9 COLLECTIVE COMMITMENTS The SASD Board of Education will always keep the District mission/vision of making students our #1 priority. Our efforts will focus on accomplishing that goal. We achieve the mission/vision best by supporting each other (Board, Administration, Staff, Parents, and Community), and by empowering everyone to do their best and reach their full potential. In doing so, we enable our students to also reach their full potential. To Achieve the Board of Education s full potential each member will commit to: Respect Respecting differences of opinions - Work to compromise, work together as a unit - Be open minded - Respect confidentiality and be trustworthy and professional Respect individual contributions and experiences brought to the BOE Listening and Active Participation Listen to all ideas and perspectives before making a decision Encouragement of dialog and input from all Board members Engagement with all stakeholders (community, administration, staff, parents, students) to encourage mutual collaboration and education Commitment to the District Listen to all Stakeholders (individuals, advocacy or interest groups) but commit to making decision on the best interest of the District Strive for consensus in a timely manner and respect the final decision of the BOE Be prepared and educate yourself - Ask questions to other Board members, administrator, attend conferences (if possible) Process or procedural items Encouraging all stakeholders to follow appropriate chain of command How committee assignments are made How items are placed on the agenda The role and relationship of the Board and Administration

11 Viroqua Area Schools Board Goal and Action Plan Viroqua Area Schools Mission Statement The Viroqua Area School District provides a quality education for all students that inspires continuous learning, positive relationships, curiosity and compassion in an environment that welcomes diversity while developing respectful and responsible citizens. The Vision for the Viroqua Area School District is To foster students love for learning, where educators inspire and where family and community are engaged. Board of Education District Goal To implement the VAS Continuous Improvement Process for data informed decision making. Priorities for Accountability through progress monitoring reports for student achievement Actions Transparency for all stakeholders Accountability through progress monitoring reports for operational efficiency Governance through the implementation of the Board Planning Calendar The Board will adopt and implement the Continuous Improvement Process as a dynamic, data driven decision making process. The Board will follow the Planning Calendar and share publically as an evolving guiding document. The Administration will prepare Progress Monitoring Reports in accordance with the Board Calendar. The Board and Administration will work collaboratively to establish annual District Goals. Board Policy shall be established by defining the broadest values before progressing to more narrow ones. The Board delegates to the Superintendent the responsibility to operate the District within the boundaries of the District mission and Board policy.
