in one or more areas and needs serious additional support, feedback, and encouragement in meeting the identified critical areas for follow-up in the visiting committee report. Accreditation Status Withheld: The school does not meet the WASC criteria/indicators and other accreditation factors and deviates significantly in several areas that impacts student learning and well-being, the school s program, and supporting operations.* * See Accreditation Status Explanation. Note: The Commission reserves the right to grant accreditation status other than those above, including a recommendation for a full self-study at any time. Such action will follow a Commission review of the Visiting Committee Report. In the event of a formal appeal, this document will be provided to the school s chief administrator. 19

33 Previsit Work with Visiting Committee Members Remind all members to read the entire report Use Google.docs template or send electronically a copy of previsit preparation worksheet and ask members for questions/comments on ALL sections set deadline for return Use their comments as you write Chapters I, II, and III and begin Chapter V. 33
34 Previsit Work with Visiting Committee Members Assign specific sections for narrative writing 2 people per section unless a very small team (2 3 people) and at same time portions of the documentation/justification statement Use Google.docs or send VC Report template and set deadline for narrative assignments for Chapter IV on criteria Include your drafts of Chapters I, II, and III 34
35 Previsit Work with Visiting Committee Members Maintain communication with VC members Create a list of questions/comments by cutting and pasting questions sent by members in previsit preparation worksheets. Send with draft of report (Consider using a Google Docs setup for writing the draft.) Send draft to all VC members and possibly the school principal or the list of questions 35
36 The Visit Musts Facilitate, delegate, affirm Plan agenda and conduct 2 3 hour VC meeting on Sunday for members Perceptions Chart Prepare specific questions collaboratively for Leadership Team, parent meeting and other Sunday meetings Review any logistical changes 36
37 The Visit Musts Keep in mind must synthesize findings based on WASC criteria and indicators Always related questions and findings to draft schoolwide action plan within all meetings The roadmap Work with school on plan 37
38 The Visit Musts Guide the team as all plan and write questions to focus on impact on high-quality student learning and meeting the WASC criteria Help them plan group techniques for their meetings Ensure team consensus on questions for each meeting Ensure appropriate evidence/information reviewed triangulation of data Set up VC synthesis time at end of day before writing and a quick debrief mid-day 38
39 The Visit Musts Meet daily with Leadership Team (all VC members) Meet daily with the principal or head as chair Complete one-half of report by end of first full day Delegate different tasks to VC members, e.g., quick editing or word processing while using LCD projector Ensure student achievement data from self-study included in Chapter I, Student/Community Profile with analytical comments Double check all sections of report included, e.g., schoolwide strengths and critical areas for follow-up 39
