1 Level 3 Award in Facilitating Learning and Development Unit 1 Unit 8 or Unit 9 Understand the principles and practices of learning and Facilitate learning and in groups Facilitate learning and for individuals Level 3 Credits A minimum of 12 credits must be achieved. To achieve the qualification You must achieve the learning outcomes and assessment requirements in Unit 1 (6 credits) and either Unit 8 (6 credits) or Unit 9 (6 credits). Who is it for? Those people involved in the delivery of learning and activities and programmes (in-house trainers and training managers, instructors, external trainers, managers and consultants, assessors, verifiers). Those people who have a learning and function as part of their job role (workplace managers and supervisors, experienced staff with responsibility for developing colleagues with less experience, skills and knowledge, coaches, mentors assessors, verifiers). How is it delivered and assessed? Unit 1 is knowledge based and can be delivered and assessed in a style to suit you. It can be undertaken separately, or combined with the competence-based unit. Units 8 and 9 are competence-based and assessed in the work environment, in conditions resembling the workplace or as part of a training programme (you need to select only one of these units). If required, we can deliver workshops to further develop knowledge and understanding. Assessment methods will be agreed with you at the outset. These qualifications are internally assessed and quality assured by Catalyst QA staff, and externally quality assured by Edexcel. 2 Level 3 Award in Facilitating Learning and Development What are the entry requirements? You need to be aged 18 or over. There are no formal entry requirements but you must be able to work to a Level 3 standard. Units 8 & 9 require performance evidence of you working with real learners/staff members in an organisational context. Please let us know if you have already achieved any of the units in this qualification. How long will it take? Until the relevant learning outcomes and assessment criteria have been achieved - typically 2 to 4 months. Timescales will be agreed at the outset. How will I be supported? Your assessor is available to support you in person, by phone, and by . How much does it cost? This course is designed to suit you so contact us to tell us exactly what you need. 3 Unit 1 - Understanding the Principles and Practices of Learning and Development 1 Understand the purpose and context of learning and Analyse the objectives of learning and for learners and for organisations Explain the contexts and environments in which learning and takes place. 2 Understand the learning and cycle Explain the learning and cycle and each of its constituent parts Explain how the learning and cycle is used to enhance learner experience. 3 Understand the needs of learners in relation to learning and 3.3 Summarise why it is necessary to understand learner needs and motivations for learning and Explain how to adapt learning and meets the needs and preferences of learners Outline the factors that can lead to the improvement and maintenance of learner engagement and motivation. 4 Understand the roles and responsibilities of learning and practitioner Explain own role and responsibilities in relation to learning and Explain the points of referral available to help meet the needs of learners Explain the practitioner role in the of learners in the learning and process. 5 Understand legislative and organisational requirements in relation to learning and Explain learners rights in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion Explain the practitioner s and the organisation s responsibility for the safety and security of learners Summarise the purpose and limits of confidentiality in relation to learners and the organisation Explain requirements for record keeping in relation to learning and 3

Unit 8 - Facilitate Learning and Development in Groups (6 credits) 1 Understand principles and practices of learning and in groups Explain purposes of group learning and Explain why delivery of learning and must reflect group dynamics Evaluate methods for facilitating learning and to meet the needs of groups Explain how to manage risks and safeguard individuals when facilitating learning and in groups Explain how to overcome barriers to learning in groups Explain how to monitor individual learner progress within group learning and activities Explain how to adapt delivery based on feedback from learners in groups. 2 Be able to facilitate learning and in groups 2.3 Clarify facilitation methods with group members to meet group and individual learning objectives Implement learning and activities to meet learning objectives Manage risks to group and individual learning and. 3 Be able to assist groups to apply new knowledge and skills in practical contexts Develop opportunities for individuals to apply new knowledge and skills in practical contexts Provide group feedback to improve the application of learning. 4 Be able to assist learners to reflect on their learning and undertaken in groups Support self-evaluation by learners Review individual responses to learning and in groups Assist learners to identify their future learning and needs. 4

Unit 9 - Facilitate Learning and Development for Individuals (6 credits) 1 Understand principles and practices of one-to-one learning and Explain purposes of one-to-one learning and Explain factors to be considered when facilitating learning and to meet individual needs Evaluate methods for facilitating learning and to meet the needs of individuals Explain how to manage risks and safeguard individuals when facilitating one-to-one learning and Explain how to overcome individual barriers to learning Explain how to monitor individual learner progress Explain how to adapt delivery to meet individual learner needs. 2 Be able to facilitate one-to-one learning and 2.3 Clarify facilitation methods with individuals to meet their learning and/or objectives Implement activities to meet learning and/or objectives Manage risks and safeguard learners participating in one-to-one learning and/or. 3 Be able to assist individual learners in applying new knowledge and skills in practical contexts Develop opportunities for individuals to apply new knowledge and skills in practical context Explain benefits to individuals of applying new knowledge and skills. 4 Be able to assist individual learners in reflecting on their learning and/or Explain benefits of self-evaluation to individuals Review individual responses to one-to-one learning and/or Assist individual learners to identify their future learning and/or needs. 5
